  1. I leave the door of their cage open most of the time too because they can open it anyways! So maybe they still have that sense of freedom. I might put the other cage in there again just to see if they chose to move on their own. Was Sophie already talking when you got her?
  2. I think they believe that my bed it their personal territory! Lately when I leave the room I will find them both standing next to each other on my pillow, never my husbands just my side of the bed! I will put the other cage in the bird room and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.
  3. How do I decide who gets booted from the current cage to the new one?
  4. They spend at least 3 or 4 hours a day out of the cage, but usually that time is spent together too. They hang out on top of the cage, on the back of the kitchen chairs when I cook, in the shower with me, and on the playstand in my bedroom. I let them sleep on the playstand in my room sometimes and they just go to different perches. In the cage the conure sleeps in a happy hut and the CAG on a perch. My CAG is more of night owl so many times she will leave the Conure in her happy hut and walk into my room. They have no problem opening their cage and getting out, I tried to sleep late last weekend and the CAG came in the room, climbed ont he bed and was very gently nudging my face with her beak to wake me up. The cage is in a closed in porch area off the back of the kitchen and when they escape they usually just sit on the top playstand together, so it doesn't seem like they even want to be away from each other. My CAG doesn't say anything yet just makes sounds and whistles so I was thinking that was the issue or maybe she just isn't a talker. However if it makes them happier I don't really care if she talks. Maybe I will just put another cage in there and leave the doors open to both and see what happens.
  5. Hi everyone. My CAG and Sun Conure are about 1 1/2 years old now and still in the same cage. I got my conure first and about a month later my CAG, I handfed both and have never separated them. My first question is will they let me know when its time to get them their own cages? Is there any harm in allowing them to be together? I also have been wondering if this will limit my CAG's human language development because she has someone to speak parrot to? They are both definitely more bonded to me than each other, but they don't fight and even sometimes still feed each other.
  6. Ok so distraction sounds like my best option. I will make sure to try that the next time.
  7. How am I supposed to deal with my bird latching on with a bite and not letting go. I know you are supposed to not react but it hurts so bad. She got my bottom lip last night and I was scared to pull away because I didn't want my lip ripped off. She never gets me hard enough to draw blood and I am sure she could if she wanted to, but I need to know how to get her to release the bite. After I got away last night I promptly put her on her stand and ignored her and today I have a huge welt on my lip! Can someone help me please, I am starting to get scared.
  8. Dave- At what age do they generally stop wanting cuddles and scratches all the time???? I am going to miss that!
  9. Your English is perfect! That is a fine idea but I would expand on it and give Gandalf a large variety of words and phrases. They also love music and sounds, I always try to leave a tv or radio on for my birds while I am at work.
  10. Kenya is about 6 months old now and I need some help. She is not biting but she grabs on to my skin to hold on or to pull herself up. She never breaks the skin just gives me pinch marks but it HURTS. Any suggestions how to get her to stop?
  11. I tried to not act disgusted. I didn't want to hurt her feelings!
  12. I reached in Kenya's cage this morning to put some treats in her bowl and all of a sudden I felt something warm and slimy on my hand. I looked and it was clear like saliva. Is this regurgitation? Not to be gross but I always excpected food chunks in it.
  13. I am just pondering. My Chihuahua just had a litter of puppies that both died, she really didn't seem to care. Anyway is got me thinking about how smart grey's are and I have read they have incredible memories. Don't mind me I am a psych student so I like to torture myself with these questions.
  14. Hi, Do you think that baby grey's miss their breeder and/or clutch mates when they join their new flocks? I was thinking about when you breed puppies they just happily go to their new owners without a care in the world but grey's are so different. I wonder if their incredible intelligence and memory make it harder on them to go from breeder to new family. Please let me know your thoughts on the matter, maybe I am just giving greys human emotions.
  15. LMAO, it will probably be me who has a 10 year old grey that is being handfed. I guess the lesson here is to pay more attention to what she is telling me.
