  1. Hello Jay! My name is Kathy and I am new to the forums as well. However, unlike you I just got my TAG a week ago so I am new to everything. His name is Yuki, hes 4 months old and already spoiled. He would rather hang out on top of Bella's (my Quaker) cage than his own and has even started to follow me around. If I leave a room and he can't see me, he makes a squawk until I say his name and let him know I am still around. He likes to bite, although he does seem to be doing it less and less as the days progress. Since you are an experienced Grey owner, is there any advice you wanna share?
  2. Hello Drea - I was brought to tears reading the horrible condition that Rocky was in. Sounds like he wasn't far from death. There is no excuse for someone neglecting any animal, let alone a bird like that. I just wanted to say Thank you! People like you are what make the world a better place. I am happy to hear that Rocky is becoming well adjusted and more vibrant. I look forward to hearing many more stories about Rocky so please do share from time to time.
  3. Hello Cupid! Yep you are right. I got my Yuki from a breeder by the name Shel in Palm Bay
  4. What can I say but WOW! Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I read quite a bit last night in the forums about giving baths, talking, ect. There is so much to learn I feel as if though I am never going to learn it all! Yuki was very quite for the first couple of days here. However he seems to becoming out of his shell quite a bit. He started of making a few squeaks and now it is progressed into many noises. I read within the forum that the average age they begin to talk is around 1. Has anyone's Grey talked before then? Yuki seems to sporadically try to repeat words and he has said hello. However, he hasn't repeated it since. What is the earliest a Grey has talked? He also likes to bite. Though I have noticed him doing it less and less. I tell him Ow Yuki that hurts and he seems to stop. Any suggestions? He doesn't do it to be left alone because he often bites my finger to step on to it. Another thing Yuki likes to do it grab my finger and do what I call trying to swallow it. Does anyone know what he may be doing? After he "tries to swallow" it he lowers his head and wants a scratch. I will post more pics when I find my camera (my 3 year old hid it). Speaking of kids he seems to be doing quite well with them too.
  5. Hello! I like you was exchanging emails from a scammer. The ad I responded to said he was in homestead, fl (i'm in Orlando so homestead is only 2 hrs away) and when I contacted him, he made up some sob story about having to move to Arkansas because his wife is sick. Blah blah blah. I asked him if he shipped and what the cost would be if he did because crazy expensive is not in my budget. To which he quickly replied and asked how much I could afford. Needless to say I did not email him back. I did some more research and found the same bird advertised in multiple states for the same amount by the same owner. However, I finally got my baby July 23 and I found my African Grey on Hoobly.com and met in person with the breeder. When I first started searching for my loving pet, I did not know there are scams related to the sale of Greys out there. Needless to say I wised up quickly. Good luck on finding your little one and be weary of those who choose not to meet in person when it is an option.
  6. Hello Everyone! i am new here! I just got my very first African Grey (Timneh) on Saturday July 23. He was a gift from my husband for my 25th birthday (July 24). I was informed that he hatched at the end of March, so that makes him only 4 months old. I actually just got his DNA test results today that said he is a boy. I gave him the name Yuki which is Japanese for Happiness, good fortune, and snow. This name stuck with me after reading a lot of names on a website and their meanings. I look forward to many, many wonderful years with my Grey. I cannot wait to see all the wonderful things he can do. At the present he does not talk, but is trying to. Thanks for taking the time to read my story and I look forward to reading many of yours! Kathy
