  1. Hi everyone! I've been reading Irene pepperbergs book Alex and me and in it she was talking about a little exercise that she got Alex to do. It was tying a string to a perch with an almond on the end and suspended so that they would have to pull the string up to get the treat. It sounded easy so I gave it a go with my 3 birds. My grey Scooby cocked his head and pulled it straight up I had a very proud mummy moment then the other two parrots got it eventually but it got me wondering about any other game/puzzles that you guys have heard of or done with your birds? Gemma
  2. thankyou everyone, I have settled on the name scooby but it took me a few days to decide. We've just been to the vets tobe micro chipped and wormed and he is getting along great with my 2 other birds. He can say "hello", "love you" and i swear he said "thank you" the other day!!
  3. Thankyou everyone! The breeder said he was about 5 months but he has settled it extremely well. He has been chirping and talking a little. H
  4. Hi everyone, Ive just picked up my new baby yesterday ( still haven't decided on a name yet) and he has been trying to feed off of my fingers like unweaned babies do when they are getting fed.. should I just continue to feed him the food the breeder gave me or should I go out and buy some baby formula and feed him that until he is ready? He is about 5 months old, or so I have been told. Love your opinons! Thanks:D
  5. Hi Everyone! My name is Gemma and I'm from Australia, I've wanted an African Grey for a very long time now and I've just bought one! I get to pck my little boy up tomorrow and would love any advice anyone has to give me. I have hand raised an Indian Ringneck (Benny) and an Alexandrine(Claude) and I'm really looking forward to picking up my new FID. I haven't quite picked a name for him yet but I like Scooby. Anyways thanks for reading!!
  6. can you use the actual aloe vera gel that comes out of the plant and dilute it a bit? or do you have to use juice? thanks
  7. i wanted to call another one of my birds that. I wanted us to play marco polo together
  8. It's just so cute, but I don't know where to start with names. Are boys or girls the same because I've had many people telling me different things
  9. Wow....I'm from Australia and I am paying $5500 just for my African Grey!....I'm also too lazy (and scared) to find out how much I spend on the two birds I already have
  10. Haha what's making you hesitate when thinking about getting one? I wasn't even shopping for an IRN when I fell in love with Benny. But he was cute, he had no feathers, was a teeny tiny baby and he was making cute little sounds and I just had to have him. Thats so cute Ariisamis! They are so lovely
  11. I really like the name Cricket! Its really cute! We have 3 cats, 1 dog, 2 rabbits, 1 guinea pig, 2 chickens and my 2 birds. We have always had lots of pets, we used to breed budgies and cockatiels but we stopped after our avairy was blown over in some really bad winds
  12. Yeah the Benny is a real sweetheart. I got him when he was pink and featherless and I raised him from then on. I got Claude a few weeks before he was ready to be weaned and he is a real biter. He has bonded heavily to my mother and lunges every time I go near his cage. It doesn't stop me from giving him kisses, cuddles and lots of love even though I get bitten for it. Benny rarely ever bites but when he does i just put him on the floor and walk away, he always runs as fast as he can back to me and we kiss and make up. Such a sweetie
  13. yes the green one (Claude) is an Alexandrine and the blue one (Benny) is an Indian Ringneck. They will turn 2 this year in September so their rings should be right on schedule. Thankyou I have been wondering whether Benny was getting a ring or whether it was just my imagination YAY! Two Boys!
  14. Here are my two gorgeous boys (I think? I know that one if definately a a boy)
  15. thanks for your replies! i will have to post some photos of my Fids for everyone
  16. My name is Gemma, I'm from Australia and have wanted an African Grey since (I kid you not) I was 7. I have always been a bit of a bird nerd but my real birdy side was released when I got my first Fid, Benny, he is an Indian Ringneck. And he was soon followed by my second Fid, Claude, an Alexandrine who likes to destroy everything that gets in his path. Benny is the well behaved one of my two although he does have his days . I have been researching African Greys for about 2 years now and finally decided that I'm just going to save up and get one for my birthday. I've already bought him/her a cage, multiple toys and toy making parts now I just need the bird!! I'm incredibly excited and I wish I could have him/her now! Thanks for reading my little story, joining this forum just seems like another step closer to the day when I get my 3rd Fid!!!
  17. I made the sock toy and it was a real hit with my fids! i wrapped banana chips and almonds with some paper, stuffed them in the sock and hung it up on their play area. i didn't think that they would have liked it as much! they played with it for 2 hours!! and then when put them back in their cage they were reaching through the bars to try and grab it, i felt a bit bad because took them away from their new fantastic toy so i refilled it and took them out of their cage again (they didn't break to sock, just used their beaks to crush the insides to dust)
