  1. I'm in UK. ( I lived in Greece before) And I'm SHOCKED!!! It's raining all day lond for about two months!!! I start to worry about my CAG. What about sun? What can I do? I've read about full spectrum light. But I know I need to choose it carefully, because not all of them are suited for birds. Can anybody reccomend some good quality full spectrum lamp (especially members from UK)? And one more question. We have 18-19 degrees C inside the house. Is it enough for my feathered baby's bath?
  2. I have no words to describe how sorry I am for your loss... God be with you!
  3. Sylia did not go through any quarantine period when we came to Greece. And it is not required for pet-birds accompanied by their owners entering UK from another EU member, giving that all the papers and the crate are accordig to their rules. Double and triple check with the airlines!!!
  4. Hi. I'm sorry for not answering for so long, but I'm on my jorney to UK. Currently we arein Athens. To answer your question, I have Adventure Pack Cage fr 6 years now and I'm very happy with it. We've traveled from Cyprus to Greece with it and it was great. But British Airways does not allow pets in the cabin and my CAG has to travel by Cagro (with the same plane). Plus hi cage we have is not accepted by IATA. They adviced me to get this one ( http://www.birdsupplies.com/wingabago-bird-carrier-small/ ). The cotton cover is a MUST!! I have to say that I'm having a lot o problems with my CAG's transportation, because Greece and UK can not agree about the requirements for the crate and papers. I'm in a lot of stress now. Our flight is on Tuesday. Fingers crossed!
  5. Hello Hayley23. I have moved from another country when my CAG was 2 years old. She handled the whole traveling thing beautifully. She had her traveling cage which I bought about 5-6 months before moving. So she was very comfortable in it. On the plane the cage was next to me and she was holding my finger for comfort. So this is my advice: get the traveling cage now (if you have not done that yet), so your baby have time to get used to it. A smaller cage for sleeping would be ok. But the cage outdoors has some issues. Like unpredictable weather. Low or high tempreture. And 8 hours outdoors without your supervision... I would be very worried about my baby being alone outside for so long. Is there absolutely no space for a cage inside? Good luck!
  6. If you have an opportunity you should rinse the cage with runnig water just to be sure that non of the powder/paint/dust remained on the bars.
  7. I've ordered parts for Sylia's toys from http://www.nalanitoys.com many times - very good. They will ship worldwide. Plus I like very much there toys too!
  8. Great pictures! Well done!! I envy you a little! I couldn't put that thing on my Sylia no matter what I did. I have tried for 6 months before I gave up. I introdused it to her properly, but she never got comfortable with it being next to her, not to mention ON HER. So, unfortunately, it's no harness for us.
  9. Do you cover the cage? Did you check for noises when it's dark? My CAG is very afraid of dog's barking outside of our house during the night. But I can't do anything about it because it's not our dog. I just turn on the small lamp and pet her a little so she can calm, and then leave the lights on and go to bed. The cage placed just outside the door can be very stressful for the bird, and not only during the night. You could try to take Lillie to a smaller night-time-cage, put it in some very quite place, and cover it. But she must get used to a smaller cage first. Good luck. I can uderstand you because I can't sleep when my CAG can't settle down for night. In those cases I usually stay up all night. What can I say? Our fids are our babies!

No, I think for traveling it's just fine. I have my travel cage and it's almost the same size as the King's one. Once I spent my one-week-vacation far away from home and took Sylia with me in her travel-cage. It was ok. She was a lot of time out of the cage in the room or outside with the harness (about 7-9 hours). But I can tell you that we (my hubby & I) were concerned about Sylia's wellbeing most of the time and did not pay enough attention on relaxing. It's just like taking a newborn baby on vacation with you.
  12. It's a very nice place for your fid! You could put one-two wooden shredding toys. Wooden toys always keep busy my little lady. She destroys them very quickly but enjoys every minute!
  13. I agree with everybody. Kids are high-stress-and-noise-makers. So it's perfectly logical that the greys can not relax around them. I have a 3-years-old boy. He can give to Sylia some treats or toy, but that's all. I never allow him to pet Sylia because they both are too impatient. I can tell that Sylia can't fully relax when I play with her and my son is somewhere near us. Maybe it is because of red McQeens my son always carries with him, and Sylia doesn't like red things at all. But few days ago I saw Sylia sitting on the floor and Alex (my son) running from room to room. And she did not look scared only on guard. Maybe they will someday play together, when Alex is older and have more calm behavior.
  14. I can't express how sorry I am to hear this news. But don't give up your hope just yet! If there is a way to pull this through, I'll find it! OMG, I'm imagining doing very bad things to this lady! It's a good thing that I'm far far away!
  15. I've solved the ''soup & fresh water'' problem by putting two water bowls, one close to the food bowl, and another one as far away from food as possible. And I don't fill the soup-water-bowl very much, that way Sylia can enjoy her soup, but she still has fresh water in the cage. Ok, the soup-bowl needs to be changed twice a day of course, but at least I do not worry about her having fresh water. I don't think anything can stop a grey from being messy!
  16. You have a strong will and a HUGE heart! That's all Oliver needs! He couldn't find anyone to care for him better than you do! You are always in my thoughts.

Waw! Your Grey is soooo cute! Can't wait to hear fi it as girl or boy! And how you'll name him/her. I've read in the NothernParrots site the commentaries on the King's Aluminium travel cage (Medium size), some buyer said that it is small for his African Grey. So I assume that it's great for travel but not for staying in for a long time. I will definately buy one later for our traveling.
  18. Welcome SaladNinja & Noodle! Noodle...mmm...such delicious name!
  19. Hello, Katherine! Welcome! I've joined this family one month ego and I love love love it here! I love the adoration this forum's members feel for there fids! This kind of love for your pet-bird can understand only another parrot owner. The truth is that our fids own us! And we like it ;D Do you have any cutie-cutie Grey? Or you are an owner-to-be? (I'll move to Uk in April )
  20. She is so cute wrapped in the towel, like a baby!! My Grey takes bath in the shower on her sand perch too! she doesnt like it but lets me have my way because she adores being wet & flying around like crazy jet!
  21. I egree with Dave too. I would go to a vet just to get an expert's opinion. But the fact he does that only with our wife and every 4-5 days made me think that maybe he considers your wife his mommy and is expecting her to feed him...?
  22. Very useful feedback! Thank you Casper! My baby needs 3-4 weeks to get used to the new toy. This is my biggest difficulty with her. Because of my 3y.o. son I can't leave her toys for long outside her cage and that increases the time before I can put the toy inside the cage.
  23. Waw! very smooth landing at his age! Bravo Archimedes!!! Soon enough he will follow you everywhere! Sylia had never crash landing. She was (and still is )a smartie and at the beginning was flying toward couches and back. And after becoming sure of herself she started to fly big circles (we had very large open space, so I never clipped her feathers). And like JeffNOK, I too envy her sometimes for her outstanding flying skills!
  24. Lucky lucky Twix!!! Very nice cage! I'll have to buy for my baby a new cage too. I was looking for something like yours.
