  1. Misty, I have found him what I believe will prove a really good home and for that I am very very grateful. That is obviously ten times more important than the rest. I'm most worried about how he might feel: abandoned, lonely, scared... or worse He isn't noisy in terms of outright screaming, but when he gets in a "chatty" mood, he loses all interest in playing or anything else (so I can't distract him) and just talks loudly enough that my neighbors aren't pleased, and for a decent stretch of time. I have left his claws long for as long as I've had him because I thought he would prefer that (he does have rough perches... and perches of every other variety, spoiled prince/princess! lol They don't seem to have any effect, however.), but his new owner would prefer he be trimmed. He was trimmed when we got him, and didn't seem to have any balance/grip issues. He's a lean little guy, so hopefully he won't start falling Yes, I've had my little birds trimmed with that tool before at the vet's because I held a light up to their claws and saw the blood vessels extended very far, and I therefore thought that necessary. They had teeny stiletto knives on their feet effectively! In general, though, to be honestI hate trimming anything... except maybe horse's hooves Poor things start tripping and everything.
  2. Thank you, friends. I am trying my my hardest to work this out... I just pray he ends up happy. Even the best-sounding situation leaves me feeling worried he'll miss us at the least
  3. I'm planning to re-home my gorgeous baby soon :\ and have a bit of a question about trimming his claws. In all the the time I've had him (he's roughly 1.5 years old), I've let them be and dealt with the occasional scratch when the klutz slips off my shoulder or something. I need to clip him now though, and I'm a bit worried. Here's why: I've been given to understand that if you don't trim claws regularly, the veins /arteries (not sure which blood vessels there would be) grow farther and farther towards the tip. To my thinking this would make clipping him for the first time a bit riskier than for a regularly clipped bird, since there would be a greater chance of a serious bleed- one that even styptic powder couldn't stanch. Thus I'm a little wary of a home clipping expedition! Do you think I ought to get him clipped at the vet's just this one time? It will cost me over $100 because they require a physical first ...but I'd obviously rather cough that up than put him in danger. I don't think a nearby shop would be much better equipped than I to keep him alive if he started bleeding out, so I fear I'll need to resort to a vet trip. Thoughts?
  4. Hi, I have just replied to you, from a gmail address. If you don't receive t he message please check your spam folder. Even if we don't connect, best of luck!
  5. I have a lovely 1.5 y.o. Congo whom I'm hoping to re-home. A change in financial circumstances has made us have to move into a small no-pets apartment, and we're about to be kicked out for his noise. I'm PRAYING I can find somebody who already has large birds. Failing that, large bird experience would be good. Our boy is terribly sweet. He follows me around and snuggles a lot. If he "needs" to be petted he will climb up your arm to your face, put his head down, and butt it against your chin. He also has absolutely excellent manners - credit goes to his breeder, not me - and has never bitten me or even acted aggressively... which shocked me at first. He's a good talker and picks up words after hearing them for just a little while. I was semi-immoble for a week or two, bumping into everything and shouting, "Ouch!" over and over again. Sure enough, by the end of the first week he was mimicking me perfectly. He can step up and also poops if you put him on the ground. If you're careful to do this every so often, your belongings will stay mostly poop-free Mostly. He hates showers. References from a vet would be preferred.
  6. Thank you so much! I hadn't thought of many of these things. I will try to find someone to foster him (good idea!) and post in the section here too, for sure. Will also investigate the other options. Thank you. I still feel as distraught about the idea of not having him with us any more (I think not hearing him say "Ouch." every five minute will hurt the most; I went through a period after my accident of poor balance and spatial awareness, where I kept bumping into things, usually with him on my shoulder, and yelping "Ouch!" - so the clever creature started mocking me ) ...but having new "leads" on ways to find him a good home makes me feel better. The thing that really breaks my heart is thinking of how horrid he will feel when we walk away and leave him there :\
  7. I'm nearly in tears trying to write this. My boyfriend and I have had to move to an apartment, for financial reasons. The apartment doesn't allow pets, and none of the ones that allowed them in our general area were also in our price range :\ You can probably see where this is headed. The noise from our boy has led to multiple complaints now, and we're on the verge of our landlord's taking action. We're frightened of just advertising somewhere randomly to sell him, not only because that would be devastating, but because we don't want him in the hands of someone inexperienced or who might just pass him on to someone who might in turn do the same, etc.. Fosterparrots is beyond (once again) our financial restrictions. I have no idea what to do. Every option we've explored hasn't proven feasible. My boyfriend might move to the opposite coast for a while come next summer; I'll have to move somewhere even smaller until one of us joins the other, and will be even more stuck! Please don't chastise me for not having thought things out thoroughly before acquiring our Grey. We did. What we didn't count on was my becoming disabled and my boyfriend's having to change jobs. I'm posting this with my fingers crossed that someone who was in a similar situation can suggest something we haven't thought of yet
