Hi Guys, Wonder if you can help, Wallace has now become very attached to us (especially me) and the problem I have is that the second I leave the room, sqwaking begins even if I am just going into the kitchen or to the bathroom and when i go to work in the evenings wallace just wont stop sqwaking (driving the misssus nuts) We have tried ignoring it and it seems that wallace just does not get bored of it , we don't shout or get angry as this just induces it as fun to do, we have tried rewarding good noises and nice behavior but how can i attempt to get wallace to be quiet when I am not in the room? I am tempted to try using a water pistol when the nasty nooise is made and a piece of nut when they good noises are made to reenforce nice to nice and naughty to naughty as I am down to last resorts any help anyone?

Eating in front of Wallace seems to be working well, it is more introducing new things to him, he now has a few things under his belt, we like .... sweet potato (favourite), apple, butternut squash, a little brocolli, a bit of kale, wholewheat rice (only a teeny bit), wholewheat pasta (teeny bit too), orange and potato. We are currently working on carrots! oh and we love corn on the cob, (and anything else that I can stick to the cob lol) Bizarely the one thing I thought he would love he hates! Grapes... he just takes them off me and throws them as hard as he can away from his cage and his food dishes, I even held on to one to see if I can get him to taste it a little but he was having none of it, he sqwaked and threw a complete strop! He is defo in the terrible twos and wants to talk to us but only limited handling still, oh well considering he has only been living with us almost one month I think we are doing pretty well!!

Me and my partner came about Wallace about 3weeks ago (as in earlier thread) http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?191689-Wallace-update-(longish-thread) He never really seemed to take to myself but he did with the other half (im male by the way) He talks to her but does attempt to bite her when she tries to handle him (unless he is away from his cage) However a good friend of mine came to my house today and Wallace was besotted with him (loads of affection and regurgitation) I put 2 and 2 together (he has longish hair and so does my other half) and mine is shaved I put on a hat and low and behold he is fine with me , so does this mean my CAG hates bald heads ? I cant wear a hat everytime i want to do a bonding session with him so any tips would be a great help .... yeah ok the obvious answer is grow my hair but i keep it shaved as it dont wanna grow back fully anymore lol helpppppppppppppppppp

Hi I got Wallace over a week ago from somebody who never had time for him any more, he is a 3yr old african grey male who at the time (as told by the lady i got him from) had a bit of a chest infection causing him to wheeze and a bit of a sore eye due to the stress of the vets when she took him .. Well !! We took Wallace home and i booked an appointment with my local Avian vets for the next day to see if this "chest infection" was on its way out as she had givin him antibiotics for it my vet told me he did not have a chest infection but very blocked sinuses causing him to wheeze badly he cleared out from his nasal cavity loads of dryed mucus and gave me some antibiotics to help with his sinusitis (chest infection ??) any how.. i gave him his antibiotics daily for 8 days and took him back to vets for another check up and his brething has improved a LOT no more wheezing but still slightly pink around his eyes he examined the sore eye (nothing to do with stress i might add ) and told me it was due to Wallace rubbing his head with his claws because of the iritation from the blockage he gave me some more antibiotics and something for his eye since bringing Wallace home from where he was obviosly not being kept right (living on a diet of monkey nuts and sun flower seeds) he is now starting to accept more veg(sweet potato , brocolli and carrot) and fruit (apple and mango) nuts are now a treat for him (brazil and walnut) and he also has a premium parrot mix also in his diet new words are coming from "good boy , come on, hello wallace and whatttt !!! and new whistles and noises (kisses and rasberrys) he is out of his cage from 10am till 10pm and i have a Avian light for him also  he is now learning the step up command and is not fearfull as much of myself and my other half (still a bit snappy now and then but so am i lol) so lets raise our glasses to a new life for Wallace and people who buy Parrots should defo do home work before hand instead of impulse buying these fantastic creatures

We got our african grey 3 days ago , he is 3yrs old and will not say much to my partner but will speak to me when I go near the cage, he repeats phrases he has obviously learned from previous owner such as "good boy". He will not allow me to put my hand any where near him but has allowed my other half to and has stepped on to his hand but wont talk to him, we are assuming it is just going to take time and patience to get him to trust us, we think he lost trust with the previous owners, they fed him a poor diet, did not interact and kept him in a draft so when we got him on Tuesday he has a cold (poor baby) we took him to the vet and he has antibiotics for his water and we are vitamin supplementing his food while trying to get him off sunflower seeds, he could just be aggressive cos he is not feeling well either, just wanted to get peoples opinions - is all the talking a good thing??
-
Thanks for that, we have the problem of him being a very picky eater but I may try sprouting some of his seeds that he does eat!

his water is well away from any thing like that

Hi, We have just taken on an African Grey called Wallace and he is GORGEOUS, his previous owners were somewhat neglectful and had recently had a baby and more or less ignored Wallace, now because I am female he seems to associate this with his previous "mom" It is strange - he will talk A LOT to me - especially when it is just us two but striclty NO TOUCHING... i am ok with this but can anyone give us any tips on how to gain his trust. It problably does not help that his previous owners had been feeding him on more or less solely Sunflower seeds and Monkey Nuts (aargh) I have today got him to taste and lick some cooked sweet potato (not the best but i thought it is a start), obviously I cannot take away his primary food source straight away but we are trying to get him to taste other things to try and at least make a start on diet changes. I will be trying lots of various veg, but have been told to keep it simple with 1 or 2 veggies to start. I understand that you can kind of make toys (i am thinking kebab onstring) Any other tips on both the trust thing and the food thing will be gratefully received - ps he does not get monkey nuts any more have managed to replace them with walnuts and brazil nuts (not much better but at least they have vitamin powder on them??? Thankyou

hiya his name is Wallace He is a African Grey Congo and 3yrs old He was in a family doing fine until the owner had a new baby and then he started to fall out with her (due to lack of interest from her i think) So now he lives with me and my other half I want to take him for a MOT but getting him from the cage to a carrier might be stressfull to him and my fingers He has a slight wheeze but the previous owners said he has just finished a course of antibiotics so i want to take him to my local exotic vets anyway (to be on the safe side) Hopefully he is fine and ill have my new freind for many years to come
