Hi! I'm new to the board - with a Hyacinth and a Patagonian. I dream of a grey one day.
I bought some of the palm nuts from Gold Crown - hoping they were the type from Brazil. Turns out, the type of palm nuts from California grow in Lafayette, LA (they neighbor just trimmed his palm and threw the nuts in the trash).
Anyway, wondering how to best clean them before freezing? The flesh is tough to peel off - very fibrous and slippery.
So far the hyacinth just looks at us and throws the nut away - either with flesh or the peeled nut. Apparently its not sweet enough for her.
My hubby cracked one of the nuts with a hammer, but even that was looked at with disdain. Even the conure couldn't be persuaded. I tried the nut meat and found it to be pretty bland and like chewing wood.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Paula (on behalf of Tanzi and Indigo)
