that is so gross! i feal sorry for your baby having bugs in his home. maby once u kill all the bugs...scrub the cage with dawn dish washing liquid, then rinse. then to be safe i would scrub the cage again with white vinegar and rinse again. then let the cage dry out in the sun.
-
great! yeah it is understandable that the cages would come with some cosmetic issues. those trucks dont have the best shocks lol. and the roads around here are horrible!
-
thanks so much! i will need the help on deciding i just cant make up my mind. lol. its so great to have yall so willing to help out! i will go look at that site now. how can i tell what sites to stay away from?

ok so i know i am a bit paranoid about buying a good quality cage online so i need some advice. the reason i am going the online route is the pet stores around here dont have any cages to my liking. has anyone ever ordered from ebay? i have seen some great cages but i am just so darn leery. im scared to either get scammed, or get something totally different from what i order. i have been scammed before and it was a horrible feeling. i dont want it to happen again.

well i havent really had trouble with any site...but i have been scammed out of alot of money from an online company before so i am a bit leery of buying online now. i was looking at birdcagesgalore.com, i looked it up on the bbb website and i couldnt find anything. the prices seemed too good to be true so i dont know what to think. but if you say this site is fine then i trust you. the pet shop that i have been going too doesnt have that many to choose from and their prices are HIGH!

does anyone have pointers on buying a cage online? do's and dont's? what to look out for?
-
ok so i got bad news today. the clutch i was waiting on isnt any good. i just about cried when they told me. so it means i might have to wait till after christmas to possibally get my baby. the breeder told me that all the breeders he knows have been having trouble getting good eggs this season. oh well the time will come when i can get one. :(

hello! im also kinda new to this site. its awsome btw. lots of great people with great advice and knowledge. your greys are beautiful! this site gets addicting fast! lol

my tiel does this thing where he walks along the top of his cage or the floor with his wings up but not fanned out and his head straight aligned with his body. we call him a big bad eagle when he does it lol. what does this mean?
-
ok he is cool then..i just tend to worry over the smallest things. that is so sweet that u have his last feather. tweety is my little buddy i hope he stay with us for a long time to come since he is only about 10 months old.
-
thanks, this is all great advice. i was kinda uneasy anyway about handfeeding, althought i did really want to learn. i will just have to ask the breeder to wean for me. or i will try to find one somewhere else. i already had trouble finding a breeder here, and he was the only one i could find. there is a grey here now at a pet store near by that is from the same breeder but they are asking double what the breeder wants. thats just nuts. it would be nice to bring home a baby and only have to worry about giving it lots of love and bonding with it vs focusing all my energy on making sure i am feeding it correctly and not trying to harm it. so if he says no he wont wean for me then i guess it wasnt ment to be! ill have to start looking all over. but it is all for the best for the bird. it is so nice to talk to experienced owners.

welcome welcome! i am new also to this site. i have been so warmly welcomed here by the awsome people on this site. i am also in the process of bringing home a new baby in the near future and have learned so much already just from reading the threads here. and it is nice to have people to give you advice and tell you their own experiences. good luck!

is it ok when my tiel preens he sometimes pulls out large feathers but they are hallow and white. is this ok? and is it ok for lots of those little white fluffy ones to fall all around his cage? he never plucks so im thinking this is normal?

Post edited by: jml0921, at: 2009/10/05 19:47

i live in south louisiana and there are cane fields ALL over the place! so i can feed this to my bird when i get him? can i give it to him raw? or does it have to be specially processed or something? because we eat sugarcan all the time when its in season. u just peel it, chew the sugar juice out of it and spit out the pulp! its really good. espically if u get it right out the field instead of off a truck

ok so i am really scared now about hand feeding. i was excited in learning. but i have been reading all day on the cons of hand feeding, and now im not so sure. the only thing is, is that my breeder does not wean the babies. he wants the owners to wean them so the babies can bond more. which i was so excited to learn to hand feed and he was going to teach me how and let me feed my baby when i went to visit. i know he is a great breeder (breeding since the 80's) and has even held seminars on breeding at the universities and out of state. i dont know what to do know. what to do? help!
-
it is exactly like expecting a new family memeber to arrive! i prepared and read and researched just as much while i was pregnant lol.
-
thank you all for the warm welcome!! i will talk more with my breeder to see if he will wean the baby for me. he also is going to give me some lessons in hand feeding and caring for a grey. he used to speak all over the south about breeding and raising greys. especially at the local schools. he is very recomended by people and i was even recomended to him by another breeder. i am not only excited about getting our new baby, but i am also a little apprehensive. i dont want to make any bad moves in bonding with it. i just want to do everything right and have a happy healthy grey. so thats why i turned to yall for support lol. i want my bird to love being with me and my family. thank you all so much again! i feel completly welcome!

hello all! my name is jess. my hubby, 2 boys and i are anxiously awaiting news to hear if the new clutch that was laid recently will give us our baby!! the breeder we chose will call when he knows for sure if we have a winner!!! we live in southern louisiana. we speak some cajun french and are looking forward to teaching our grey how to speak it.lol we were told by our breeder that we will be bringing her/him home at about 2 months..depending how the breeder feels. so i am looking forward to handfeeding. hopefully i can turn to yall in times of need. lol i am trying to teach myself everything i possibly can before hand so that i dont just jump in to this blindly. so im sure i will be bugging yall with tons of questions lol. currently i do have a lutino cockatiel named tweety! who is a doll and my little buddy. lol we are looking forward to him having a friend around.
