  1. So basically you are all telling me Shit Happens LOL. I guess I will just have to work on my technique, I am always smooshing it into the carpert and then it is a real mess. Thanks for the help, I really thought I was missing something!
  2. I am always amazed so many people let there birds roam around the house. The obvious question to me is how do you keep everything from getting pooped on? My fids are still babies Kenya CAG 12 weeks and Samba Sun Conure 4 months but they seem to go on everything! Any pointers???
  3. Question for all you multiple bird owners. My sun conure and CAG really seem to get along, always preening each other, falling asleep together, feeding each other, etc. My question is do birds play fight each other? They seem to have little disagreements and kind of bite beaks every once in a while it seems like my sun conure is putting her little sister in her place. It is always resolved after a second and they go on like normal, but how do I know if this is bird agression or normal behavior. I always supervise them but they like to go into each others cages and I don't know when I should jump in and when I should leave them alone to work out there differences. My sun conure loves to play fight with me but I am not sure if it is normal bird play? Do clutch mates play fight? They are only about 1 month apart in age and both babies but I would hate for this to go wrong and my CAG to seriously injure my sun.
  4. Maybe the vibrate thing is a growl and not a cry. That was actually the first noise I heard her make she did it the whole way home from the breeder. Kenya kind of makes noises that remind me of a turkey, gobble gobble, garble garble.
  5. Just wondering what normal baby sounds are. Kenya is 10 weeks old and does alot of soft mumbling and gurgling sounds. She also occasionally does this thing that sounds like a cell phone sitting on someones desk on extra loud vibrate; is this crying? What type of sounds do your babies make?
  6. I think my fingers are too short! If I offer my hand should it be flat palm down or a fist sideways??? She is only about 10 weeks so I am sure we are going to get it together eventually. OK I am work with nothing else to do and I just measured my index finger it is only 2 1/2 inches and she is a Congo so I don't think that is going to work!
  7. Hi, I am not sure what body part to offer Kenya to step up on. I have little hands and she seems to want her feet flat on somehting, but won't step towards my arm. She can perch in her cage but when I pick her up she usually uses her beak to pull herself up (ouch) and then stands on top of my boob with her head in my neck. This is not working for me and I am pretty sure that is definitely not the part you are supposed to offer LOL. Any suggestions?
  8. Kenya definitely enjoys it, she always seems like she is listening very intently.
  9. Hello, I was just wondering if any of you read to your Grey and if you think it helps with learning? I have to read alot for school and my children also need reading time, so I have been trying to include Kenya. We all know reading helps the language ability of humans do you think it helps with Greys?
  10. Dan I can't seem to get a mental pic of that, the bottom of the box is cut out and resting on the grate at the bottom of the cage? What is the trowel for? Is there a door cut into it? Thanks
  11. Thanks Dave! Any good veggies to try, all we have done is the peas. Here are some pics of what she looks like after a feeding.
  12. Hello All, Kenya is now approximately 8-9 weeks old(judging from pics on this site)and I am handfeeding her. I am a little worried that her crop doesn't seem to get as full and bulge as much anymore. Is this normal? She also doesn't seem to want to eat as much anymore but it seems like she is a little young to be weaning herself doesn't it. She eats the dry pellets but won't touch the soft ones. I have also given her peas, wheat pasta, oatmeal and organic baby food(applesauce, yams, and bananas) all of which she loved. She is on 3 feedings should I cut one of them? Do I need to make sure her crop looks all big and round like it used to? Someone please help.
  13. More questions from the newbie!!! My sun conure constantly wants to be with Kenya, preen her, sleep with her, try to feed her, etc. Kenya is loving this right now and last night they slept all night together in her box, my conure is only about 3 months old. Anyway should I be allowing this? Do I need to limit their interactions? Could this turn bad or since they are young should they continue to get along? Oh and they also want to spend alot of time cuddled up with my Chihuahuas is that normal??
  14. Judy, How do Sunny and Josey get along? My sun conure and african grey are still babies but I dont' know if I should be concerned with them being so close all the time. When Samba my sun conure is out of her cage she goes right to baby Kenya and preens her and they cuddle up and go to sleep together. Samba also is attempting to feed her(not sure if she is actually getting anything). Do you think this might cause problems later?
  15. Ok I will wait, I have just been wiping her off with a warm paper towel after her feedings. She is so cute she tries to preen herself but then tips over. Luckily her big sister Samba the sun conure is helping her out.
  16. Thank you, I guess I am just happy she is with me now and I can take good care of her. That is one big kitty you have!
  17. What age can I give my baby her first bath? I don't want to get her sick but she has a strange odor to her. She is about 6 weeks now. Thanks.
  18. Wow that is a huge difference. Shelby is beautiful. I knew something was off when started to look at all the pics that show from hatching to 12 weeks. The breeder had two more birds that he said were 11 weeks and now I am figuring they were about 8 weeks, he actually convinced me to take the younger one because he said there would be a better chance she would accept my sun conure as a friend. Now I am wondering how old my sun conure is since I got her from the same breeder when she was "8 weeks".
  19. What did you feed Spock? He looks like he was a full and happy baby! Did he sleep on that rolled up towel? I think my sun conure is feeding Kenya is that a bad thing? It is funny because she is still a baby herself but has been preening and trying to feed the new baby.
  20. I can't believe the breeder would straight out lie like that! I guess anything for $$$$. I thickened the formula up and she is much more active, I think she must have been hungry before. I put rubber mats all over the bottom of the cage so she can walk around and she is busy exploring. Thanks again for all your help.
  21. Hi, It is great to hear back from you(one of the other members actually refered me to your post on handfeeding). Kenya is alert and makes noises quite a bit and takes naps in between. She makes purring type of noise and kind of a low mooing, mixed in with other sounds. I see her peaking out at me and she is stomping her big feet around and flapping her wings a little. My sun conure is assisting with the cuddles and preening when she feels like it and I put some toys on one side of her box that she nibbles on. I have been holding her and laying a blanket on the floor and getting down on it with her and she seems to like that. I live in southern California but we have been having some colder than normal temps so when if feels too cold I put a heating bad under one side of her box. I think I need to thicken the formula up a little and I will add in another feeding because at this point I am sure she is not the 8 weeks that the breeder told me! Here are some pics, please help me out with possible age. Thanks again for all your advice believe me I will do everything I can to make sure she is healthy and loved. With my kids I always called my Mom when I had questions and with my Fids I hopefully can rely on you and the other members of this forum.
  22. I do have a little experience, I hand fed my sun conure Samba for about a month. I have been giving her about 35 ml 3x a day, her cusp is emptying by the next feeding and I am being very careful with the temp. I am keeping her under a 35 watt light like the breeder told me to, but I would definitely appreciate any advice you can give me. Thx
  23. I hope not, he told me almost 8 weeks! I was thinking maybe like 6, but it is scary not knowing for sure.
  24. Hello, Here are some pics of my new baby Kenya. I think the breeder may have lied about her age, can anyone give me an educated guess on her age. Thanks
