I personally think "they" are the ones responsible for his death by giving wrong medication but i go cool once i read other parrot stories & that in most cases they die the same way my one died. Be it with medicine or without.. There could be a 100 reasons why he died but surely these symptoms go common in most african greys aged in-between 4-8 months before they leave this world. May God give me the courage to keep another african grey but before that i intend to go to the bottom of this- What is this disease that starts with lethargic behavior? hot claws? lack of appetite? Fluffed feathers? Is it always incurable and deadly that in most cases it gets worse leaving the parrot losing his legs one by one and then sudden death? Why do most 4-8 months grey die like this? What could be the reason? Vitamin A,D or Calcium deficiency? Malnutrition? Zinc or Lead poisoning? Egg Yolk Peritonitis? Nerve damage? Stroke? PDD? Pulmonary sarcocystosis ?? Any other disease? I know the only true reason was that his time had come but for the sake of knowledge I ask. One more thing that I noticed was some sort of fluid exuded from his mouth when I lifted his dead body- Any indications.. what could be the reason & why ? Regards

Thank you all for your sympathy and kindness during our time of loss. T2 will be greatly missed. No other parrot or pet can ever replace the love & affection he gave us :'(

It is with deep sorrow I hereby announce the sad demise of my beloved 6 month old T2 (African grey). He passed away last night @ 4:30 am when I woke up for him :’( He was sick for the past 6 days & under medical treatment. It all started 6 days ago, all of a sudden our grey was very silent and not active + v hot claws. We were advised to give him panadol syrup 2 drops in the morning, evening & night. During this course of time nothing improved & we observed him shivering sometimes as well. (Droppings were normal) Another day passed and he stopped eating by himself. He had become very weak. Now we were advised to hand-feed 30-40ml baby feed formula 3 times a day along with panadol drops. No improvement.. so we went to a local vet & he prescribed us Terramycin (Oxytetracycline) anti-biotic ( 1/4 capsule powder) twice a day (while feeding) and injected 1 ml Gentamicin (40mg) and neurobion. As there was no positive sign of any improvement so we changed the doctor & went to another vet who enjoyed a good reputation. We told him about the past medication & everything. After examination he told us that temperature is normal & whatever disease he had was now gone due to already given anti-biotics & medicines. He then prescribed us Flagyl syrup (Benzoyl metronidazole) 2 ml in the morning & evening + ORS + Keflex drops (1/2 ml in the morning & evening) & gave him half tablet of deltacortril (white). (And asked us to give half deltacortril tablets once daily for 3 days) This seemed too much medication but we didn't have any other option. So we started this medication, Yesterday after giving him the morning feed & medication @ 10:30am- all seemed to be well but then at 2:30 pm he did a huge vomit & all of a sudden he stopped walking. Something went wrong with his left leg. He was unable to stand properly & walk due to his left leg. Took him to the vet again & he diagnosed fever due to some bacterial infection and gave him brufin syrup and asked us to stick to the already prescribed medication. By 10:00am we did notice that his right leg was also not working properly. Did all we could, kept him hydrated- At 1 am he went to sleep but when we woke up at 4:30am to see his condition- he was gone :’( He was such an angel, a sweetheart, so adorable.. Would fly to my room & land on my belly every morning and would wake me up :’( When I would return back from office he would fly and sit on my shoulder.. I don’t have words.. I lost my only baby.. :’(

Other details are as under; weight: 0.46 kg age: 6 months We're v much worried now & taking it to the doc again but we don't have any specialized avian vets overhere. Let's see what he has to say & do BUT we would highly appreciate if any one of you can HELP us with regards to ANY SORT OF INFORMATION / GUIDANCE that can assist us in proper treatment & recovery. Also attaching current pictures for reference. Regards,

my 5 months old grey poops everywhere except inside it's cage where it spends upto 8-10 hours sleeeping we were just discussing today how to make it understand that cage was meant to be the place where it should poop & not all over the house Good thing is that it never poops while on my hand, shoulder or head.. if it feels the urge to poop it might fly off to a flat surface (a floor, etc) & will perform a 4 sec dancing ritual before doing the dew I find these birds v clever.. beyond imagination.. i personally think they can be potty trained.. just havn't figured out a way as yet -
Thanku guys for sharing your views! The reason i'm so concerned was due to the fact that i lost a ring-neck because of a ceiling fan 15 years ago when i was a kid. And one bad move or moment of panic can get your bird killed- so true. Knowing all that & evaluating all the risks i would like to add here that so far i'm not dictating anything to my bird & it is learning things by itself and it has chosen to live with us, be with us under running ceiling fans. It's been a month now since fans are running and yes- it knows and avoid the ceiling fans with no problem but again, its my point of view & would vary from case to case.. I think best thing would be to "follow your instincts, only we, know our birds" but experimenting on such living beings is not worth the risk

My 5 months old grey seem to be observing the movements of a ceiling fan very well. The way it looks up once a fan is turned on I can’t express.. for the very first time it got scared a little & clearly hinted that this moving thing up there looks dangerous. Now it is used to with the noise & enjoys being under a ceiling fan. However, it hasn’t given up its way of looking and evaluating every time a fan is turned on. I clearly get this impression that it knows what’s up there & what’s going on. It flies freely inside the house.. should I take this big risk & leave it under running ceiling fans? Regards, Saad.

Thank you so much guys for the suggestions & kind words, it really means alot! I'm working on another idea wherein i've utilized my central patio (next to living room) for my birdie. It's a nice big space with its toys, perch, feed, etc. I've also managed to get a bladeless (dyson-like) fan for it but it's really hard to leave it all alone there even for a couple of mins as it only enjoys our company :'( Once it sees us it would not resist n would try every possible thing to get through the glass/wire-mesh window n come to us.. today it got hurt a little (0.0001%) banging twice with the wire-mesh frame.. its really painful seeing it without us even though its just a couple of hours practice as it still sleeps inside in an indoor cage which happens to be it's sleeping area n funny it never poops there I'll put up some pics soon of this new arrangement.. pls do let me know if there is any other way/idea to make things better & easy, thanks.
