1. The aviary has found a home. The new owner will use it to house three cockatiels. I am sorry I could not answer the volume of emails I recieved about this aviary. I posted this on Craigslist and got about 70 by the end of the day. I was wondering where all these people were when I was trying to sell it. I only wanted $800 for it but would have taken just about anything to get it out of my basement. Oh well.
2. Reposting item. I need to get this thing out of my basement! Please take it off my hands before I have to haul it off to the dump or burn it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ It's been awhile since I've been on here. Due to personal issues my wife and I had to give away our three African Greys a couple of years ago. We could not find buyers for them so we took them back to the pet store and they could not find buyers either and had to forefit them for room and board. Despite being my wife's birds, it broke my heart to see them go because I had become attached to them and they took up with me. My father built this aviary for them as a Christmas present for my wife and since not having the birds it has been in storage in our basement. Since we have no plans on getting any more parrots, we desperatly need the storage space in our basement. It measures 90" long X 70" high X 33" deep. it is made of oak and it very heavy. The front doors have glass inserts. The top and sides are covered with wire mesh and the sides with covered with plexiglass. The bottom has cleanout drawers. This isn't the best design for an aviary. My father built it based on what he thought it should be. There are gaps around the cleanout drawers but these could be covered with plywood and the dropping swept out. I repaired one of the drawers but the other one may need some work. The birds have chewed through the wire mesh but this can easily be replaced. The plexiglass was installed after the fact to cut down on bird dander. As you know parrots like the chew on things so there are bite marks on the inside but the exterior is in great shape. There might possibly be a nest box to go with it if I can find it. it would not take much to modify this aviary to suit your needs. Since my father put several weeks of time into making this for my wife, I would feel really guilty hauling this to the dump if I could not find a buyer. It does not include any toys or branches you see in the photo. I think my wife gave these to the pet store in exhange for keeping the birds. But you are welcome to any branches you may see on my property to take with you. Please take this off my hands! Call me 423-765-3722. Leave message with good time to call if I don't answer my cell phone. I live just outside of Kingsport, TN in the town of Mount Carmel.
3. Yes it is. You can get that wired mesh at Lowes or Home Depot.

5. This lady works at home and said she can spend allot of time and attention with them. So I'm happy about that.
6. My father built it for us about a year ago. We originally had two cages for each bird. Supposably a local lady is going to buy the birds as soon as she get's enough money. Yeah I hate to sell our birds but we just don't have the time to devote to them as they need.
7. We have two Congo African Grey Parrots for sale. One male 3 years old and a female 17 years old according to their bands. Price is $ 700 (OBO ) for each. However we will cut the price of the birds if you buy the aviary also. Both were purchased from a pet shop, both are in good health. The female is named Ruby The males name is Kikki. I also have a custom built aviary. $1500 or best offer. For larger photos goto this link: http://s222.photobucket.com/albums/dd148/turbofiat/Parrots/ Both are healthy and happy birds. My wife and I just don't have the time to devote to our parrots due to our work schedule. I have debated this for quite some time and hate to sell our birds but, I think this is the best thing for the birds. Both birds are very sweet and both are good talkers , they can say their names Ruby can count to 5 she also makes phone ring talks, laughs and hangs up.Kikki calls our dog by name they both are loads of fun . We know that they would be wonderful for someone who can give them lots of love and time ,My Wife and i hate to do this but we feel that they would be happier with folks who are able to be home with them more than we are.I am willing to sale the birds as a pair or seperatly. We do have a aviary as well as a parrot cage for sale if you buy both birds we will give you the parrot cage valued at 400.00 dollars. If you have any questions please call 423-765-8967. I'm located in North Eastern Tennessee outside of Kingsport, Tri-Cities area. Email jseabolt@embarqmail.com for more information.

Post edited by: jseabolt, at: 2009/12/27 22:38
8. All of these types of heaters/water heaters/furnances produced after a certain year have some sort of safety feature by law. So I'm not concerned about actual gas leaking if the pilot light goes out. What I'm concerned about is the amount of carbon monoxide it produces inside the house and the amount that it takes to kill a bird. As you know before monitors, coal miners would take canaries into the mines which would die from natual gas before it would kill humans. So I'm going on the same priciple.
9. If I were to put one of these heaters in the middle of the house (the hallway) to suppliment my heat pump during the winter, would this be safe for the birds? So the heater wouldn't be in the same room as the birds.

Seed moths

Every since we moved our parrots into an aviary, the seed moths have hatched like crazy. They did not seem to hatch when the birds were in separate cages. I had been buying their parrot food from PetSmart. Then I tried buying Hartz brand from Wal-Mart and the seed moths keep coming back. My wife looked up seed moths on some website and it said to put sticky traps in the corners. I'm just wondering if I can order any seed that has been treated that doesn't hatch these moths. Or anything else I can do about it. Thanks.
11. Hi, my name is James and this is my first posting. I have two parrots. One is a 16 year old female and the other one is 2 year old male. I keep both birds in a 5' X 32" X 9' aviary which is in an enclosed carport with lots of windows. The room is maybe 200 square feet. Because of our birds, our heating bill has hit the roof because this room was not figured in with our heatpump. In the summer it's not too bad because I just shut the room off the the rest of the house. After all these are tropical birds. But in the winter we had to leave a 1500 watt oil filled radiator heater on the entire winter to keep the room around 75F so our killowatt went out the roof. What I want to know is would it be safe to use one of those propane ventless heaters? Like this one from Northern Tools? http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200332739_200332739 My guess is no but wanted to get some opinions.
