Hi everyone!!

Just a quick question...while at the petstore the other day admiring a beautiful CAG, I read a sign next to the cage that said not to whistle to the grey because it's easier for them to do than talk and if you teach it to whistle, it will not talk. Does this have any truth? I have taught Tuki a whistle, but have tried to not do it latley because of this info at the pet store! Thanks!! :)

Dixie whistles and talks, equally, she especially likes to do the wolf whistle and then say "pretty girl".

I'm sure others on here have much more info and expertise.

It holds no truth at all!

With my eldest grey Charlie we used to whistle when he was a baby and he would mimic back copying the wolf whistle and other tunes, he is now 2 years old and talks up a storm as well as whistling lots of different tunes which he loves to do.

I love to hear them whistling,I cant believe they would put a sign up saying this;)

dont worry birds are meant to whistle i think the sign in the store is for the bird to talk rather than whistle so it can be sold as a talker but trust me it wont stop it whistling coz thats what birds do ;)

Not true at all. At least not for a Grey. Whisper could whistle at 6 months old and now at 18 months old she has lots of whistles and sounds but also says over 45 different phrases.

I heard other shopowners said that too. I think it is an

old grandma advice. Over here, most people believed that if we trimmed the tongue of the parrot, the bird would talk even better.

Everyone is right, whistling will not keep them from talking, Josey learned the wolf whistle right after I brought her home and she talks and says lots of words and phrases.

I don't think that's true of any talking bird My amazon can whistle lots of different songs and she also talks allot so if its not true of one bird I can't see why it would be true of another
