  1. Yay for Pearl! And Happy Birthday, right? I'm jealous! I think I have to wait 3 more years!
  2. Hi! Thanks for writing on my page about having children and making it work with a baby grey. I'd love to hear how it goes. How old are your kids? Mine are still really rambunctious and I don't want them getting bitten, or the grey mimicking the sounds that come out of these boys!

    Good luck with your bird!

  3. How old are all your kids, Methuselah? Mine are boys, ages 2 & 3. Both are pretty loud and active. Too young to have responsibility for a bird. I'd love to hear how your bird likes the 1 year old and any other young kids. Good luck!!
  4. What does any one think about starting with a pair of hand-fed buggies for now?
  5. Thanks for the link! I probably will get something soon. Before I fell in love with greys, I was considering a parrotlet or caique, but I should wait on them for the same reasons, right? I've read that Pionus make good family pets, so I am researching them now. I've heard they are sweet and quiet, but I know "it all depends on the individual bird". I do love the look of cocktails but they've always struck me as being dirty and boring. I know that is a grossly wrong generalization. That's terrible, sorry! The owner of the parrot store near me suggested a green cheek conure, but they never won me over. I bet anything I research will win me over. Not easy for the most indecisive person in the world!
  6. Thanks for your replies every one. I have decided I do need to wait til my boys are more mature. I don't want my grey mimicking tantrums and whining and begging! But I'm still obsessed with greys and this forum! It's going to be hard to wait. I might have to get a canary in the meantime. I'll still be lurking... Might be an expert in theory not practice by the time I get a baby grey!
  7. Hi! Has any one here gotten a baby bird while they had young children at home? How was it? Thanks, Nancy
  8. OK, HI! Been reading as much as I can on here for a few days. CAGS are so captivating! I do have two little boys, ages 2 & 3. Any one think I may be biting off more than I can chew at this time? I know you don't know me, but you know what it's like to have a baby CAG and I don't, and some of you may know what it's like to have to have little boys. Also have 2 dogs. I've heard CAGs don't make great first birds, but I think if you love them and have patience, what's the difference? So on to my question... there's a bird shop 1 hour from me that gets babies at 3 weeks, keeps them in a nursery and hand feeds them, and I can go visit and bond with the baby. Honestly, I'd probably only get there once or twice a week. Then there's a breeder about 2 hours away, who doesn't let any one in their nursery. Then there's a bird shop ("farm") with a good reputation about 3 hours away, which has babies all the time, where I could go and let the baby "pick me". I like the idea of holding a little baby and watching it grow from 3 weeks, but I don't think I get a choice of birds. It's just "next on the list". I'll have probably a hundred more questions right off the bat, so nice to meet you all! Thanks, Nancy
