Guest briansmum
i notice we are getting a lot of new family members lately, a few of which don't have their birdies yet and are asking about breeders etc. so i thought it might be nice to compile a list between us of where we got out birds, where we are, where they are, what our experience with them were etc so new people can have a quick reference to good breeders with reccomendations. or if you didn't like your breeder say that too. i'll start. if nothing else it might be nice to hear the origin of eachothers birds. I'm in the UK, in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, and the breeder was in Hull..... www.babygreys.co.uk the website drew me immediately, so informative to prospective owners, and although money shouldn't matter for £900 i got my baby already DNA sexed, with a hatch certificate with a picture of his parents, and lots of useful numbers/websites etc. a years supply of food with an instruction sheet, a large cage with perches and toys and a travel cage. the breeder does encourage people to visit but it was a bit too far for me as i don't drive, but he kept me up to date of my baby's progress via e-mail and phone. when it came time for my baby to come home, the breeder delivered him himself, helped me assemble the cage and showed me how to hand feed and how to prepare the other food. he answered my questions about the birds temprement and talked openly about his birds at home, he was very friendly called brian "baby" not "the bird" which i though showed his obvious affection for them, and cuddled and kissed him. if you are in the UK looking to buy a grey I would deffinately reccomend babygreys. judygram
I'm in Eagle Rock, Virginia and I got my grey from a breeder in Covington, VA. It was not hatched there but somewhere else where they specialize in greys but my breeder friend fed her out until she was weaned. She usually deals with conures, budgies and such but is experienced with all kinds of birds, her house is full of a menagerie of different species. She is a bird lover above all else and cares deeply for each one. She was about 45 to 50 minutes from me so I could visit my little one to watch her progress. I had already purchased a sun conure from her and when I told her I was interested in a grey she contacted the grey breeders and got her for me. I paid $900 for her and she is the sweetest thing and worth every penny. I also take Josey to her to board while I go on vacation or have to leave her for a few days, like I did last weekend. She makes sure your bird is weaned before she lets you bring it home and I respect her for that, it was something I was not comfortable with. So my bird is VA born and raised like me. Looking forward to hearing the others stories on this subject.
