  1. I wished my grey would like ice cubes. She prefers to chew on any piece of furniture or moulding and never her wood toys.
  2. Past experience for me: I had two birds that were very friendly and each had a cage. When allowed to be together, they bonded and were agressive towards me.
  3. I built my own carrier. I bought a new cat carrier at a yard sale for $5.00 Drilled a hole on each side and inserted a piece of dowel rod (3.00) It gives my bird a lot of fresh air and allows her to see completely from the front side.
  4. Take a lot of time and patience. Birds do not like to be rushed. As your bird becomes familiar with it's new surroundings, it should settle down.
  5. Go with your chosen name. It is special for a special bird.
  6. As posted earlier, I have had various parrots for over 33 years. It still amazes me at their ability to do many things to please their owner. It doesn't happen overnight, but they certainly do not lack for trying. My newest( 1 month ago) female CAG) is what I would consider not neglected but ignored. Both husband and wife worked long hours with the bird being upstairs in a spare bedroom. If they had enough time at night, the bird(Ruby) would be allowed to the living room to watch TV as the couple relaxed. My point on this is, if you are not committed enough for proper care, rehome the bird. Although it doesn't make too much difference to me, my Ruby was bonded to the wife although I was told different. She is proving that she appreciates everyone and will step-up to anyone. She prefers to be head-scratched by a female, but she constantly tries to please. If I didn't mention on an earlier post, she is 12 years old and was rehomed a month ago. I hope this is not too boring of a statement. All of everyones post are helpful, enjoyable and meaningful. Ken
  7. I have never heard about it. Let me know if it works.
  8. I have only recently joined the forum. I have owned various types of parrots for over 33 years. I guess what amazes me most is the love and dedication many of you grey owners have posted about. Yesterday (Sat) I brought home a 12 year old CAG female. Her owner thought he was doing everything right, when I think that a lack of education of the bird he was not doing any justice. The bird plucked shortly after he purchased her and he did take it to the vet. However, The bird cage was kept in a spare bedroom. The man worked 14 hour days driving truck. His wife worked between 10-11 hours. After work, he would bring the bird to her playstand in the livingroom area. Between eating and watching TV, how much time was spent interacting with their so-called loved one. I think it is up to all of us to help educate prospective owners of any parrot of what is involve in parrot ownership. Keep posting, you are never too old to learn new things. Ken
  9. Anyone bought from a breeder on-line? Wondering how honest they might be.
  10. I also do rescue, rehab and placement. I and my helpers are volunteer. we are not funded by anyone. The sheer enjoyment of just being around such wonderful creatures gives us enjoyment. As many of you know, there are disappointments and frustrations involved with this. I think that it is wonderful that the pet stores are available to provide us with the necessary items for our birds. But, they are in the business of selling birds in which many, many people are not educated on. Most have not done enough research on the bird that they will choose to buy. They are not committed to a long term relationship. I am located in Western NY and will pay shipping if I can be of help. Please note; I am not a breeder or a seller of birds. You can contact me anytime at ken14548@hotmail.com thanks, Ken

    Raw Honey?

Honey is a great thing. Keep in moderation and remember that it is not a sugar product. There is nothing more natural than honey. It is often used for medicinal purposes with great results.
  12. I totally agree. It is not a bad habit, so don't worry. Much better than being bored and plucking
  13. Does anyone provide lights for their birds? There are so-called avian lights that are supposed to be beneficial for birds. Does anyone use them?
