just wanted to update everyone Fintan, our baby is doing great!!! We were up with him all night long, we dont have a 24 hour vet where we live. We planned on taking him in the morning. But he went back to his normal self after a few hours LOL he is eating and being loud like usual So excited!!!! Thanks to those who replied! I really appreciate it!!!

Ill save the long story LOL but we have a 3 week old cockatiel. Tonight while feeding he started to gag and became limp. My husband immediately turned him over to help him clear the formula. After about 2 minutes the baby started screeching like he usually does, but he sounds a little horse. I looked on the internet to see what we should do. Some say that if he is still ok in 2 hours he may make it, but he may still get pneumonia. Is this true!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! We are keeping him warm and are watching his behavior and will continue to for the next few hours.....PLEASE HELP!!!

So, Gabby will be on year old this month. She started talking a few months ago, and hasnt shut up!! HAHAHA I LOVE It!!! Gabby has taken to me. She will tolerate pets sometimes from my husband and kids, but she love love loves it when mommy rubs her. She is truly the greatest thing!! Aside from my human babies lol but she has adapted nicely in our home. She has a few sounds she loves, an alarm from my husbands phone, the microwave, the screen door opening, the refrigerator door closing, she does fart sounds LOL she has my youngest girls high pitch scream!! LOL Kind of annoying but, what do ya do..... She says gabby gabby, Can I have a Kiss, Gimme a kiss, MUAH!!, what are you doing?, (Most of these are sadly in my husbands voice LOL) we listen to the country music station THE WOLF and when they say 105.5 the wolf, she goes ooowooooo!!!! LOL One day, she was making an obnoxious noice of my cockatiel, and i kept telling her to hush, she didnt. So i got up and said GABBY!! If you dont stop that sound I am going to spray you with the water bottle!! And what does my smart little girl say back to me? "OK" In my youngest girls voice!!! It was the darndest thing LOL How can you get mad at that?? she mumbles all the time trying to say more, I just know she is going to live up to her name. I know there is more she said, but i cant think of it LOL Just wanted to share Hope you all had a great day! And have a great night!

Thank u again everyone. But My beautiful baby pearl went to heaven this morning. I don't know where I went wrong. I've been crying all morning thinking what I could have done better at.........we had her a week today. A short period of time I know. But our lives evolved around her all week. It's so hard letting go...........

Thank you for ur replies the vet told me to message her crop every hour. Lol and I meant to say that he told me not to feed her until the crop is empty. Her crop feels and looks like it should. Just doesn't empty all the way between feedings. So I was wondering if that is something I should be worrying about. My vet is "on vacation" of all times to leave lol. Darn it. So I was hoping for all your inputs on it. Thanks again!!!!!

Also, her crop isnt hard or green or anything. I feed her formula a little more watered down, and so her crop is squishy and feels like it should. Just thought you all should know LOL I have looked up sour crop and all that kind of stuff so i wanted to make sure you knew that

Gabby is now.....8 months old and a few days ago, she said "Pretty Bird" In my husbands voice!!!! LOL I was in the bathroom, and she was in the living room, no one else was around her. I came out and said "Gabby, did you say something?" She looked at me like "Crap, she heard me!!!" LMFAO She is doing so great!! I am however having a problem right now with a cockatiel baby, i posted a question in the health section if anyone would like to help me out. It would be so much apreciated!!!

Ok, so i know this is about Greys, which i have LOL Gabby is doing great! I havent been on here for a while. She actually said her first words a few days ago. Ill post that up in a bit. Right now i am handfeeding a baby cockatiel. She is 20 days old, but doesnt have any feathers. I got her at 14 days old and at 17 days had to bring her into the vets to get her tummy pumped as it was not going down at all!! I now have her at the right temperature, and right humidity, her crop goes down half way, sometimes a little more than half way in 3 1/2 to 4 hours. We rub her crop every hour, and can see that it is doing its thing moving and stuff back and forth by itself. My question is, how often should the crop empty??? I have heard 24 hours, i have heard 3 hours. Is it ok that it isnt emptying all the way, yet still empties some?? After every feed (Which i try every 4 hours and only give her from 1-2ccs depending on how much her crop has gone down) we message her crop. Then every hour on the hour, more if we can, we message. The vet told me that i didnt have her at the right temp and to just make sure the crop drains........and it is, just not as much as i have read it should. Any advice would be awsome!! I am so greatful for this sight!!! LOL

OH!! LOL The petstore we bought Jax (Cockatiel) at, said they didnt know how old he was, he was owned by a blind woman and she had too many animals so she let the birdstore have them. I had a cockatiel when i was growing up, so i can say that this bird is pretty old, looks like he might have probs with his feet...weve made an apt with the vets.......He came to the petstore with his brother, we couldnt say no to him!! It was just so sad!!! So he isnt trained at ALLLLLL!!!!!!! My husband is teaching him the step up, and has done so a few times now! Quick learner thank goodness LOL We just feel bad for him sittin in our bedroom all alone. Plus our bedroom is pretty cold, so thats why we want to know how long we have to keep him in there for......Thanks again!!!!!!!

