  1. I don't have the ones with the loose sand or covers either. I have two in the cage at the moment and have had them for quite a while. So far Sam's feet are just fine, but I'll keep a watch.
  2. Thanks for the "heads up". I have two Sandy perches which Sam uses, plus a terracota one which is made locally. So far, no feet problems at all, but I'll keep a watch on that.
  3. Thank you so much! I'll order a medium then as well.
  4. If anyone uses the Sandy Perch, do you choose the medium or large. I have large in my cage but I notice on the Sandyperch website they recommend medium. I want to buy some more because they are not available here in South Africa and I would like to know which is the correct size.
  5. Just a report back. The new cage arrived yesterday late afternoon delivered by an avian expert! It turned out to be black (not my favourite colour choice, but all they had available). The avian expert enticed Sam onto the new cage where I had put some food that I knew he loves and some of his favourite Nalani toys (the poodle one). He settled down after about one hour and slept in it without any problems or concerns last night. I was flabbergasted. I thought that it would take weeks for him to become accustomed to a new colour cage. My cousin now will be fixing the other cage to stand higher off the ground and Sam will have a choice as to which cage he would like to be in. I'll fit both of them out with the water bottles he likes, toys he loves and he can go from one to the other. I love my bird! He's so cool.
  6. I have this one A26 in white at the moment (see link below), but the dogs are lifting their legs (I have two young brothers) on the cage. I have a towel and newspaper hanging around the bottom of the cage to prevent any dog pee from getting into the cage. This is the reason I want to lift the cage off of the floor. (Once I have a new cage for him, I'm going to get my cousin to modify the current cage by taking some of the bottom off, enclosing the play area and lifting it higher, so then Sam will have two cages.) This is the one I am thinking of getting for him (A23) - it will be a bronze type colour. Apparently it is difficult to buy white cages now here in South Africa, because the fashion is darker colours. Can you believe that? I guess no-one cares what the animals prefer! http://www.tavs.co.za/ing%20parrot%20cages.htm or instead of the A23 this one.
  7. Thanks a million. I'm going to give it a try. It is expensive the one I am wanting to get, for us here in South Africa at least.
  8. Hello, I'm from South Africa and have had an African Grey (Sam) for about 3 or so years now. I also have 9 Siberian huskies. I have to keep Sam contained most of the day because of the Siberians. He is in a decent size cage and sometimes I bring him out to be with me in the evenings while I watch some TV. I am needed to replace his cage as I would prefer to have one off the ground. He has always been in a white cage and someone told me African Grey's do not like darker coloured cages. Is this true? And if it is not, how would he take to a new cage? Hope someone can help: Merle Melvill merle@denalibelay.com
