rayyan
i bought my new baby home yesterday, his name is milo and he is 11 weeks old. he has been so cheeky running round the floor and foraging between the spfa cushons. he isnt making too much noise tho. what should he be dooing at this age, i know he is very young but in everyons experiance what generally do they do at 11 weeks? he likes carrots! http://s591.photobucket.com/albums/ss358/milo2009_01/
Tycos_mom
Are you hand feeding him or is he weaned? at this age he should just be learning how to fly holding onto things and flapping like crazy getting those musule built up and feeling the lift under his wings. Does he fly at all yet I hope he's not clipped yet because its bad if they get clipped before they learn to fly and land properly. I like his name he's very cute. He should also be starting to climb and play with his toys they are very clumsy at this age so if he's in a very large cage you should pad the bottom with some thick towel or a blanket and put the news paper on top of it. Also put his perches and food down low as well. You don't want him to fall and slit his keel bone open or worse. Enjoy him and give him a cuddle and a scritch for me I just love the baby's they are just so darn sweet.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/07/07 02:

casper
Cogratulations on your new baby! Pat has given great advice on what do you with your baby. I did all those things with my babies as they were about the same age as yours when I brought them home. In time you can gradually raise the perches as they get more confident and sturdy. Try and have as much contact with your baby thats its comfortable with, its great to socialise your baby from an early age. Enjoy these early days wont you? They grow up so quickly! Check out the threads in the Nursery room, some of them you should find really useful. Keep us posted with regular updates and dont forget those all important pictures will you? rayyan
yes it was great advise, i have put a blanket and 2 small cushions under the newspaper. he is very loving last night he fell asleep on my shoulder all curled up like a little chicken, hes been playing thismorning with a rattle ball pouncing on it! he loves kisses, i find the noises he makes difficult to understand what he wants, also he keeps licking my arms why is this? thanks

Eckobird
Congrats on your new baby, Milo is soo adorable. I especially loved that sleepy picture of him. You should post it in the sleepy parrot pics thread, the link is at the bottom. Is he eating his fresh fruits and veggies good? Have you tried giving him oatmeal at night to see if he likes that? He is still adjusting to your home thats why he isn't making that much noise. Pretty soon you should hear him practicing his voice though, lol. Good luck with your new baby, he is so cute. http://www.greyforums.net/component/option,com_joomlaboard/Itemid,27/func,view/catid,17/id,139795/ -

Post edited by: caitb2007, at: 2009/07/07 16:
rayyan
yes he likes fruit and veggies i have been giving him daily, is it ok to give him cooked pasta or rice? he has got a bit more vocal since i first bought him home. i read on here that some people gave oatmeal, how do i make it for him with milk or water and should it be any particular kind of oatmeal? and he flew for the first time today! also he has a ball which he jumps and pounces on and spreads his wings wide screeching at it, he also does the same to balled up tissue and crumbs i think hes playing because hes not hackles up groweling but just to make sure can u tell me what u all think? is he scared? annoyed? or playing? Eckobird
Yes it is ok to give him cooked rice and pasta. I would give him brown rice though, its better for them. You should mix the oatmeal with water, and if you have some palm oil put a couple drops in it so he likes it better or peanut butter. The plain oatmeal or the fruity flavors is good, try to avoid the ones with sugars in it. It sounds to me that he is palying with the ball, lol sometimes they get play rough and get mad at their toys but no need to worry. Ecko growls at his bells all the time and I think it is hilarious to watch lol. Good luck with your new baby.
