  1. He is a big baby. He weighs about 550g. I don't want to wean him now. But maybe he doesn't like his food. I think I'm going to buy another brand and see how it goes then. He is trying to climb up his cage as I'm writing this so he's obviously energetic which is good sign right?
  2. Hi guys. Just a question. Elvis is almost 9 weeks and he seems to have gone of his food. I introduced vegetables, pellets and parrotmix to him already. He doesn't like the pellets but the mix he picks at. I don't know if he actually eats anything. For the last couple of days he eats only about half of his dinner feed. In the mornings he practically attacks me and the spoon but in the afternoon he seems less hungry and at night nothing. Is he starting to wean himself?
  3. I gave him a little more this morning (about 45cc) and he seemed more satisfied. I'll see by this afternoon when he's due for his 2nd feed if he is less greedy. We watch his weight and he's 430g at this stage. He is a CAG. He sleeps alot but when he's awake he's very active. He tries to climb up his cage and he plays with his stuffed animal. So I think he's healthy but we'll just keep an eye on him. Thanks for the advice but expect alot more questions as this is our first AG and like your first child you panic about everything.
  4. Elvis is growing so fast and everyday he can do something else. He is a very greedy eater and it worries me that he is not getting enough food. He tries to grab the spoon or the bowl when he sees the food. The vet said we should keep him on 3 feeds a day as overfeeding can cause liver problems and trouble when we start weaning but he starts crying for a feed 2 hours before it's due. He is 7 weeks. What do you guys think?
  5. Hi all. I'm Marlise from South Africa. I live with my husband 3 kids, 2 dogs and our new baby CAG, Elvis (because my husband is an Elvis Presley fan). Thanks so far for all the help and hints. I'm totally new at this so there will be lots of questions and panic attacks. I will keep you updated on Elvis's antics.
  6. Thanks for the warm welcome. I will try to upload some pics today. After I fed him this morning, I sat with Elvis on my lap for a cuddle, he looked up at me and rubbed his head against my hand. Maybe he was just itchy but my heart went warm all over. I never had any kind of bird for a pet as I was so scared of them. My husband loves AG so I relented and we got Elvis and after just a week I am smitten with no fear in sight. Now I'm going to look for the welcome room to introduce ourselves.
  7. Our new baby (Elvis) has been with us for almost a week now. He is so cute. I think we all fell in love with him within the first hour. He is only 7 weeks old and on 3 feeds a day. The only thing I regret is getting him so young. Bonding with him at feeding times is lovely but because we don't know alot about handrearing its stressful. There are so many things that can go wrong if you don't know what you're doing. This forum has helped me tremendously but I wouldn't recommend handrearing to a novice. Elvis is still so young but his personality is huge and if something should happen to him we would be heartbroken. We visit the vet every other day just to make sure all is in order. I read everything I can about AG but I still feel that a lifetime wouldn't be enough time to learn about these beautiful creatures.
