2. Hi everyone, it's been a while... Squeaky is about ready for his wings to be clipped. I just have a few questions...can you ever use your celing fan while your bird's flighted? Also, what about them flying away, is there a risk of them just flying out the door when it's open? I have small children who like to leave the doors open, which is why I ask. Thanks!!:woohoo:
3. :silly: Hi there, I bought a great training program called Taming, Training, and Tricks, and I love it. It gives several great tips. I can't yet handle my parrot, but we've gotten much closer, and I have a great road map to train him to want to step up, etc. I've heard that there are many training programs which do not work, but I think this one's pretty good.
4. Thanks FairY, I am definitely in control now, he even climbs off of his cage just to come and see me (or, probably to see if I have any snacks fo him!). Have you ever used a training program on your bird (how many greys do you have)? Thanks! Treva
5. Hi all, I bought a new training program, Taming, Training and Tricks. I advises that you start your bird on a training diet, consisting of pellets, and allow them to get hungry in order for them to want treats for training everyday. Squeaky is very attentive to me now (because I'm his source of treats), but how humane is it to not leave food out? I just feel a bit guilty letting him get hungry.
6. I think Squeaky is biting just because he's being mean! He goes into attack mode anytime he sees my hand, but if I ask him for a kiss, he'll kiss with out biting, and if I put my head up to the cage, he loves to prene my hair. If I am holding him away from his cage, he doesn't try to bite my at all. what's going on???!!!
7. How often is it that a COG doesn't ever talk? That isn't a all the only reason that I got him, but it is something that I'm looking forward to, I've just heard that not all talk, although, he did bark at my mom the other day :-D
8. so, it's been 2 weeks since we brought our new baby Squeaky home. As you know, it was rough going for the first few days, he got stuck in the break peddles on the way home, wanted to chew me up a few days later, but now he seems to have come around, and is the biggest cuddle bug ever! I had no idea it would happen so soon! Now if he'd only talk...
9. Welcome, I'm new too, isn't it fun having a new baby?!! I've had my Squeaky for two weeks now, and we're having a really good time
10. Thanks FairY, I kept at it today, and didn't let his biting intimidate me, and he has calmed down significantly. We were even able to cuddle (he was snuggled right up to me, and didn't even try to get away!) for a good hour or so, until he pooped on me :-D.
11. Squeaky is suddenly biting me every time I get near him!! What can I do? He won't let me pet him at all, I'm not sure what to do
12. This is great, my Squeaky just started a new biting habit. He had rarely, if ever, bit anyone before I bought him, but now he thinks my hand is a rawhide bone, nd attacks it every time I try to pet him! Fortunatelly, he's not hurting me too bad, and I'm a wimp! I've had him for a week and two days now, and Qweevox's advice has been very informative for me too, so thanks!!
13. Your pet shop story is wonderful! How long have you had your Grey? I am so excited about the relationship that is sure to come, just wish it would've come yesterday!!! Anyway, thank's for all of the support! Also, BBlack, I love the name Petrie! If I would have seen that name posted before I got Squeaky (my 5 yr. old named him ), I would have stolen it myself !
14. You know, now that I know better (through research), I'm a bit disappointed in our breeder's behavior. She told me to just put him in a paper bag to bring him home. Well, to me that was absurd, I wouldn't put my bird in a bag! I didn't realize that I needed a box for him until after the fact. So, this breeder just told me to let him sit on anything that I could find as a perch (we used a toy hockey stick). Well, that worked for a while, until we had to stop! Had I known then what I've found ot now, things would have gone a lot smoother . I'm just disappointed that she didn't seem to worry about my poor Squeaky getting traumatized. Well, I think he's coming around a bit more today, he's not walking away, or dodging me when I try to pet him . As I posted in my Newbie Question, I'm just taking a break from working with him, and spoiling him like crazy!

Post edited by: gery, at: 2007/01/30 09:16
15. Thanks Qweevox, he didn't shy away today when I went to pethim, so at least we're making progress (and he doesn't seem to hate me!). I'm not even having him step up onto a stick right now, I'm just letting him relax, I'm letting him take a break and just be spoiled for a while . When would you suggest I try working on steppng up with him agin? Thanks for the encouragement!
