I am pretty excited! I have only been around small birds and my grey, so I can't wait to learn about the rest of the parrots. The pay is not very good, I hope its worth it, and I learn allot.

So far he hasn't messed with the bottom of the toy

I tried the Lixit bottle for almost a week, because I was hoping the water would stay cleaner and I wouldn't have to change it everyday and waste all the bottled water. But, after the first day I decided to open the bottle and smell the water which appeared to be clean, and it stunk! So I cleaned it out and tried it again, and the same thing. I think what was happening was Babalu would carry his food over to the bottle, eat, then drink. I think there must have been some backwash or something. So since I had to empty the bottle anyway everyday, I switched back to the crock. I have seen many bird stores using bottles though. That was my experience though.

Oh, I think I might take the dish off, he seems to be having a hard time getting to the treats.

Hi, I just bought one of these after reading about everyone else's. I'm not sure how the nut on the bottom is on your guy's, but mine has a button you have to push to get off. Is that how yours are? And your greys still can get it off? The first pic Im trying to show the button, and the second just looks wrong!

I tried vet wrap on the shower perch I made, Babalu wouldn't go near it until I took it off. He has never seen it before though.

Mine can crack most almonds, and if course peanuts, but he drops sunflower seeds and pine nuts. Weird.

I use safflower seeds for Babalu, he only gets those when we work with the harness. He loves them! He would also eat cheese all day long, but again he only gets that when I want him to step up, but he wont, then I bust out cheese and he is my best friend. I think he knows how to make me give him cheese now, as he doesn't step up as much... hmmm.. he trained me, LOL.

I saw Shanlung's mash also, I am also going to try that next. My sister in law actually took a to go container home of the mash and not my dinner that night:)

A couple days ago I made the Mike Manna Mash. It took a couple hours to chop everything, after the soaking of beans. The first time I gave it to Babalu, he only ate the apple pieces. So this morning I blended a little and he ate more of it. I hope he gets use to it and likes it because there is a ton of it in my freezer. And I made the smaller version. My sister in law actually liked it herself when it was fresh.

Ok, so I went out and bought him the neti pot and a new air cleaner, the same one Keywe suggested. He used the neti pot and liked it, and also liked the newer air cleaner, I got the medium size one. I told him we can go back and get another one if we like the way it works. So far so good, and he hasn't said anything about me not clipping Babalu lately... Until I have to tell him to keep the bath/house doors shut, then he will probably say something about having to worry about that. So far Babalu has on new flight feather, it looks silly.

I used a small collapsable dog kennel when we drove from Cali to Va. I hung perches, toys and food, water cups, and kept a towel over the backside so he couldn't see all the bags and dog crates. It worked very well, but it was awkward carrying it to and from hotel rooms.

Thank you, I will look into the neti pot, I have never even heard of it. I will also look at the book, but we already try to eat healthy, we were both US Marines, I am out now and he is a lifer!

Keywe, what is the name of the air filter you bought? I have been thinking about getting a good one... He has allergies to allot of things. We also have 2 dogs. I keep the place pretty clean hoping it will help him, our new place here in Va is a 3 level townhouse. He knew when we met that I loved animals, one of the dogs is his. I don't have allergies so I don't know what he goes through, I just have to listen to him snore and complain:). We have been together for over 4 years, 3 with dogs and 2 with the bird. I think I just need to invest in maybe 2 good quality air filters, one where the cage is and one in the bedroom. The good ones are so expensive though.

I just had my husband make Babalu one! He modified it a little because they dont make a 4 way conector in the cpvc.

I am really sorry for your loss. I hope he gets returned to you. I just moved out of the San Diego area, don't forget to contact local shelters and bird rescues, craigslist, pendletonyardsales (if you are in North County), miramaryardsales. Good luck.

Babalu was clipped when I rescued him 2 years ago, and I have kept him clipped. I am unsure what I want to do now, I thought I wanted to let them grow out (he has one feather grown in on one wing now). But like anyone else I am nervous about any accidents... I am still doing my own research and have bought the aviator harness and slowly trying to get him use to it. In my head I want him to be able to fly and be a bird, but.......... My husband doesn't want him to fly because he has allergies and thinks feathers and dust will go everywhere.
