So it's settled, Blueberry it is! Ryan
-
Wow Laura, your excitement is contagious... Ok, we no you have Noogie, your TAG, you have other birds too don't you? What are their names? I'm kind of partial to Blueberry for a new bird for you! Hehe! I need to see the bird to name it, I channel it's energy from the picture and dertermine what it wants to be called. LOL!
-
Chew straw? Now your losing me Jill. Like chewing hay? What? Who does that, really? I thought that was a stereo-type of American mid-Westerners... I know I'm going to hear it from someone on that, who knows how many people I just insulted! Now you and Bernie are going to get me in trouble! And, I still don't know what a pastie is??? Like a butterhorn? Mmmm, butterhorn, yum!
-
For those of you who feed your parrots peanut butter, what kind do you use? I'm not looking for name brands specifically, but do you use the yucky "natural" or the junkier, yummy stuff? Obviously you can see my preference is for the latter, which is why I haven't shared it with Paco yet...
-
Hmmmm, I've tried the chicken bones a few times with no success. Paco is scared to death of them, and you'd swear I was trying to feed him his mother the way he takes off running.
-
I love Noogie! Gave up on pie eh? LOL!
-
Sure sounds like he is copying you. I give Paco fruit teas, they aren't herbal or have caffeine, but he loves them. I use a small expresso cup and saucer just for him, although I hold it for him, it's difficult when you don't have arms! He loves having his tea with me!

The blueberry idea is interesting, what about some sort of nail polish on a talon, just an end...
-
Fantastic, and thanks for sharing your method!
-
Ha ha! Congratulations Mommy! I can't wait to hear the new stories, ahem! Seriously though, I'm very excited to hear the news for you.
-
Interesting Jill thanks, Paco has been the opposite lately, he can't be bothered with anything but his veggies. I've started chopping them fine with the food processor, steaming them for a couple of minutes and he is going wild for them. Spinach, brocolli, carrots, yams, green beans, red, green and jalepeno peppers...

Penny! It isn't the spoiled that got my reaction, but the thought of all the cage cleaning you must go through! I set aside several hours every Sunday for the big clean with the apple cider vinegar, your house would take me all day and several showers.
-
That might be tough, plus, and I'll wait to see what any of our breeders have to say, but I'd think that the band must go on when they have feet that are small enough to slip it over? I know in Canada you must belong to certain bird associations in order to get the bands at all, and even then, they sell them in bulk.

Haha! Lyn, that is so great! Keep up the good work Alphie, you have become Paco's mentor! He likes to watch you and even copies some of your routine (piggy snorts).
-
Oh Maggie, you guys are so lucky. I'm getting bites and the loudest crow caws I've ever heard the past two weeks...
-
I would like to think that is funny Bernie, but you lost me after eating pasties, I haven't got a clue from that point on.
-
Hahahahahaha! I love the way you ladies always dump on us guys, not that we don't dish it out ourselves, but I think we are a little out-numbered on here! In reality though, I do know of a couple who gave up their AG because the husband found it to be to destructive. Big regrets for the wife now, she is beside herself with grief, and resentful towards her husband. I too have told friends who looked at my new buddy with resentment to get over it, or get going, I made a lifestyle choice here, and they could either support me, or not, but the choice was theirs, 'cause I already made mine. My point being, your husband has to have more patience than what he is demonstrating. I hate when Paco caws like a crow, but at the same time, I can't help but marvel at the fact that he can do it! I'm ignoring it none-the-less and really getting excited with other noises/sounds that he is making. The cawing is lessening already...

You all broke my heart with these posts. For those of you who have taken on the rehomed birds, thank you. For the rest of us, this is a great reminder to treat our fids well, and to try to give them the happiest, most successful lives with us. On a side note, I have yet to recommend parronthood to anyone else. Anyone who meets my parrot and thinks he's "cool", I immediately start describing the work and patience, not to mention the expense in the hopes that they will not get one. I just can't stand the thought of people getting one on a trial-basis, my obsession with birds started when I was very young, and I waited a lot of years before actually making my dream come true. To bad there wasn't enforced cool-down periods for people to visit with the birds for a certain amount of time before they were able to adopt them... Or prove that they are actually bird people who know what they are getting themselves into.

Jill, Harvey flies, and is harnessed trained, why aren't you doing exactly the same thing every morning? Hehe... Enquiring minds want to know!

I agree with Penny, I bought what I thought was a large cage, the "Mediana" by Avian Adventures. It measures out at 34" x 24" x 40" H, I wish now I had gotten something larger, but this was the size that was recommended to me by the experts that I consulted with. I love that it has the playtop, and the cage is well made with excellent access to the bird from the main door, and the bowls from the outside, like I said, I just wish it was a bit bigger.

I concur, lovely post and picture. Thank you.

Hahahahaha! All I know is that I don't have an accent. I speak with perfect Canadian pronunciation. About becomes aboot, car becomes care, oh, and of course after every statement I will finish it off with 'eh, turning my statement into a question that I don't expect an answer to! But we still spell the way the Brits expected us to!

Yes, he will keep me in line I suppose. Which is a good thing considering I work within the justice system. I live on a fairly "main" artery, so, Paco likes to sit in his hanging gym which allows him to look out to the street as the emergency vehicles go whizzing by. I'm just glad he chose the police siren over the ambulance, I prefer the sound. It was strange that he did it while I was going faster than I should, but I've now started to say, "Who called the cops" after he does it. He seems to like that, and I figure it'll be amusing if I ever take him into work with me, or have friends from work over... Luckily, there has not been a repeat of the curse word, so I'm hoping I lucked out.
-
Paco is right there as well, he will only hold foods that won't get his feet dirty (basically pellets), and even then, it's only if he's being nosey and wants to keep an eye out on what is going on in the room.

Lyn, I agree, the one that you had pics posted of looked plenty large enough to me. Plus, it has great spacing on the bars, so Alphie can have a good look around. I've used my travel cage which is very similar to the one that you have for nearly a week on a trip to my parent's place. He got lots of time out and did great. Plus, if Alphie is anything like Paco, I'll bet she loves to hang upside down and flip in that cage.
