I am clueless too elven and I think it might just be better that way. But it is a bit disturbing as this is my favorite place on the internet.

Wow he is beautiful. I love boxers. In the morning I will show my husband this thread as he loves them too. Thanks for sharing.

Oh this is terrible. Sending good thoughts your way that you get him home safely and soon. All reports say that they stay close to home and they hide at dusk anyway. Good luck and keep us informed as we are all thinking of you.

I am very worried. I am hoping no news is good news but fear it is not. Prayers are still coming. I have told everyone I know online who live in the area to keep an eye out, even nonparent people. I feel so sad for Adina.

One thing I read on the free flying birds forums: When one of a pair flys off, bring the other out in a cage to help lure back. If she takes Sachi with her looking, it might help Emma to know it is safe to fly down to them both. Prayers coming. I wish I could do more but its days distance from me. edit: I cross posted this to the freeflight yahoogroup. I believe there are birds there in Canada but have no idea where so I figured if it just happened to be near Emma, she might feel safe and fly to another parrot. Anyway, they are also alerted.

Hang in there. I am so glad he is getting better. He will be so happy to come home to you and it will be soon. You definitely did the right thing seeing how much better he is already!

I just want to add my appreciations for this article and thread. I have referred to it often. My baby Hawkins just turned 6 months today so I came here for another read.

Thanks. This is helpful. The feathers were pulled cleanly. No ragged edges. I was worried as we ran out of his harrisons and he was eating a different brand for four days while the Harrisons was being shipped. I won't let that happen again. I have aloe and can do that easily. In fact, I was looking for the thread about that earlier. He has seemed to me to be itchy. Just from observation he seems to be scratching a bit more. It has also gotten really hot, really suddenly here so it might just be due to the humidity being lower rather abruptly. I have a hygragometer or whatever they are called that measures humidity. I will try him out tonight on some chicken. That is what we are having for dinner as well.

When do baby birds go through their first molt? I know that in our climates they tend to molt constantly rather than all in one season but I noticed two tail feathers at the bottom of Hawkins sleep cage. There was no sign they had been chewed or pulled but now I am paranoid. He is just 6 months old tomorrow. I do think I see new red feathers growing in under the old ones though but I just wanted some reassurance or someone who knows to tell me to do something if needed. Also, what triggers molting? I know for my chickens it is the length of daylight hours but I have no clue for any other type of bird.

wow excellent news. Big kisses for Spock. I was thinking of him this weekend actually for no serious reason. Actually my parrot lay on his back with my son and I remembered the picture of Spock on his back. Its funny how often you all are in my thoughts.

Prayers coming your way. And it is really the best thing that aooodi is at the vet for a whole week. They can observe and treat immediately if necessary. I know it is hard for you but relax. Call them and check in daily if you wish. That is perfectly acceptable behavior in any country when your pet or loved one is in the hospital. And we might want to know the vets name if everything turns out well in case someone else from Saudi Arabia shows up here with a sick bird. I know we have quite a few folks from around the world where they can get Grey's more easily but have harder time getting good care for them.

Oh, can't wait for pics! Congratulations!

Oh poor little guy. Sending good thoughts his way. What is "guardian angel"? a tea or something?
-
I don't know what to say. It sounds so awful. I am sending hugs for what that is worth and I hope the police or some sort of option comes available to you. It isn't like he was there a week. Cocoa was with you for a long time and clearly your bird.

some possible scales that could work: http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&search_query=food+scale&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find I couldn't find the one I have now. Basically you want to find a scale designed for weighing food portions, not for weighing people.

She is an extremely good trainer. I have her videos and subscribe to her magazine as well. Definitely go and be sure to take notes and share them with us please.

This is an awesome post. Thank you. Hawkins just this week has decided he no longer enjoys taking showers with us so I was on the health forum looking for new methods to try out.

thanks Jayd. I am thinking I got safflower and sunflower mixed up. I am planning to get lights set up soon. At the moment I can take Hawkins outside daily but come fall we get a lot of cold rain and he won't be able to go out. I want to get the lights sooner though just in case my outside time with every day isn't enough.

It seems like a lot of fat to me as well but I am not a parrot nutritionist. My vet did tell me that greys eat concentrated foods in the wild such as the red palm fruit (full of oil). I also have heard on here and other sites that safflower seeds have no nutritional value for the birds. Almonds are high in calcium and Greys can sometimes be low on calcium so I wouldn't take those out but I might cut back on the seed mix a bit more. My vet recommends only harrisons and palm oil but I like to give the fresh fruit and vegies that people here recommend as it makes sense to me from what I have studied. I think she recommends that because so many birds get seed only diets in my area.

he is beautiful. I love the babies. Mine is still a baby too but a teeny bit older at almost 6 months. When you check out the harnesses, please consider the one mentioned above. I read a lot about them all before settling on one and this one wins hands down for ease of use for the human and comfort for the parrot. The flight suits are named wrong. They use their tales when they fly and the suits keep their whole rear end covered up and thus they can't fly in them. So, you will have to decide whether to put him in a flight suit or to just take paper towels to clean up when you go out. I have certain shirts I wear when we go into town together that I don't care if they are pooped on and he loves his harness because it means we get to go explore the world. The harness or flight suit however will take time for him to get used to. My breeder socializes all her babies to enjoy the harness so I lucked out. It can take a while. The aviator harness comes with a dvd that has very detailed instructions. Don't skimp on the first steps of getting him used to the harness without it being on as it will make a lot of difference later on. And the same thing for the wearing - you might only get the neck part on the first week or two then take it right back off again. The exact instructions are in the dvd. If you do choose to get a flight suit, then people can tell you how to step by step get him used to it once you have it. But check here first if your in doubt as the first time they are introduced to the thing will help them decide if they are okay with it or not in the future.

that is a very funny picture. These guys sure can be silly!

Happy Birthday Ben Her! You share a birthday with my daughter as well. Lovely day.

Hawkins likes to eat it right out of a spoon. I put a teaspoon out, he eats about a quarter of it and the dogs get to lick the spoon afterwords for a special treat. But they don't all love it. And they change their minds often. Some days he doesn't want anything to do with it and I figure it is not a big deal on those days since he gets it almost daily.

As Judy said, get him in that carrier and take him for fun trips. I read somewhere that you can think of it like a bank account - the more times he associates something with fun the more easily it will offset those times associated with bad things.
