  1. I want to honestly thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. It has been so hard for us to get over this. Hitting us harder than we both could have ever imagined. I love the fact that we have this community to share our stories, both good and bad. God Bless you all. Wayne & Nancy
  2. Thank you for your words, I agree with you, my wife is a little more forgiving than I am. I just bothers me that for months I have listened to her tell me how much she knew, which she was on some level. But to just go ahead as if she knew better than I what was best for my bird in unforgivable. I feel she should be held accountable, and people need to be made aware. If I had to do it all over again, I would make the four hour drive to North Carolina to the only nearby Avian Vet. Thanks again Judy, I will keep you posted. Wayne
  3. Last Saturday we lost our wonderful family member Lilo. Lilo was a four year old Red Factor African Grey. She was the sweetest bird we have ever had. After moving to South Carolina, and doing some research, I found a local rescue in the area. I made several trips to the place, they have great prices of food, toys, etc. The owner seemed very knowledgeable. She convinced me to get Lilo,s nails and beak done there. So I did. All was going well until she decided to continue and work on her wings. I explained the wings did not need to be done, Lilo has one wing that was damaged when she was a baby, and the shafts and feathers never grew back. Needless to say she would never be able to fly no matter what, but that just made us love her all the more. So this women continues on to pull several shafts from Lilo's bad wing, I began to get nervous when I saw Lilo not moving any more, the woman took her to the restroom and splashed water on the bird. She then came back out, locked the front door and told me Lilo was dead, and that she should have never done so much to stress her out. I was in shock, began to cry and could not believe what I was hearing. She let me hold the bird, then told me she would have her cremated for me, that was a week ago and have not heard from her. I am so hurt, I do not have any idea what to do. I know that I will never get another bird, I just can't go thru that again, nor could I ever replace Lilo. I hold her responsible in one way, and think if she did not do all this work, we would still have Lilo today. My question to everyone here is, what would you do ? Thanks in advance for your input. Sincerely, Wayne

    Moving

I will be moving from Cape Cod to South Carolina in just a few weeks, and I am worried about the best way to transport my birds. I have Two grey's a Macaw, and a conure. I know the trip is going to be stressful on them as it is, any ideas or thoughts about what I can do to make the whole process easier on them ? I really do not want to send them into some sort of panic. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Wayne
  5. Do you have any plans for this project ? Sizes, materials, etc....would love to build one for my blue and gold. Thanks, Wayne
  6. I just want to thank everyone for all the kind words and prayers, it meant a lot to me and my family. I still can't believe we got Luigi back. Four days and nights on his own, he survived a crow attack, rain and thunderstorms, what a tough bird...Thanks again. Wayne
  7. I want to thank everyone for all the prayers, Luigi was found today. He flew into the local bus companies garage and the onto the shoulder of one of the mechanics. They took him to the lunch room and fed him like a king. They called and my daughter and I went to pick him up. He was a big time celebrity with everyone there. He looks a little banged up, but not anything real bad. Gonna keep an eye on him for a few days, but I think he is going to be ok. Once again, thank you to everyone !!!!!!! God Bless you all !!!!! Wayne
  8. Well there has been no sightings of Luigi, I just pray that best case scenario, someone found him and at least gives him a good home. I have called every animal hospital, bird sanctuary, animal control, local bird clubs and put out almost one hundred fliers. My hope is dwindling quickly......I will never be able to replace such a wonderful family member. Wayne
  9. Thank you all for your prayers, flyers are up all over the place. The weather is not due to get below 57 tonight. I will keep you all posted.
  10. I made a horrible mistake today, I went out the back slider to check the mail, and before I knew what happen, Luigi came flying out after me. I never closed the screen door behind me. I was instantly crushed at what a stupid mistake I made. My wife, kids and I spent several hours trying to get him back. He would perch in a tree top, and as I moved closer to him he flew away. This occurred three times. Finally he flew off into the sunset, we have not seen him since. I cant help but beating myself up over this. I pray he makes his way home in the morning. I have left his cage in the back yard, with any luck he will be hungry in the morning, and come get his breakfast. Thank you all in advance for your prayers. Wayne
  11. Hey Dave, Thanks for the info, I meant that I would love to take the parrots with me when I walk, but I was amazed to learn that they could pick up bacteria by walking around. Great info, and thanks again. Wayne
  12. Would love to get the plans for this, such a great idea.
  13. I would really like my birds to get some flight training in, as well as being able to take them for walks. Does anyone have any opinion on which harness is the best. I know I will probable need two, one for Arlo, my Macaw, and one for my two Greys, Lilo and Luigi. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Wayne
  14. Thanks so much for the information, I am going to try these all today.
