  1. I was quite surprised one day when Yogi picked up a shed feather, chewed on the end of it, then used it to scratch with!!
  2. Go Hawks! Really small world Ali....my oldest daughter lives in El Mirage, I was in Phoenix in October to meet my first grandchild!!!
  3. Thank you. I miss him so much, he was a great kitty! I see you are in Croatia. My daughter studied at the Miami University (of Ohio) European Center in Luxembourg her senior year. One of her favorite places to visit was Dubrovnik. She spent time there on several of her school holidays and she plans on taking me there to vacation one day.
  4. OOPS! Forgot about rotating the pictures. Will work on that next time......sorry! Found one more of Biscuit, my favorite pic of him.
  5. Here are a couple of Biscuit and Rascal. They loved to look out the window at the squirrels. It was olympic level kitty wrestling in our house every night. They would hide and leap out at each other from all over the house. Rascal would roll onto his back and just taunt Biscuit until he would pounce on him, then Rascal would flip him over with his legs.
  6. This is Rocky, my little Jenday. He is a character. He loves to play, he enjoys chasing the cat as well. When he gets tired he loves to lie in my hand and take a nap.
  7. Morana, Biscuit had cancer and we had to let him go as he was beginning to experience quite a bit of pain. I do keep an eye on the gang when everyone is out and about in the house, and Yogi and Rocky are always back to their cages if I go outside. Sherrie, Yogi is a BRAT today, LOL!!!! Into everything, just like a bored toddler who needs a nap. He's currently destroying his new TP tube toy I just made for him.
  8. I posted in the welcome section about my Yogi making up his first sentence. What really blew me away was that the sentence he made implies that he knows who he is, what his toes are and that they taste good! He knows the cat (at one time we had two and he knew, and called each of them by the correct name consistently) and he can tell by what i am wearing whether it is a work day or a stay at home day. Before I brought Yogi home as a newly weaned baby I did a lot of reading and research into how to rear this little guy and how to help him reach his full potential! He is your classic 3 year old. Prone to tantrums, spoiled, manipulating, curious and very quick to learn, and I just love him!!!!
  9. I was a temporary foster mom for an older DYH Amazon a few years ago. The behaviour was much the same as your Twizzle. I started by moving the cage over by my chair while watching TV or reading and just leaving the cage door open. I'd put a few little snacks on a plate (a grape, piece of cheese, some nuts) on a plate on the arm of the chair and then just ignore Mickey. Curiosity won out and he would come out and climb over onto the chair arm and grab a snack and go back. After a week or so of this I would hold a treat up for him and he would take it from me and go back, another week or so and he was climbing onto the arm of the chair and sitting comfortably next to me. Finally I put my hand out for him to step up and he took the plunge. I knew it was going to be difficult as Mickey was not fond of women and had bitten my friend's wife quite severely (hence his needing to be re homed). He had been an only bird, and it was "just the guys" for years. When my friend married Mickey took an instant dislike to his wife. Mickey and I got along well for the time he was with me and now has two new "Daddies" that he is very happy with. It just takes time!! You'll win him over.
  10. I posted a some pictures and more info in the welcome room under "newly hatched". I got Yogi "out of the egg" so to speak. He was almost weaned when he came home with me and I finished up the last couple of weeks. Bites and temper tantrums aside, he is such a joy.
  11. Rascal is the strangest cat. He has not shown the slightest interest in having bird snacks. He will occasionally try to stroke a tail with his foot or rub his head on Yogi but thats it. Yogi is fully flighted and quite the little aviator. He will spot rascal across the room and dive bomb him, land, call "here kitty kitty" and fly back to his cage. Meanwhile poor Rascal is running for cover.
  12. Until just a month ago I had two cats. Rascal and Biscuit. Biscuit was a grey cat and Yogi knew which cat was which. I used to take them to him and pat them on the head while saying each cat's name. It wasn't long before he was saying Biscuit and Rascal. When he called them, if Biscuit showed up he would then call for Rascal, but stop calling Biscuit. Both cats would come when he called. Yogi knows I am "mama" (he calls me frequently, LOL) and knows his fruits and veggies (he will ask for them by name and if you don't give him what he says, he'll throw what you give him on the floor) and that his toes taste like chicken. He learned his name early on, and then we moved on to body parts. He'll lift a foot when you ask to see his toes, and when he did that I used to "nibble" at them and say "mmmm, tastes like chicken.." About a month ago he was sitting on top of his cage chattering like he does, there was a brief moment of silence, then quite plainly said "Yogi toes taste like chicken" I'd never used that sentence with him! He put that together himself, and I'm quite amazed. He can differentiate where I'm going by how I'm dressed when I tell him "Gotta go". If I'm in scrubs he'll say "gotta go to work" if its jeans he simply says "gotta go bye bye...."
  13. Yogi and Rascal sitting on the sofa. I heard a racket and came in to find the two of them sitting on the back of the sofa, Yogi yelling "Hey, hey" at the squirrels outside of the window!!! Yogi just loves Rascal and you can frequently hear him calling, "Rascal, hey Rascal, here kitty kitty, come here!"
  14. Thank you all. Yogi is actually sitting on a friend's head in that photo. (we cropped it a bit) Dan is from Scotland and he and Yogi hit it off beautifully, and he (Dan) became one of Yogi's favorite perching spots.
  15. Only have a minute, just wanted to say Hi everyone! I'm Leah from Ohio and the house servant for Yogi the TAG, Rocky the Jenday and Rascal the cat. Yogi is 3, Rocky 9, and Rascal is 7. Looking forward to getting to know you!
  16. Ahh, I've found a home. My 3 year old TAG, Yogi, is a bit of a brat. I usually come in from work, let him out, change my clothes and then sit and relax a bit. He'll survey his territory then fly over to sit with me. Well, the other day I had an urgent call and I came into the house, opened his door, went to my bedroom, changed clothes and came out to the kitchen. I was on my cell and preparing to heat some water for a cup of tea when he flew over and when he couldn't get to my shoulder he landed briefly on my back and bit my neck!!!!!!!! He then flew back to his cage. I let out a very loud "ouch" followed by a couple of things not to be repeated here. As I approached his cage (still with my cell) and gave him the "dirty look" and a stern "no bites!!!" he proceeded to puff up and give me the flashy eyes!! I went back to the sink and the little monster flew over and BIT ME AGAIN!!!! Not all the way through, but enough to leave a mark. I'm ferociously scolding the little bugger (all the while my friend is laughing hysterically on the phone) and dear Yogi just gives me the "who me? I'm a good birdie" look. He's nipped before, and sometimes "tests the perch" aka my finger a little hard, but never anything like this. He actually hovered for a bit above my head and then dove in for the bite. I gave him an in cage time out, along with some very severe mad faces, and when the pouting was done (mine) we made up. He's been fine since, but it reminds me of the angry toddler who kicks you in the leg when you're on the phone and not paying enough attention to him. I think I have created a monster, LOL!!!!!
