  1. Has anyone seen "My Child is a Monkey" on National Geographic Channel? If so what did you think? Any thoughts on how it relates to us as owners of wild birds? I think there are some big differences but also some disturbing similarities. Do you think the piece was fair? If you haven't seen it, I believe it airs again this Friday at 2pm.
  2. Well if you do the math it's only 11mg of sodium per piece, which is less sodium than in a cup of chopped kale or broccoli, and most of it ends up as crumbs on the ground I think that makes it a pretty smart treat and of course treats are only an occasional thing. I've been using them as a reward for training as well as for trying to endear her to my housemates.
  3. Hi all, I bought a snack from the local organic foods store that looked like a healthier version of pretzels. After I brought it home I read the packaging noticed how healthy the ingredients really are. The ingredients are in this order: brown rice, whole quinoa, brown flax seeds, brown sesame seeds, whole amarinth, whole millet, chia seeds, tomato paste, chipotle chile, filtered water, sea salt. (All organic) I was impressed that salt was the last ingredient and there is only 160mg (7% dv) of salt in a serving size of 15 pieces. So it seemed like a great snack for the birdies and my baby Tali really loves them. Keep an eye out in your local health food stores. They are called Sticks & Twigs by a company called Mary's Gone Crackers.
  4. Hi everyone, Me and my boyfriend brought home our new baby (3 month old) CAG last Sunday. I decided to name her Tali, which took me about 3 days! She was very uneasy at first but has acclimated well to her new home. She is eating lots of different foods and playing with her new toys that we bought for her. I am a little concerned because she seems to have become very attached to me. She's getting a little better now about eating/playing on her own and going into her cage at night, but she seems to always want to be with me. She also doesn't seem to like anyone else very much (my boyfriend and my brother who is living with us) and she still usually squeaks unhappily at them when they try to hold her, feed her, or give her a toy. Is she quickly becoming a one-person bird, or will she just take longer to warm up to the other family members? Any tips for them to make her trust them and like them more? I try to tell them to just continue to be patient and kind to her, but I can tell they are feeling frustrated and I can feel their jealousy! Help! Thanks
  5. That's what I thought might be the case with getting two greys. So maybe I will just get one I am in the process of finding breeders. I met a breeder recently at a bird expo and I may email her in the next couple of days. I live in So. California if anyone knows a good breeder let me know!
  6. Hello, I am new to this forum. I'm 26 years old, a full time student, and a long time bird lover/owner. Right now I have two budgies and a cockatiel who has ovarian cancer I had a baby CAG a few years ago named Emmy. She died when she was about 1 year old from a heart defect, which was very devastating. I'm sure as fellow grey owners you guys can understand how much I loved her. Anyway, I think we are ready to have another grey baby, and I would like some advice. I was thinking about getting two grey baby siblings together, but I am not sure if this is a good idea or not and haven't been able to find a lot of information about this. Does anyone have advice about starting with two babies? Would our relationship with them be more or less fulfilling than if we had gotten a single baby? I think that one of the reasons I am considering this is because I am worried about having an experience raising one grey that is similar to my experience with my first grey Emmy. I'm worried that I will compare my new baby to Emmy, who was so wonderful. I guess I'm hoping that if I get two babies, not only will it be fun and rewarding, but also that I won't be able to compare my experiences with them to Emmy. Maybe I'm just worrying too much! Anyway, it would be really nice to hear from other grey owners. Thanks!