My husband just bought a White Faced Cockatiel. We currently have a 6 month old Grey. My question is, how long should we quarentine the cockatiel for?? Are there any special things that we should do before we introduce the two?? The will NOT Be in the same cage LOL We have had the cockatiel for 2 days now, we keep it in our room, Gabby, Our Grey is in the living room. The cockatiels feces look good, we have checked for mites, we will attempt a bath later today LOL But is there anything else that were missing? Any thing would help!!! Thank you!!!

welcome!!! I am not saying i disagree or agree with the previous posters, but ill tell you my situation LOL I did my research and was petrified, i have wanted a grey for a longggg time!! And a month or so ago now, I got Gabby. she was 4 months old. I have two children, a 2 year old and a 3 year old. Both girls, and am determined to have a BOY!! LOL at some point. My children know that they shouldnt put their hands in her cage cause that equals an owie!!! The first day i met Gabby she shredded my thumb, and i used that as an example of how much of an owie my kids could get if they stuck their fingers where they dont belong. since then, gabby has only bit me once (putting on her harness, but she is used to it n ow) She stays on her cage mostly, but has not even made a grab for my kids. We just kind of co exist. Of course we are still in the honeymoon days lol but she is doing great with them. I was also worried about the noise issue, my kids are NOISY!!!! we live in a duplex, but i have awsome neighborsm Gabby has her moments, but for the most part she is pretty quiet, making wistling noises, its super cute!! Off subject LOL sorry But Gabby just watches my kids with interest, the noise they make doesnt bother her, we leave music on for her on the two mornings a week no one is home and she does great!! We cant tell you what to do, only give our opinion, and this was mine LOL Good luck on your decision!!

Thanks everyone!! I dont feel so bad anymore lol i thought maybe i was doing something wrong. Its good to know it just comes with time Ill keep you guys posted!!

my aunt had 2 siamese cats, then she got her parakeets and a cockatail. They were curious at first about eachother, but learned to live togather. The cockatiel would ride on the cats backs, and they didnt pay any attention. One day she found a kitten along the side of the road, brought it home,,,,,,two minutes later the cockatiel became its lunch.......it was horrible. So it is possible...

So, weve had Gabby now for almost a month!! She has been so great!! She is mimicking our wistles, and steps up and loves her head rubs But it seems that she likes to just be on top of her cage all the time rather than be on the couch with us (Her cage is in the living room with us). I bring her to the bathroom and bedroom with me, and she does ok with just hanging out as long as were in sight, but when were sitting on the couch, i bring her down to sit either on the arm of the couch or the back of. She automatically starts trying to figure out a way to get back to her cage. So my question is, should i just keep bringing her on the couch, or leave her on her cage until she feels more comfortable with us and climbs down from her cage to come to the couch for some scratchin?? She clicks at us on her cage when we walk by and puts her head down saying she wants it rubbed, but she doesnt really like being pet when she is off of her cage..........

HI I havent been able to get on here much LOL But i thought i would let you all know my hubby and i got our Gabby in her flight suit 2 days ago. She got me a few times pretty good lol but once it was on her she was fine. We left it on only a few minutes, then took it off. We put it on again last night and without any blood shed!!! A total plus!! LOL I put it on her by myself today so we could go for a short car ride. So im hoping she will associate that when we put the harness on her, shell get to go somewhere with us And Shanlung, Great Post!! Thank you so much for that!! I must clarify though, i only wanted a harness so i could take her from my home to my car and back LOL I am in NOOO Way going to let her fly in it!! And i am in no way saying that people that do let theirs fly outside are bad!! Just to make sure no one thinks im trying to be mean LOL Cause im not!! I just want to guarentee that my beautiful baby will be safe when i take her outside, and i hate her having to be in a cage when we bring her with us. She deserves to be part of the family in every way! She is out of her cage all day, and i so want her to go with us when we take a short trip, of course someone is in the car with her at all times lol but she is doing great with it, and the smart little bugger already figured out how to take the clippy thing off one of the sides of the harness, so im looking round on the internet for a different style. the one i have now has 3 like the metal things you can put on your keys, where you push the button down and the round part opens, so she an unhook one but will still not be able to get her harness off, but would still like to get a different style one, just to be sure lol......does anyone have a particular harness they used? That is better? I bought the one we have from the local pet store, just becuase i wanted to get it on her and have her used to is sooner rather than later. Any other harness suggestions would be great!! And where to get them! Thanks alot!! and ill talk to ya guys soon
