The trailer looks good anyway! Synopsis 'Rio' is a 3-D animation feature from the makers of the 'Ice Age' films. Set in the magnificent city of Rio de Janeiro and the lush rainforest of Brazil, the comedy-adventure centers on Blu, a rare macaw who thinks he is the last of his kind. When Blu discovers there's another -- and that she's a she -- he leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio. But it's far from love at first sight between the domesticated and flight-challenged Blu and the fiercely independent, high-flying female, Jewel. Unexpectedly thrown together, they embark on an adventure of a lifetime, where they learn about friendship, love, courage, and being open to life's many wonders. 'Rio' brings together a menagerie of vivid characters, a heart-warming story, colorful backdrops, energizing Latin and contemporary music, and family-friendly song and dance. http://www.moviefone.com/movie/rio-3d/37965/video/rio-trailer-no-1/86732756001

Do not feel bad! My daughter has a stuffed parrot, I practiced on it to figure it out. I am dyslexic, and things like this are difficult for me, so I understand!

I know I read somewhere here about this book, but I did a search and could not find it. Anyway, I just finished this book, and it was outstanding! What the author did for this barn owl for 19 years was amazing! Reading about the behavior of this owl was interesting, especially when his actions were unusual for a barn owl! I enjoyed this book so much, if you are a reader, I highly recommend it! Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl Stacey O'Brien (Author)

Have you ever hear of Temple Grandin? She has Asperger's Syndrome (a form of Autism) and has a PHd. Her work is with cows going to slaughter, and how to make their last time on earth calm. She gets called for consults all the time. Anyway, one time a slaughter house called her because the cows would no longer walk calmly back into their pen, they would not cross a certain area, although previously they had no issue with that area. She found the problem in seconds. A sign had fallen, and it scared the cows, she put it back up the right way (it was hanging funny), and the problem was solved! Her book "Animals in Translation" is a very interesting read, I highly recommend it! -
My poor bird lost his mommy (my mom) and had rarely been out of her house for 9 years except for Vet visits. When my mom was in the hospital my sister had to bring him to her house. Then my mom passed and 3 weeks later he was moved again. This time he was put in a carrier and was flown to California, I was with him in the cabin. My sister was convinced he would have a heart attack. The vet did prescribe birdie valium for the flight. Dudley did great by the way! We were much more stressed than he was. He moved right in, and now runs our house!! Your baby is much younger and will do fine!

I finished the book...that poor bird NEVER got the attention she needed! So it was upsetting at times. They did have a dog that had many problems, and they spent a lot of money to help it because they felt they would never give up on their animals. I will say they did more for that poor allergic dog than most people would. However, they should have given up their bird to someone who could have spent time with it, and maybe help it thru the trauma of being wild caught. The author was so caught up in in never giving up on an animal you bring into your family, when doing so most likely would have helped make this parrots life so much better. The only good thing about this book is maybe someone who thought they wanted a parrot will realize that they are a lot of work, and many (most) do not live up to the expectations they have, and then will NOT get one, saving the poor parrot from a miserable life.

Winging It: A Memoir of Caring for a Vengeful Parrot Who's Determined to Kill Me Jenny Gardiner (Author) I am reading this book now. It has many funny moments, but it is sad in the respect that the Grey was imported (back when it was legal) and she never seemed to adjust from that trauma. It is not all about the parrot (the title makes you think it is), but also about raising a busy family and caring for the parrot and their other pets. The bird is loved, but at a distance most of the time. She also suffers some terrible injuries after falling from her perch. I have not decided how much I like this book, I am still reading it. However, it makes me so happy that we no longer import birds!

Hi, my name is Debbie and I have 2 parrots, Nani, an Orange-Wing Amazon, 7 yrs old, (actually Nani is my daughter's), and Dudley, a CAG, who is 11 yrs. So I will introduce Dudley and me. Dudley was raised from a baby by my mom, she had me name him, and I choose Dudley. The last 7 years of my mom's life she was disable and homebound. So Dudley got used to all kinds of people coming in and out of the house. He is a very social bird. Mom was home with him all day, every day, and she talked to him like a person, or like he says "Momma's baby boy" When she was in the hospital, I took Dud to see her, and he walked all over her, but she was out of it, but I think Dud knew it was his mommy. When mom was in hospice and unconscious, my sister played a tape of Dudley, and mom reacted by moving and trying to open her eyes. We took that oppurtunity to tell her that Dudley was fine, he loved her, and I was going to care for him so she need not worry, and she settled right down. VERY hard to go thru. It was known from the beginning that I would take Dudley when my mom passed (since I was the one who got her interested in birds in the first place), and sadly that happened a little over 2 yrs ago:(. She lived in Indiana, and I am in California. So I went to Indiana and brought Dudley home with me on a plane. He actually has adjusted well, we mourned together...he lost his mommy too! When he talks, he sounds like my mom, and that was hard at first. Dudley is quite the talker, he even calls for me by calling me mommy. He blows us away when he answers questions, or joins in the conversation! We are home a lot, so Dud is out of his cage a lot too. We have 2 dogs, and Dud adjusted to them fast, in fact I have to keep Dudley from going to them to play...he thinks he owns the place! I am not sure if he knows he is a parrot! When people visit, Dudley is interested in them, he wants to visit with them, EVERYONE that visits! He is the most social bird I have ever seen. He never wants to go to bed at night, he is afraid he will miss someone or something! I had hand fed parrots many years ago, and have been around them & other birds on and off for over 30 yrs (I had my first cockatiel in 1977). Dudley is the most social and unusual parrot I have ever encountered! Anyway, probably too much information! I am an RN who has retired due to Lupus, so Dudley is with me most of the time. This is a great board!

Contact the company ASAP, tell them your concerns, and ask to have it replaced. Hopefully this was a bad one that got thru inspection. Tell them how close you came to loosing your bird!! Send the photo's, I bet they will make this right if they are a good company....

Training to POOP on command is NOT a good idea..
Calindy replied to lovethatgrey's topic in Training
I thought I had the only strange bird that help his poop all night! He spends a lot of time outside of his cage, and he NEVER poops in his cage. That morning one is a biggie!
