  1. There is always food in his cage for him in multiple locations and water as well. Usually I take the bowls out and either set them on the bed or somewhere else for him when he is out of his cage and back always when he is back in the cage. When I am home, he is out of the cage almost all of the time. He doesn't like being in his cage very much especially if I am in the room as well.
  2. I posted a new thread with pictures http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?193462-Albert-Update&p=233091#post233091
  3. Here are some pictures of Albert. He was hatched on 4/4 and is still on one hand feeding a day. He is doing great and loves to tear things apart. He doesn't like to eat while in his cage during the day while I am at work so I am trying to figure out ways to make him eat. He prefers to eat on my bed with his dishes there (his cage is in my bedroom). Is there any downsides to letting him do this? Also, does anyone have any recommendations on getting him to eat during the day in his cage? He is the sweetest bird and loves to get attention and get scratched.
  4. Just thought I would update here that he is back to full health and is doing wonderfully. He is eating a ton and trying new things everyday. Thanks for all the help!
  5. I think he is getting better as far as his appetite is concerned. He ate a bunch of apple and bean cuisine last night. I think I have been spoiling him with the seeds as he doesn't want to eat his pellets anymore so I am reducing that and hope he starts eating his pellets again. I still have an appointment for tomorrow morning and if his voice has not improved tonight when I get home from work, I will make sure to take him in again.
  6. Body temp seems normal. He was pretty active tonight but still isn't eating as much as he normally had been. He just doesn't seem to have as much of an appetite. I was able to get him interested in some beans and an apple. He always want to eat nuts but I am trying not to give him too many. Does anyone else have experience with a parrot losing/having a raspy voice?
  7. Thank you for the advice! Is there a specific symptom I would be looking for that would mean an infection?
  8. Thanks for your reply. I didn't know all of that about their immunity. I have been disinfecting and washing everything that I use for feeding/food as well as cage etc. I should have an air purifier delivered today so I hope that helps and I went ahead and made a vet appointment for sat morning if he is not getting better by then. Does the raspy/congested throat always mean an infection?
  9. I have had my grey for 2 weeks now, he is 15 weeks old. I took him to the vet last friday and he got a clean bill of health. Last weekend my brother was cleaning and kicked up too much dust near the room Albert (my CAG) was in. That night, he developed a somewhat raspy voice. Other than the voice thing, he has been acting normal all week until the last day or two. I have noticed that his appetite has somewhat diminished, he prefers to only eat the nuts that I give him as a treat and not the pellets also, he isn't taking much for formula as I have him on one feeding per day. I called and talked to the vet a couple of days ago and she said that it was probably the dust and if it doesn't get better by the end of the week, that I should maybe make an appointment again. Does this happen to anyone else's bird? I just want to see if this voice problem will get better on its own. I should probably also mention that he has no other signs of illness (nares, droppings, etc) Thanks, Joe
  10. Thank you so much for the responses. As of right now, I don't think it will be possible to have it in the living room or family room. I might be able to do some convincing of my mom to let me but right now those are the two options. I would really rather have the cage in my bedroom however I have read that they need solid sleep without being waken up. Would it be too disturbing for the birds sleep to be in my room? When I am home, the bird will be out of its cage on one of multiple playstands or with me.
  11. I will be getting my first CAG in July and have everything I need for it. I say it because I still do not know the sex yet. I do have one question about where to place my cage. I work 8 hours a day during the week so the bird will have to be in there for that time. I purchased a 40x30 dometop cage so it should be plenty big for the bird to be in there all day. I have two options for cage placement, I can either put it in a unfinished basement, which I am kind of leery about as there are some spiders and I would feel bad as it is kind of depressing down there or I can put it in my bedroom. Sorry for the long sentences. Which would be the better choice? Thanks, Joe
