  1. WOW thanks for all of the stories, they actually are very helpful......
  2. lol yeah the law is not involved in any way here. so it is possible to gain the trust of a bird that is older who has never trusted before? obvisiouly i am going to have to see if they are even willing to seperate the two birds, then i need to get some kind of agreement with the wife as to if we will even be the ones to take him in.... lol i am not too fearful of getting bit, and i am home all the time now so i am sure that if i don't push myself on him he should come around, and if that happens...WOW that would be a Greyt relationship.
  3. just got alittle more info..... He has not been out of his cage in 3 yrs. He was abused by the previous owner, to the point that he hates human contact and the current owner basically stole him from the enviroment. the current owner also has a cockatoo, and due to a move they cannot keep them. I am going to try to set up a meeting with him and find out more.
  4. so i posted a thread in the nursery yesterday about the going rate for a CAG in dif areas, it was mentioned that maybe i should adopt a rescue. My wife came home from work yest and informed me of one of her frreinds that can't keep her CAG anymore. The gal actually rescued the bird from a very crappy situation. He is older (not sure of the age yet), and not handleable. was abused by the original owners. has anyone in here ever taken in a bird with major trust issues? and is it possible to earn there trust to a point of being able to handle them? I do have Mojo, and i figure that the other grey would eventually come around to being trusting if he see's my interactions with Mojo (who is over trusting in me). Is this a possible Cag that could be added to the home??? I am now unempoloyed so time with him would not be an issue.
  5. Congrats!! I am to assume that you found a cage that will work then? thanks for all of the replies. i gues that they are worth all of the money we put into them. I was hoping maybe they were over priced here in Colorado and that i could make a road trip to find a huge savings. lol
  6. i have considered adopting. but out here people could really care less about there birds. they all want way too much money, not to mention all of the ones i have looked at are in terrible cages and so i would have to purchase a new cage anyway. lol, when the time comes, this will be an option. I would rather take one out of an enviroment that sucks that way it is a win win win situation. We will def be adopting a McCaw when the time arrises as well. my wife wants a hyancith but there is no way i am paying 10k for a bird lol
  7. i would suggest keeping them in seprate parts of the house for a bit. a couple of reasons. A. you want to make sure that all of the birds arein good health. B. the Birds that you already own may become a bit jealous. i would hate to see the McCaw that you already have go into some kind of wierd behavior due to a knew baby in the home. Also make sure that when you do your feedings, cage cleanings and general care for the birds that the McCaw comes first. that way he/she will realize that all is normal. It will be extremely tempting to care for the baby first but this may not be a good move psychologicaly on the other birds. I am not experienced in owning more than one bird, so i am sure that someone who does own more than one will chime in. I have however, done a lot of research on the topic. Wife and i are going to own a CAG and a McCaw with our TAG when we purchase a house.
  8. so i was thinking about getting a CAG to add to the family. I found a breeder here in CO but not sure that i want to get one from her. I asked her if she clips and she insists on it. i told her that i would not get a clipped baby and asked if i could put a request for the wings to be left alone, she was not happy with my decision. anyway, my ? is this.... i paid 750 for my TAG from a breeder in CO. he only does TAG's and i lost his number. how much did all of you pay for your CAG's.... i am not trying to pry, but i am curious if there may be a cheaper state to pick one up.... out here the petstores sell em for about 1800, and there is no way i am going to pick one up at that price! not to mention that they are all clipped.
  9. so it sounds like your bird actually uses her toys....lol i cycle my toys around alot. as for the cage, i am a bit OCD so i am always cleaning it. you should post pix anyway, i can't speak for the rest of the forums but i would love to see your babies.
  10. I think what suprised us both the most is that Mojo actually let her pick him up and put him to bed without biting her.... lol. I bit her however lol.
  11. I was so tired last night, and my wife took a pic. It is not often, but I love these moments
  12. i did the new flooring about 7 months ago. as far as the cage, Mojo who is a TAG stayed at the neighbors for about 3 and a half weeks in a cage that measures 20x20x2 and a half ft high. He was fine. Keep in mind that he is a TAG so if you have a congo you want a bigger cage. you just want to make sure that he can spread his wings with out being to crammed. I also had a chance to visit him daily (this is key!!!) to get him out and keepp him company. as far as the fumes, just because you can't smell them does not mean that they are not there. I can not smell burning tephlon, however this would kill our babies. I had the carpet guys use bird safe glue. carpet is more toxic than hard wood flooring so i would imagine that 3 weeks would be plenty. i waited about 5 days after i could not smell the flooring before i brought Mojo back into the enviroment. if you are not using any glue then i would imagine that it will not take but maybe 10 days or so for it to be safe. Congrats on the flooring! hope this helps
  13. Sorry right after he came home, just the same he has way more toys now,i also built him a sweet play stand that also has quiet a few more toys
  14. Lol that picture was taken before he came home about a year ago, he has more than enough toys lol
