  1. ok my husband just called me and said that he brought my step son and his friend over to see him (they were calm). he opened his top door and he came out like always. kevin said he was showing no signs of aggression so he went to touch him and he bit down. not fast no sound but bit down hard. kevin said he did not jerk back but it took him about 20 secs to free his finger. then when he went to try to put him back in the cage he went nuts. yelling and all. well i was trying to figure out WHY. and kevin told me earlier that he got him to step up on his perch and took him to sit with him on his lap in the recliner played with him for a bit them put him back in the cage and left to go somewhere. i am thinking maybe madison was upset that kevin put him back up after finally getting him to step up and playing with him. i am waiting to hear back from kevin on whether or not he got him back in the cage i told him to use a blanket. now that i know this do i need to be scared for him to come out again?? kevin just called and said that he went in his cage on his own. after hissing at him.
  2. My husband and I re homed madison. We got him on July 25th, 2010. His birthday is May 18th, 2008. In his previous home he was kept in a small cage at all times. His past owner didnt know anything about birds. I have done tons and tons of research to prepare myself for my little life long companion. Of course i know that with all that research there are still lots of things i will have to learn directly from my little boy! with that being said i welcome all advice for my family and i on our new beginning with Madison. I need a little advice please. We let Madden out of his cage when we get home until bedtime. At the top of our cage there is a opening that folds down and he can stand on it. this is where he likes to be the most while we are petting him. Last night when i went over there to give him some attention he sorta made a quick movement with his head and of course i pulled back and just walked away (not sure if that is a bad thing to do or not). my husband kept telling me to go back to him right then but i told him that i read to walk away from it and go back when i was ready. is that right? another question is with that opening on the cage being higher up than both of us tall is that a bad place for us to interact with him? his first night home my husband kept trying to get him to step up and all he would do is nibble all over his hands but never try to bite...is that a bad habit to let him do? i dont believe Madden has ever been trained to step up. should i do target training with his old perch that was in his old cage first and get him comfy with that then try our hand? he has flown off his cage once and just walked back to his cage which i thought was funny. also any advice to ME so that i will not let him know that i am "iffy" with him?? SORRY I AM ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! Thanks in advance!!!
  3. that is funny jay!! "im joey not jim" i will take your advice and tell my hubby to go back to madison for now. you definitely know more than me about a bird so i will take all your advice and run with it! Thanks, Call him both, for a day or 2, call him Madison, then star calling him Madisom/Maddem, then after a short while, reverse it, and call him Madden more and more, dropping his old name. You'll have to decide how long to do this, watch his face and reactions...Thanks Jayd

  5. Madden (previously named Madison) was in a home living in a cockatiel cage and was not able to get out. He is a Blue Fronted Amazon. We brought him home yesterday and he has been great!! He has exceeded my expectations by far! I look forward to sharing my life with him!!!
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4sUuiw5f18 thanks jay! i have already read that and told my husband all about it. i told him how i have never wanted to be thrown up on so bad in my life haha ( i was joking) here is a video of Madden (we renamed him that) more masculine and very close to his old name. any way here is a video of him playing with his new toy...ps he loves his new cage and toy. i only put one in there...i didnt want him to feel overwhelmed!
  7. Here is an update before we go to bed...HE IS FREAKIN AWESOME!!! He went to his new cage, he has been swinging from his new toy. We decided to open the door to see if he wanted to come out and he llllooooovvvveeeessss getting his head scratched!! Won't quite step up yet but is half way there! Oh and he lloovveess my daughter! She is 4. When she came home he started talking and she said my name is bella and guess what??? He said it immediately over and over! This is beyond what I could have ever hoped for!! Can't wait to show my millions of pictures tomorrow! Thank y'all for all yalls great advice and for future advice! Couldn't have made it thru the day without all yalls cheering and coaching!! Oh and he gave us a beautiful feather!! STAY TUNED.........
  8. We are on our way home with him!!he is great! His feathers look rough...no plucking though! He is having a ball talking and all!! I have videos and pictures to post Monday!!! Any advice on introducing him to a bath?
  9. On our way to get our baby!!! We will have him in 2.5 hours!!!!
  10. thank you that made me tear up!! sooo sweet that you and sully were together conquering everything!! everything i read is so inspiring! on the body language i read on this forum about the body language of the grey...is that the same of the amazon?
  11. so funny story...we brought the cage in and i was wiping it down really good with the apple cider vinager (WHICH STINKS!!) and when i got finished i washed my hands and got ready for bed. my husband and i were laying there and he said "you are gonna have to go change and take a shower that mess stinks!" I laughed and told him he better get used to it. It wont be the last time I clean it up really good and he is going to be with us forever!" Its going to be like christmas tomorrow! I talked to the lady again and she was telling me how she felt bad she had him in such a small cage. i told her it was no judgement to her character i just honestly believe she didnt know (which im sure a lot of people go out and buy one because they think its cool and have no idea what they are getting themselves into). i reassured her that we would take good care of him and she could call us anytime and i would send her pictures. She also told me a little more about him. she said he is very laid back and does say his name "madison" and her name "lottie" and says a few other phrases. she said they didnt know birds could talk and just one day he started doing it and they couldnt believe what was happening. i thought that was so funny. what put me at ease the most is how she said that he is laid back. i know the first few months he will have to build a bond with us, but once he sees that we are loving and trustworthy i know we will be inseperable!! I will take a video tomorrow when we go get him and on the ride home. hehe is there anything special i need to bring for him for the ride home to make him feel more at ease? like treats or anything?
  12. ok jayd i will do that tonight! I used hand soap origionally. thank yall so much yall are all too kind!!
  13. loki's monion i think im going to go with your advice and leave him in his hell hole next to his mansion for those few days and when we get home we will leave that door open and also the door open to his new cage. I hope he takes to us pretty quick! i know we will be better owners!!!
  14. whoa!!! that made me nervous!!! Im going to see if my husband can be off work with me for that day!!
  15. THANKS JAYD FOR ALL YOUR GREAT INFORMATION! I immediately go and read all of it ! You are such a great help!! Jayd for his appointment to get checked at the vet, if he still isnt trusting me yet...how in the world do i get him out of his cage?
  16. the bump might be something normal. its on the second picture.
  17. The first 2 pictures of Madison I believe are earlier pictures. the 3rd and 4th picture are the current ones of the cage he is in. the last picture is the cage we got him (excuse our messy garage) we cleaned it up really good. One question i had about the picture of him is that "bump" coming out on his right wing...what is that? also a silly question... with him being 2 is it ok to change his name?
  18. Thank y'all for the advice. I take it all in! The cage we got him is huge I will post pictures tomorrow. When I talked to the vet they dis say it would be a good idea to get his wings clipped that is also scheduled for the 30th. I wont have him on pellet only. I was.going to do mainly fresh food with it and make it fun for him to find them in different things throughout his cage.
  19. Thank you so much! We are going to get him Sunday! I will keep y'all posted with his progress!
