1. Just giving you guys an update. I spoke with Mitch at WindyCityParrot.com and he said that Prevue has the largest gap, about six inches, so that is what we will get! I'm so excited to finally figure out a solution to my problem. We are getting some samples on colors and then Tracy will be getting a new and much bigger cage!
2. I would like to thank all of y'all for the info. Judygram and Dave, I'm with ya on the need for a grate in my bird's case. He has lots of foraging toys now in his cage, but he still loves the challenge of getting stuff off of the tray. Spinner, thanks so much for checking your cage and giving me the information! I'm going to check out that company.

Tracy gets so excited when he is on "a mission" he unfortunately doesn't notice if he is raking his feet in poop. I change his paper twice a day but he still manages to get his feet dirty.
4. Thanks Talon for the advice. I think you misunderstood me. I am trying to find the measurements from the bottom cage grate to the bottom of the newspaper tray. My grey reaches his foot down to grab paper, dropped food, etc and can reach down about six inches. I don't want him messing with stuff that could have poop on it. The cage I was looking at was a Super Pets EZ Care in the large size, but another member said that hers only had a 2 inch gap. I need to know which brands have the largest gaps.
5. Hi, Tracy my CAG needs a bigger cage than the one he is in now. Our problem is that he likes to flatten his body to the bottom of the cage grate and pick up the newspaper, treats, etc. which is not good for him. The little guy can reach his leg down almost six inches! I need any recommendations on cages available in the US market that have at least a six inch gap, and preferably more. I'm not sure what the average clearances on A&E, Prevue, Super Pet, and other brands are. If anyone reads this and is bored enough to measure their grey's cage, Tracy and I appreciate it!
6. Hi Everyone! I adopted Tracy Bird the male Congo African Grey from another member here budman17r. Budman thought that Tracy was about 8-10 years old, but our avian vet said according to his closed band he was born in 93. Guess that makes him closer to 17! Tracy is just a great bird and fits right into our family. We had a little bit of a rough start but now we are on a better diet and some birdie meds to get him well. He is underweight at 386 grams(former seed diet) and has an infection of some kind. The vet sent an inconclusive test off to the lab just to make sure it wasn't Avian TB, but luckily it is just a minor bacterial infection they said. Needless to say we are glad to know that it isn't tuberculosis!!! I've been lurking on this forum for quite some time but finally joined when I saw the post for Tracy. We're in the process of shopping for a newer, larger cage than the one he came with. Currently he is in a 23x23x27 tall (interior dimensions) cage. Tracy is able to stick his leg down through his current cage grate and grab the newspaper in the bottom. Cage shopping is tough because no one online posts those measurements! Right now I'm liking the EZ Care cage with playtop by Super Pets that one of the forum members recommended. Any suggestions are appreciated. (Note: Anyone who knows where any company's grate to tray measurements can be found gets a gold star if they point me in the right direction!)

Post edited by: memphisbird, at: 2010/02/26 17:06
7. Hi Everyone, I'm Tracy's new human...well one of them. So far he is enjoying Memphis life with us. Budman did a wonderful job loving this bird because he has been so sweet since he came to live with us. I've been reading this forum for a while and finally signed up when I saw Tracy listed. My gut said this was the bird for us! It was a nine-hour round trip drive but so worth it for our new member of the flock.
