  1. an update on Mandy...she has become very loveable toward everyone in the family. She spends time with my daughter throughout the whole day either she is watching her on the computer or they play with different toys in the kitchen...she like to snuggle with me watching tv...though she doesn't talk her and my daughter make me laugh with the silly noises she makes...my quaker meows at her and she barks back at him...they are quite comical...she is really nice to everyone in the family...we are so very happy to have her with us. it only took her a week to warm up to us and trust us.
  2. I have noticed that the pics on here of your greys their beaks are pointed...Mandy's has been grounded down so there is no point on hers...is that normal to do...I think she has problems with certain hard foods or things like crackers because of her beak being like this
  3. hi again...I don't have any new pics of mandy but daughter will be taking some soon...a little bit more about mandy...like I said we got her a couple days ago..she is 12..the last owners really didn't give us much info on her...so this is going to be fun with mandy...they did tell me that the first owner that had her told them about an accident with mandy ...he was painting in the basement where mandy was and he had to go upstairs for something and not thinking about her he left the big paint can open...when he came back down stairs he discovered her in the paint can....he had said that when he pullled her out she was near death...some how he managed to bring her around and it took a few weeks to get the paint off of her...then while living with her last family the wife was in the kitchen and mandy's cage is in the kitchen...she had the oven door open and something spooked mandy and mandy flew off the cage and just missed the open oven...she ended up under the oven door thank good and not in the oven...now mandy is here with us and she won't have to worry about close calls like that...our house is birdy proofed..and none of our quakers had even came to any harm here...I love them too not to be aware of what is going on around them...oh and mandy stepped up on me tonight and we snuggled and watched tv.....she let me stroke her head. I put her back on her cage and she won't step up again....but will let me pet her head....patience is a virtue and I know good things come to those who wait
  4. hi everyone!! my daughter and I are kinda new to the grey world. we just got mandy about 3-4 days ago...she is 12 years old. she seems like a very sweet bird...she isn't talkin and she really doesn't want to step up but we understand her fear of us...like any new child starting school...new is scary...we plan to give her enough time to adjust to her new home and flock...we spend the whole day in her presence...espeically my daughter since I got mandy for her...we don't expect miracles though they could happen...besides mandy we have 2 quaker parrots and a lovebird who thinks she is a quaker..she spends all her time with the younger quacker and has picked up most of his words. our oldest quaker Kracker we got him when he was about 4 years old...got him at the pet shop...the day we got him there was a really cute senagal baby in there...friendly as could be...Kracker he was not friendly at all and the only word he really knew was a swear word...after considering his bad biting habit and knowing no one would really want him we bought him...it took my daughter a few months to convince him not to bite her.6 years later we are very happy to say Kracker is very lovable and protective of her...he does allow me to pick him up...we got the other quaker when he was only 6 weeks old..that was about 5 years ago.his name is gonzo and he is just like a kid...always curios...and like to learn from kracker...our love bird my dauighter had her from birth...she hand fed her and did a wonderful job at that...now we have mandy and I feel it in my heart she will be happy again...even if it is slow we will never give up on her...we have read alot of material about greys but the majority of them only refers to the young ones...we really do look forward to getting to know all...and picking up ideas on how to make mandy happy
  5. I just recently got a 12 year old grey her name is mandy...I have had her for 3 days ...she isn't talking and alot of times refuses to step up...I know this could be because she is new...but last night she was on the cage door...I walked over to her and she went and got up on the top of the cage and put her beak between the bars and stared to stroke her foot ...something like what a bull does before he charges...I talked to her but she wouldn't stop..and now when I go over to her she goes back on top the cage and does it again and again....how long will it take her to get use to her new home
