Hi there, I was curious if you'd sold tis yet and if you'd consider lowering your asking price? I've recently had a rescued grey basically show up on my door step and he's desperately in need up an upgrade. I live out in Lancaster so I'm not terribly far way from you! Thanks! -
I luckily don't have any issues with bob chewing wires or things he shouldn't. He generally never leaves his designated play zone. All of the concerns are things I never really thought of because he's usually very good. I don't see our routine changing but it's always stuff to be aware of and I appreciate the cautions. Eshana, I don't have any visible free wires about in the bedroom where he is free, everything is contained. My stove does have those unusual warm spots but not hot and he never comes into the kitchen without me. Bob is always wonderful about his toys (probably because he has so many) and doesn't bother other things. He has become so accustomed to his two major play areas and sticks to them like glue if he isn't with me.

Hi Everyone! This is more of a curiosity question.....how many of you "lock" your birds in? It feels like a silly question asking but I've found over the past few weeks I never lock Bob in his cage and it hasn't been an issue, I wonder how many others do this? Background here....I live in an apt where it's basically two main rooms. SO Bob has his cage in my bedroom completely adapted to be a jungle gym inside and out and then a lovely homemade PVC stand in his bed room. He always stays on his "post" and plays with his own things.... I've also begun to wonder if I shouldn't do this? Sometimes he doesn't go in his cage to sleep and I worry about him but he seems just as content to sleep on top. Stories, insight?

I don't believe there's ever a point where they stop learning new words. It's fascinating what noises and sounds they pick up but I believe it's purely interest based. My grey Bob heard the sounds of a "Trouble" game once (the plastic pop) and does it all the time now but other things he just wont repeat. But I remember when he heard the Trouble game he was so intently watching and listening I wasn't surprised to be hearing it the next day!

Well the update! Neither of the two birds ended up coming to reside with me. I was able to help and I'm very happy. Both birds were brought to me and spent the weekend with Bob (my CAG) at my parents house. After a long weekend together Bob totally rejected the idea of a house mate and luckily my mom found a spot in her heart for one of the two. The other was a lucky duck as well and I was able to touch base with someone who was looking to purchase a parrot and was excited at a rescue chance. I'm happy to say it's been a couple of weeks and both birds have settled in well and are quite happy as single parrots with new parents! Bob is happy as an only child....

That's a wonderful idea! I'd love to know what kind of dye you use? I've been working to cut my own pieces of wood and making toys but had never thought of dying on my own!

I wish you the very best luck finding a new home for your friend, he sounds wonderful. This is a very random offer but if you end up in a predicament and need a temporary place I offer my assistance. I have a CAG of my own and understand the pressures you face with little funds and a small house! Good luck! -
When I brought my rescue grey home he didn't touch anything new for almost 2 months and took more than that for him to feel comfortable climbing around his cage. It all depends on the bird. He seems quite happy just spending time with you now! He'll grow into them!

Hello Everyone, I've been doing some looking around for a harness/leash for my CAG Bob. He's six and as far as I know never worn anything like this. Anyway, he's becoming increasingly more social and I'd like to start taking him places with me but would feel more comfortable with a harness of some sort since he is fully flighted. I stumbled across Flight Suits and they seem like a wonderful idea (due to the poop catching abilities) but I'm curious how successful they are and how the birds tend to adapt to them. I would worry well A about getting it on him and B how much it'll bother him.....will he pick at it constantly? will he start picking at himself because he doesn't like the feeling? Any advice is helpful! Or stories of trying them with your own birds?

I don't have a PVC stand but I put a tension shower curtain rod in the shower and he hangs out on that. He hates the water so i have it off to the side so he gets a light misting everyday. I considered buying one of the suction cup type perches but was a little afraid of it constantly falling or something.

Just an update! The two new birds arrived today and seem to be settling in well. They'll need some toy and cage upgrades! Bob is very intrigued by the new noises he hears so I am optimistic he'll be happy to have house mates to chatter with while I am away.

Hello! Don't let what you read scare you. Yes, grey's are social birds but I honestly believe it depends on the grey. Bob (my CAG) is an only bird and he's not angry or anxious. He's always happy to see me when I come home and I make note to spend a little extra time saying hello to him (versus the dogs). I believe it all depends on how you set your routine and the personality your grey has. I'm lucky to have Bob, he's very laid back and is happy to play with his toys. Friends laugh because he has SO many toys (and a back up bin) and I rotate them a little more than necessary to keep him happy and busy while he's in his cage. So don't get yourself down!

Thanks everyone! I definitely am in the market for new "puzzle" toys for him, just wasn't sure where to start!

Has anyone ever bought one of these? I've found only one review and it was negative saying the holes didn't line up properly on the one they received. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5059+5648+16444+23036&pcatid=23036

Hello, I always seem to get myself in these situations....A woman who I know through the veterinary clinic I work at mentioned to me she's currently in a divorce situation and her husband has kicked her out and she has opted to rehome her two parrots. A sun conure and red-bellied parrot. Both are 10 years old. Anyway, to shorten the story, I gave her my number in case she ran into an emergency and told her I may be able to help find new homes for them. I'm nervous (and this is extremely likely) she's going to call and need me to take them temporarily until we find them new places. Now where the advice is needed. Bob my CAG and I have been together since Feb and I've come to know him very well but no experience with him around other birds. I know I'm going to need to quarantine for a while but if it comes to it how do I introduce them. Do they just get separate play times? Will they be ok together eventually? I know Bob lived with a maroon bellied conure before he came to me but I don't think they really spent "out" time together.... I just am trying to prepare myself in case they end up needing to come to me.... Thank you!
