  1. I think that it is an appropriate time for me to say ROTFLMAO! I think this is an adult only thread so I won't let Stella see this.... she's just not ready yet!
  2. Talon... what size did you buy and where? I ordered the Superior Cotton... once I make the net I will provide feedback
  3. Thanks everybody for the links. I was hoping to find some 1/2" sisal but that seems impossible to locate. I may just go with 1/2" Super Cotton. I have done business with cabirdnerds and birdsafestore and can recommend both.
  4. We bought a scale from http://www.oldwillknottscales.com. It arrived today; setup was easy and the anticipation was high. I have never had a Grey before or any parrot or bird for that matter. Stella weighed 397gr at her first visit to the vet on Sept 15 when she was just about 15 weeks. Today, a month later she weighs 410gr. Granted these weights were taken on 2 different scales but I'll assume they are both calibrated and even if slightly 'off' it looks like we have a growing little baby Grey
  5. Roseanna I bought the toy parts at http://www.cabirdnerds.com/ The first 'toy' I made... I took about 6" of the hemp cord and I strung 2 beehive beads in the center between 2 alphabet blocks on the cord with a knot tied on each end.... making a foot toy. Stella loved it. Well she loves those alphabet blocks so she just had a blast with that. For the second 'toy', I took a bamboo chew tube and put 2 unsalted roasted peanuts inside the tube. I jammed them into the tube so they wouldn't just fall out. She just tore that up in no time! The look on her face when she was tearing after those peanuts was priceless! Donald
  6. I bought some toy parts to make and fix some of Stella's toys. She obviously has chosen her favorite!
  7. I am happy to report.... Stella loves the Just Veggies! Apparently she likes 'crunchy' and crunchy they are. The Just Veggies are a hit. a BIG Thank You goes out to Adina (lovethatgrey)
  8. OK... I'll bite! I just ordered Just Veggies for Stella
  9. I have done a search and didn't really see where I should buy the material to make a climbing net. I see some warnings not to buy treated sisal but no suggestions where to buy the right stuff... is sisal the best? Anybody have some recommendation(s)?
  10. I received the 60# paper today. It is just what I was looking for. It is heavy enough, that is, it has some substance to it (no pun intended). it is a 600 foot roll and I bought the cutter as well. I cut 5 sheets tonight, put them in the cage and voilà... Good to go.
  11. At least a dozen times over a period of 4 or 5 years, we went to a specialty bird store here in Miami. I knew I wanted a parrot but I wasn't sure which type or when or really when I would be ready to make the commitment. We looked at many different birds over that span of time but we always walked away. This past August, once again, I asked my sig if she wanted to go visit Simbad's Birds. We hadn't paid a visit in many months. This time she gave me the eye roll and said, "nah I don't think so we have been so many times and I don't think I wanna go again". I said c'mon just take a ride and let's go look! Well she did and we did. We held this little 9 week old Grey and it just happened. As a matter of fact we held 3 Greys that day but this one was special. We 'connected' and it just seemed like this little creature should spend the rest of her life with us. We claimed her and she claimed us that same day. 3 weeks later she moved in. Stella has been with us almost 4 weeks. Didn't really go choose a Grey.
  12. OK.... well this guidelines make sense to me. I was just hoping that there was not some supersensitivity to the elements that I was not aware of. I was assuming.... but then why assume anything especially when I have the support of the members on this forum. You just can't imagine how lost I would feel having so many questions and no source of good information. Thank you all!!!
  13. Ask and you shall receive.... the people on this forum are the best! Thank you for the replies. So Dan (et al.) I am looking at the scales in the link you provided. Is there any reason to spend the $100+ for a 1200g capacity rather than say spending half that amount for a 2500g capacity scale? Which model do you prefer?
  14. Hello, I have read several threads that say too much variation in temperature over a short period of time is not good. I thought I was doing a good thing by putting Stella outside a few hours each day. I am in S Florida so at this time it is in the mid to upper 80s during the day. When she's outside, she is in the shaded part of the patio but it is certainly mid 80s. When I bring her inside, the temp is about 75. Should I curtail this activity and just keep her in the house? Donald
