  1. Young TAG seeking new home. I have CFS and cannot dedicate enough hands-on time to this lovely bird. Just starting to talk, loves to play, trained to stay on play stand. Eats a mixture of Harrisons and fresh foods. Somewhat shy of strangers, steps up well, used to being out of cage for periods of time every day. Many supplies, books, etc. to be included. Vet checked.
  2. Lisa, Really sorry about your "adventures" with Flying South. I was a little surprised to hear about their sale as I was under the impression they had had supply problems. I hoped things had turned around and they had more stock as it seems the people who have received them like it very much. Being as I'm so new to having a Grey (the baby is not even here yet!), I've found it really helps me to read about other's experiences. On at least one other forum I read some excellent feedback on Celltei so I decided to try them out for myself;) From everything I've read, customers are very happy with the overall construction and planning that has gone into the design. I'm hoping to use this to take him/her out into the world more than I'd be able w/out it. They recommended a small size for me but I'm getting a TAG. I, too, had excellent response from them with email and with phone. Should it get here in time we should be able to bring our new baby home in it. :cheer: Oh my gosh - I just realized I think we are going to be parronts in less than a week now....{Communicate-0002011B} Plink
  3. Let me try that link again... http://store.celltei.com/pakobird.html
  4. Cindy, Should this not work out for you and you are able to get your money refunded, have you considered the Pak-o-Bird by Celltei? I've just ordered mine and it is more expensive than what you've spent but I found the customer service fantastic. http://http://store.celltei.com/pakobird.html
  5. I currently use a homemade mash for our parrotlet's diet, supplementing with a little seed and lots of vegetables. The mash is a 2 to 1 ratio of grains to beans. For the grains I use some combo of wild rice, brown rice, buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa, wheat berries. For the beans I use mung, aduki, garbanzo and lentils. I combine the dry ratio and soak overnight, cooking it fully the next morning. I use a small scoop and make mounds on a cookie sheet, putting it into the freezer for a few hours so I can transfer to freezer bags. This lasts a few weeks and has worked out well. I also will sometimes sprout small amounts of the bean mixture and serve with the other foods. She often shares our morning oatmeal as well. Could I use this basic mash also with my AG? Larger amounts than I'm currently serving I'm sure...though our little parrotlet does herself proud in the eating dept... I would have to include nuts as I don't do that now, and also eggs look to be good. Anything else to be suggested? Our baby is supposed to come home weaned onto Goldenfeast (I haven't looked into that yet) and I can use that to gradually transition to these other foods. I also happily found some unrefined red palm oil at the health food store yesterday.

  8. {Love-0002011E} Happy Hatchday, Ana! I'm on the cusp of becoming a tag parront myself and have loved reading back on your first year. Scritches and birdy hugs. Plink

  10. We visited a baby (+/- 9 weeks) last week and after he had been playing out about an hour we took him onto our lap. He kept trying to put his head under our shirt or hand, whatever he could find, to go under. It didn't seem like it was for scritches, more for hiding or burrowing. He didn't seem sleepy. Probably a silly question but, what's that about? Plink
  11. Dave007 wrote: Thank you, Dave, for your explanation. It is helpful to understand the larger picture. Have you, or others, heard of this practice on a much smaller home-based scale? I found my situation unusual as this person does breed and sell her own smaller birds. One of my mistakes was in assuming that to be true for all of her babies. (Sometimes I feel like my life exists in order to show others how _not_ to do something...) Btw, she isn't trying to get me to take my bird home early, at least not yet. She explained (though only after money had changed hands... my mistake again) that she gets the baby from a breeder she "trusts" at around 5 or 6 weeks and then finishes the weaning. But the baby did have to be flown in... I had not known about this possibility until I went through it. Is there a manner of finding out what quality this baby is? She offers a one year health guarantee, for what that is worth. Also, there is the 48 hour vet visit after we would bring the baby home. Are there known locations for where these bird mills operate? Would it be possible to know this from the band?
  12. I'm looking at having a few different types (wood, rope, etc.) of perches for our young timneh when he/she comes home :cheer: at the end of the month. Can someone help me out with what diameter I should use? 3/4 or 1 inch? Also, do you find your bird likes swings? tia, Plink
  13. Dave007 wrote: Hi Dave, I've had a little different experience as our tag turned out to be older than I was originally told. Also, I was led to believe the breeder had the baby on site but after I sent my deposit I found out it had to be flown in from another breeder. That took weeks longer than I was told. Turns out the place I'm buying from does not raise them from eggs but only finishes the hand-feeding (is that common?). I thought I had done a lot of research and asked the correct questions but it turns out I have a lot to learn. I could still walk away (though we've just met the little sweetie and it would be difficult...) but I would lose my deposit. I'm trying to understand why a breeder would lie, or at least mislead people. What could they be trying to hide? best, Plink
  14. I'm "attempting" to attach some pictures...
  15. Hello everyone, I've been browsing your site for more than a month now in preparation for a baby TAG that our family is welcoming at the end of August. What a friendly and happy place you've all created - thank you! There is such a wealth of information here that I have to force myself to take breaks in order to attend to my current companions... My partner and I live in NY with our son who is 11. We have our own little "zoo" here - two small elderly dogs, two gerbils, a young corn snake, and a parrotlet named Sweetie who is about to turn one. Oh, and not to forget the snails and various other critters that spend an evening or two in our "B & B" courtesy of the 11 year old... I've wanted an AG since I was in my teens and life has arranged itself recently so that I could finally make a dream come true. We at long last got to meet our baby just yesterday for the first time. {Feel-good-000200A2} We spent about two hours just hanging out - wow, was it ever hard to leave. best, Plink
