  1. I have a baby cag that is 6 mos. old, she looks exactly like your bird. I know many of people will say that they all look similar however our birds like identical! Same look on the face, amount of fluff etc. I need to post a pic for you!
  2. Its so funny that you are getting Moxie/Roxie! I got Dorothy from the same breeder! Dorothy was a bit older and her brother was taken home before I picked up Dorothy and the breeder felt sorry for her being by her self in the cage so they put her in with Roxie and her brother (huge brother!) I was looking for pictures of the three of them but I can't find them! It was very cute going in to the baby room and seeing Dorothy who looked so big compared to Roxie and her brother they didn't have all of their feathers yet. However they were all huddled together in a big heap! They didn't seem to mind that Dorothy was bigger, older & not their sibling. They helped her to not be scared and alone! I met the couple that took her home, I remember telling my husband that Roxie was so cute, they were feeding her! Have you been to the breeder/bird farm that she came from? If you are coming out this way to pick her up you should stop by it is a great place!
  3. I tried to find it on the tv as well. I cannot find it!
  4. My amazon LOVES them my cag not so much. I use them as a treat only, with Dorothy (cag) I crush them and sprinkle on her veggies, it kind of gets her started eating them!
  5. I agree with the others. Meeting a bird may or may not show you it's actual personality. We have a rehomed amazon, she was wonderful at first meeting, in fact i visited with her several times before bringing her home. I cleaned her cage, bathed her and then went to put her in her cage well, all Hell broke loose. She turned into an attack bird within seconds. Once in her cage we could not get her out again. It has taken alot of patience and time to earn trust with her. She is still a very nervous bird but has made great strides! I say if you have te time, patience, desire and money to take on another bird then go for it! You will never know what this bird has been through and what could possibly set it off. It may come home and just fit right in however chances are it will be a process. It's great to get to see the enviroment he is coming from it may give you clues as how to proceed. Good luck and let us know what happens. Pictures are always welcome!!
  6. I live in dayton ohio. Where do I find it to watch?
  7. I read that white toenails may mean they are red factor. I would love it if someone with more knowledge on this would tell me if this is true.
  8. That shower curtain cracks me up! I went on the "geek" website and found Dexter blood stain coasters and I MUST have them! Dexter is my fav show and I love these coasters! Of course they are sold out right now!
  9. Ok, obviously I'm totally out of the loop, what is tabletop role playing? Where did you get the amazing chess piece ice cube tray?
  10. CONGRATS! I am so happy that she is home! I know how excited you have been! We need pics! As for the eating, Dorothy eats and eats as well! She is a little piglet too!
  11. Oh My Goodness! So, so beautiful! What is his personality like?
  12. My baby Dorothy has some black toenails and some white. I don't think that is unusual, the beak however does appear different.
  13. wow! What fun they must have! My Dorothy would love to come over for a playdate!
  14. I don't know where you would would get a cag or tag for that price. Around here they are $1000. Maybe you could find a rescue that would have one. I don't understand the statement that you made about the next day finding something for less. This is an animal not a television that would go on sale. Good luck finding one at this price.
  15. Thanks for sharing, he is adorable. Loved how he flew to daddy when his work was done! Going out to get some today!
  16. I had just brought home my java tree when I saw an older post of yours that showed your playstands. I was sad since I like yours so much better! I love that it has lower levels so birds can have toys hanging down to them, if that makes sense. Mine is flatter so the toys hang down below the birds. Not sure if it makes sense however I wish I lived closer so I could get one like yours!
  17. I rescued a 15 year old lilac crowned amazon (Kiwi) prior to getting our cag. We brought Dorothy our cag home as a baby, Kiwi can be a bit grumpy however she has accepted Dorothy. I put them both on the java tree together they seem to just ignore each other. Dorothy is so young and I think that Kiwi knows this so just puts up with her. I can tell that she isn't always thrilled however "so far, so good".
  18. Before the accident did Quinn let you touch him?
  19. This is a question that comes up all the time. I like your wife, am in love with my candles! This was the one thing I wanted to find out when getting my birds. I have asked my vet and my breeder about this and this is what I have found out. You can burn any soy candle (as long as thereis no metal in the wick, chances are you will not find that in a soy candle) You can burn any beeswax candle. My doctor is not worried about the scented candles, he is more worried about the wick. Do not burn any candle with any type of metal in the wick. Stay away from heavily scented candles right next to where the bird is. Even after saying this I try and mostly burn the soy candles in the house. My fav is Aveda shampure. I have burned it quite often in a room next to where the birds are. Partylite also makes very nice soy candles that I burn.
  20. Great question! I had a roomate with an amazon many years ago. She told/taught me many things about parrots. I was fascinated, I decided that some day I would have a bird! Well many years later I still remembered something that shetold me over and over again. She told me how difficult greys are. She went on and on about what great talkers they were and how intelligient they were but always followed with the difficult personality comments. Since I never knew any better I believed her. I truly wanted one however I was scared to death that I didn't know enough! Well many years later I had a friend that worked at a wonderful aviary/breeder. We went in to visit her and I knew it was a matter of time before getting my bird! Meanwhile, I wandered into a rescue (if you could call this place a rescue, it is filthy and horrible.) While I was there I saw a lilac crown amazon that had just been brought in there. She was 15, living in a cockateil (rusty, filthy) cage. I could not leave her there. She also had a lump on her neck and had not been to the vet (nor do I think they had any intention of vetting her) I knew that I was about to get a hahns baby ( remember I wanted the grey but couldn't get my old roomates words out of my mind. ) I didn't think I knew enough to get my dream bird! I decided that I needed to rescue this amazon, I could not leave her there! That is how I got our lca Kiwi, I know I am making this a very long post sorry. I will try and sum it up, Kiwi was very sweet at the rescue however once home she turned into a very grumpy girl! I could no longer get her out of her cage. She bit me many times in my clumsy attempts to interact with her. I then went on a mission to learn all I could about rehoming birds (well just birds in general) I then began working very hard to build Kiwi's trust. I followed everything my vet and very nice breeder (with the aviary) told me to do. We moved her into a nice big cage, fed her healthy food, read to her, talked to her, sang to her etc. Well after what seemed like a long time (not really) Kiwi is now a happy bird (most of the time, she still has her grumpy days, but don't we all) In helping Kiwi, Kiwi helped me become more confident of my abilities with parrots. She taught me to be patient & brave! She showed me what it takes to really try and work with a bird, they call the shots! This said, I mentioned to my vet that I always wanted a grey, he encouraged me, thinking that it would also be good for Kiwi to watch another bird play with toys (she never moved from her perch!) I went to my breeder, he also told me that a baby cag would be much easier than a 15 year old "testy" amazon. LOL! So I put down a deposit and waited for my new little girl to grow up a little! I now have my "dream" bird Dorothy (cag) as well as my unexpected "love" Kiwi! They both bring something very different to my life, however I must say that I owe alot to my lca Kiwi. She has shown me alot of Grace after all my fumbling around at the beginning! (sorry for such a long post)
  21. Oh, she did want to come to you, she could have landed on someone elses head! I must admit that everytime I turned my back on Dorothy when I was fixing her formula etc. she would fly to the top of my head, it kind of ruined it now knowing that she wanted a tall place to land!! LOL Any thing more on a name??
  22. Ok, Life is Greyt. I totally understand your problem naming your baby. If you are anything like me it is making you crazy! 23. Oh, I love that picture! I love that she flies to you! Isn't it exciting!
  24. Luna is beautiful! I'm so glad she is settling in! How old is she? The reason I ask is because I have a 15 week old and she doesn't really hold on to her food, should I be worried?
