  1. Great! thanks guys, I will definitely take that into consideration
  2. Thanks everyone for the input! I know it really depends on the bird, but I've heard the orange winged amazons are generally more gentle and quieter than the other amazons and that's why I'm more interested in them. I also have heard they can either be really good talkers or not talk at all. I love the greys for their intelligence, beauty, and speech ability. I'm just afraid getting one would be more than I can handle.. I know every parrot needs daily attention and stimulation but I'm just nervous because greys are more sensitive.
  3. Hey everyone, so I originally really wanted a grey but not sure if they would be the right choice for me right now, as I know they are a really challenging species. I've recently started thinking about and researching orange winged amazons, I really like their more gentle nature as apposed to the other amazon species. And I have always loved amazons but I think the orange winged would be better for me as I would be a first time amazon owner. Just curious if anyone on here owns one and could give me more insight on them. are they "easier" to care for than a grey? Or would it be equally as challenging? Thanks!!
  4. Great! thanks everyone for the input. I guess it really all depends on the personality of the bird but I'm hoping if I get one young, like Doug said, I can get them accustomed to my sporadic schedule with minimum stress. I just hate not knowing what the future may bring...
  5. So I have been really considering getting a congo grey for a while now but I am a little hesitant/nervous.. Right now, I have quite a lot of time on my hands, I only work weekends and a couple days during the week as of now. I am a freelance makeup artist, so I have no set work schedule... Would this be an issue for keeping a grey? I am nervous about it starting to pluck its feathers because of my sporadic schedule, I would feel horrible if this started to happen... But I'm also wondering if my free time would help make up for it?? I know how demanding parrots are (I used to have a sun conure that constantly wanted to be out of the cage and with me) But I feel like I could be using all my free time right now to care for a grey.. It's a sticky situation for me.. Also, how good are greys with moving? I am not moving anytime soon but just want to know for future reference... I truly love parrots and my life just doesn't feel complete without one but I don't want to make any wrong choices.. Thanks for your guys' advice! I still have lots more questions too
  6. Hi everyone! My name is Sara, I joined this site because I am very interested in buying a congo grey, and have been for quite some time, but I'm also a little hesitant.. so I am here to learn more from other owners what it's like having a grey before I make any big decisions. I currently own 3 happy budgies, a cat, and a Siberian husky, but sadly my beloved sun conure, Jasper, passed away almost a year ago My life just feels incomplete without a parrot friend (they are my absolute favorite animal/pet!), and there's just something about the greys that draw me in. I will be posting more questions very soon because I am really eager to here everyone's input
