Just thought I would post an update on my boys! They are doing really well, and actually like each other now! They will play together on their playstand with no fighting what so ever! They have been alot of fun! Shyloh's vocabulary continues to grow and Perry is just starting to make his own happy noises and attack the toy noises!

My CAG loves to punch holes in my mini blinds with his beak!

I have a ninja, they are great! I've made everything from smoothies (it chops ice beautifully) to bird meals with it! And yes, the do wash amazingly well! I've had one for 2 years now, still works like it was brand new! ENJOY!

I have a hoover...I love it...It has an "auto" setting, so when my birds flap around a bunch, it kicks up on it's own as it has detected the dust and such, then it will go back to a lower setting. It has lights so you can see what setting it is on without getting close...it has on ionizer that produces no ozone and you can either turn it on or off, and has a UV light to help with germs and such.

I am a new owner myself, so I won't give advice, just tell you a similar situation I had and how it worked out...I re-homed a 3 year old CAG and baby CAG before I went on a week long vacation...The older bird I had home for just shy of 2 months and the baby, just shy of a month...I took them both to the breeder where I purchased my baby for her to "bird sit" while I was gone. Things worked out wonderfully for me...My breeder told me that getting the babies used to different situations is actually good for them, gets them to be less nervous and less likely to be upset over new things. (before I brought my baby home, the breeder had also taken him to bird shows) and he is a very happy boy and he couldn't care less about changes in his environment. My 3 year old did just fine also, no problems... Good luck with what ever choice you make!

Shyloh likes to mock me when I am on the phone...he says things like "ya, uh-huh, ok, sure" it's pretty funny!

We had 3 to 4 foot Bull snakes in the basement of our last house, needless to say, WE MOVED OUT! ICK!

If I could have found a senegal breeder before I ended up with 2 greys, I would have had one and one grey...but I ran across a grey that needed re-homed before I found a breeder, so for now, I just have to admire other peoples sennies, so thank you for the pictures and stories, I think they are wonderful birds! Maybe someday!

Hello! Thank you for the warm welcome!

I am from nebraska as well! Welcome, I am new myself and have found a ton of help and kind words on this site...enjoy! -
Merlin, I think a good question or thing to check into as you are looking for a breeder would be to find out if the breeder forced to wean or if they are abundantly fed and wean on their own terms...My baby was abundantly weaned and was about 4 months old when I got him, and I had no issues with him eating enough of his pellets or soft food when I got him. Also my breeder was one that makes sure the birds have a chance to fledge before they go home, she said it helps with the weaning process and helps to get a more confident bird.

I've had my baby home for a couple of weeks now, and when I went to see him at the breeders he would come see me to say hello, then be off on his merry way too. If I tried to force the issue of holding him and making him spend time with me, he would nip at my fingers til I let him down. So I thought the same as you about finding a better match, however...I am really happy I didn't! The first few days at home were pretty ruff, Perry didn't want to step up, or come anywhere near me, would give me the "come any closer and i'm gonna bite you" look, but now he is the sweetest and a very cuddly guy (at least for a few minutes at a time several times a day). I think that you will find all the love you are looking for out of your gracie too, after she comes home and gets adjusted, as you will be the only one she is familiar with.

I recently re-homed a 3 year old CAG and purchased a baby CAG all in about a months time...I just thought I would tell you some differences I had between the two My 3 year old has his ways/habbits and that hard thing about that is that I don't know all of them. He steps up and down when asked. He doesn't eat veggies or mash well at all, only pellets. He will bite, hard! He talks and makes noises already. He is also very agile with climbing on the cage and playstand, gets around wonderfully! My baby is still impressionable, he is still learning. Does not know what step up or down means, I have to still teach him that, and I have never owned a parrot before, so this has been a learning experience for me too. He does eat his mash and things very well, but my breeder warned and explained how to watch his poop to make sure he is getting enough to eat and sent me home formula in case I felt he needed it ( and that is kinda scary for someone who has never done it before, I think) He will explore with his beak, but it doesn't hurt. He is still clumbsy, has falled form his perches and I worry about him getting hurt. I love both my birds and wouldn't give them up for anything, but each has an up/down side... I wish you lots of luck in your choice, and enjoy whichever one you end up with!

The 3 year old grey I re-homed had never had a veggie before I got him, only pellets and some grapes....tried a mixed soft food diet and he would not touch it...I made new every day, then I started to blend it to a chunky mash, and added a bunch of apple, grapes and blueberries, also some red orange and yellow bell peppers, and he actually tried it, now, I found that as long as I added apples, blueberries or grapes to it, he would pick through it, and now, he looks forward to it. He doesn't eat it all yet, but it is going way better now than even a week ago. I also found it helps to feed it to them first thing in the morning, before giving fresh pellets. Good luck, it's a process and there will be a bunch of waste, I guess that goes along with it.

Perry is about 4 months old.

Well, this morning is going well for Perry, he is playing and he dug right into his fresh food mix I prepared for him. Shyloh seems oblivious to his arrival, even though I did introduce them through the bars of the cage, neither could have cared less.
-
I have been waiting for this day for what seems like forever, and it has finally come! Perry is home! He was supposed to be my one and only, but he will join Shyloh, my re-homed 3 year old CAG. He seems to be getting along ok here, he is playing with his toys (or rather attacking them) and exploring his new cage. He did make a hiss sound at me one of the times I went to stick my hand in, but I let him be for a bit, then tried again and he stepped up with no issues. Gonna take it nice and slow and let him get adjusted to the new surroundings. I am on cloud 9!
-
Wow, just in the past couple of days..Shyloh has been saying new words and even some phrases! He speaks quietly until he gets it right, then will say them more loudly! He says, "what'cha doin'", "Hello" and "what a good bird", just to name a few that I heard just minutes ago! He says more and tries new ones all the time! I am so very thrilled with this! My kids have also been enjoying teaching him new sounds. If he's in his chatty mood, when the phone rings, he will ring too! It's great!

POLL: Who clips or doesn't clip their birds wings?
jodi_odo replied to kingsnake's topic in The GREY Lounge
I am new to owning parrots, I have owned poultry and have clipped wings on them before...I got my re-homed grey Shyloh and his feathers have just come back (for the most part) from his last clip, and he is taking some small trips flying around the house... I rather enjoy this, and he doesn't land very gracefully now, I can't imagine how he'd crash and burn if he was clipped again. The gal I got him from said that after he was clipped he would crash into the floor or walls and end up with lumps and bumps all over his head, so NO THANKS, I will leave him flighted as long as it's in his best interest. I am also waiting the arrival of my new baby CAG as well, my breeder suggested that I leave him flighted unless I just can't stand it, so that is what I intend to do with him as well. -
I am paying $900 for my CAG here in Nebraska...I don't have him yet, but I couldn't be happier with everything this far!
-
I can't hardly wait to bring home my baby and hear all the wonderful new sounds he might come up with! I loved this video! Only a couple more weeks to wait here!
-
I re-homed a 3 year old CAG that I was told didn't speak! Well, guess what, he does now! He has said "peek-a-boo" and today he said "Hi Shyloh"! I've only had him home about a week and he has been a complete delight! He does several whistles and mimics noises as well as kissing sounds! I am very happy with him, he has been a wonderful bird so far!

Oh my gosh, he is sooo cute!

I don't find so much that people think I'm nuts, it's more having trouble of finding someone to talk to that understands. I love to talk about my grey and I can tell that the pour soul I am talking to really could care less!
