  1. Thank you guys for bringing up cockatiel's. I really was considering them but didn't know. I'm going to do some research know. It's sorta funny though. I just got an email from a dog rescue friend who knew I had a bird and asked if I could take a cockatiel that had flown into somebodies back yard and no one claimed him. I guess he's a real sweet heart, no band, was pretty thirsty and hungry but seems healthy. Hmm.. I probably shouldn't get in the business of bird rescue..lol Tons of people will be calling me. lol
  2. What are your guy's thoughts on lovebirds?? Good fit?
  3. Thank you guys. I have considered parrotlets and maybe budgies? I know that a bird being friendly especially toward any single individual can never be gaurenteed but I know certain breeds you at least have a better chance with. I figure worst case senerio I end up with another bird friend for me I def. Wouldn't be upset by it.
  4. Hello all. . I've recently been thinking about adopting another bird. Currently we have a 3 year old TAG who was a rehome, we've had Griffin for a 1 1/2 years and he seems to be doing quite well here. You can see my intro post complete with pictures and video here: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?193763-New-Member-%29 Griffin is very much my bird. He tolerates my husband if he has to and lets my girls feed him but that is as far as it goes. I was considering getting a bird a little more inclined to let my girls interact with them, supervised of course. What breed of bird would you all recommend? Griffin and the new bird would each have their own cage, and not be out of the cage at the same time at first, they would have separate boing, play gym, sunroom and aviary time. Which leads me to my next question. Is there a good post or advice already posted on how to acclimate birds to each other? The last thing I want is an injured, bullied or stressed bird. I really want a peaceful, calm ( well as calm as it gets in around here with a busy family and pets) transition. Maybe a second bird isn't an option but the girls desperately want to interact with Griffin more then he allows.
  5. Thanks for the warm welcome!! Yes the Aviary is awesome to have. We are really very busy as well. My husband is a Journeyman Power Lineman and we own 5 apartments that we rent out, plus our girls keep us SUPER busy. I was actually taking my girls to dance one day and the people next door had just bought a run down house and were fixing it up. I looked over the fence like the nosy person I am..lol.. and saw what they were using as a sand box with a roof, floor and sides and asked what they were doing with it. They said nothing and wanted it out. It took 10 guys to lift it, even with the roof off and we put it on the trailer and brought it home. My husband built a door and put the welded mesh around it, drilled small holes in the bottom so I could easily clean it put some hooks for the toys. I did the all the toys, and the DIY boing and we had a aviary for VERY CHEAP!! actually it was free because we got the welded wire from my husband's step dad who raises and shows pigeons. He had some and gave it to us. It was EXACTLY what I needed so it worked out fabulously. Since I'm a stay at home mom I'm super thrifty....I'm sure most everyone that has bird babies are
  6. Hello! I've been reading here for awhile now and decided to join. I'm a stay at home mommy for my two little girls and feel blessed by every minute of it!! Griffin is our TAG and very much loved. He's a ham and we LOVE having him around and enjoy his antics. He's some what of a clown, mixed with some sweetness and evilness every once in a while as well...lol. We adopted Griffin when he was around 1 1/2 years old. We've had him a little over 1 1/2 years now and he's thriving here with us. Here are some pics of our little man Griffin. The first and second one are him and his aviary. When we go outside he joins us. We live in Kansas so only when weather permits. The 3rd is him in the sunroom, this is basically where he gets to soak up the sun and chill in/around his cage/playtop and his boing, he has another cage in our living room as well. Here is a video of him too http://s246.photobucket.com/albums/gg86/Cescha/Griffin/
