Partner316 Posted July 1, 2009 Share Posted July 1, 2009 A local pet store in a town about an hour away, it specializes more in birds than anything else, and they breed every bird they sell. They also have quite the extensive line. 12 different types in all. Macaws -Blue and Golds -Green Wings -Harlequins -Hyacinths (in the near future, they are currently looking for a male to breed with the female they already have) -Severes Amazons -Blue Front -Double Yellow Headed -Mexican Red Headed -Yellow Naped African Greys -Congo -Timneh And they also breed Eclectus' I also held and played with one of the really young DYH Amazons, it was gorgeous, and he was such a sweetheart, I almost bought him there on the spot. Luckily my cousin told me no and dragged me out lol. They also had 2 baby congos, 2 congos that were less than a year old, 2 Severe Macaws and 2 DYH Amazons that were also only a few months old. The Severe's were a bit nippy and jealous that I was holding the amazon lol. All in all it was a good trip to the pet store. -Nick- Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Tycos_mom Posted July 1, 2009 Share Posted July 1, 2009 I Love my Severe Macaw he is the most animated funny bird I was putting him to bed tonight and he was a bit excited and beaked my shoulder a little bit to hard it hurt a little so I said no bite put him on his sleep cage and turned my back and walked away. . Then I hear where you going why you not talk I love you kiss kiss. I Was having a very hard time keeping a straight face he was so cute. So I went back in and said no bite mommy and he said in a real puzzled voice no bite you as if to say I didn't bite you what are you talking about. He has a huge vocabulary and he makes me laugh so hard some time. Severe Macaws are just the best.:laugh: {Love-0002012D}

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/07/01 07:38 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Partner316 Posted July 1, 2009 Author Share Posted July 1, 2009 That is really great to hear! How much more does it take to take care of the Severe's compared to our grey's or other macaws? They are having a sale on the Severe's right now, they are going for $500. Which I just thought was a streal. I was laughing so hard at one of the ones they had there just because the way it was moving around and dancing. The baby ones were so cute I had to leave before I did come home with another one. lol Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
judygram Posted July 1, 2009 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Its a good thing there is not a pet store like that near me or I would have more, we have pet stores but none of them specializes in birds but it is fun to be able to go and play with them. Tycos_mom Posted July 2, 2009 Share Posted July 2, 2009 They aren't anymore work they do like to shread rolled up newspaper and chew on wood I just sweep it all up when he's done actually I find he keeps his cage allot cleaner they don't throw food like the Grey's do so in that way they are easier and there poop is about the same as a Grey the Severe macaw is about the same size as a Grey not as heavy though its just that long tail that makes them look so much bigger. I think there just great birds and your right 500. is a steal I paid 700. for mine and he was a 8yr old rescue.

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2009/07/01 19:04 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Partner316 Posted July 3, 2009 Author Share Posted July 3, 2009 Well, The Severe's are normally 750 but are cut down to 500 right now, probably because not a lot of people around my area are into exotic birds as much as I am. The babies were cute, but the 3 older ones they had were a bit on the mean side. The owner doesn't understand why. She says it wasn't from a lack of attention or anything so she is kinda puzzled by it. Judy, I'm having that problem. It is so tempting to bring home that Timneh. He is quite a feisty little one, he is mean. But I think I could get him to be more open. I have the patience and the heart to try and get him to be open if he is willing. If not, he would still be loved all the same. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
