  1. I don't mind...she is a friend of mine and is a breeder of several types of birds. However, she was in a severe accident last year and was not able to spend the time he needs. He has been in his cage for over a year. Her greys are starting to lay again and she offered me him or a hatchling. I chose him. Yes, she hand fed him and worked with him up until her accident. He has a lil fight to him, but for the most part it seems he does what I ask him. He does not like to be taken out of his cage but he has come out on his own. He was on top of his cage last night and my boyfriend got him to step up after 20 minutes of talking to him to put him to bed. Once he got him on his hand, Jeff (bf) decided it would probably be best to let him wonder on the floor for a little while (YummYumm seems to like that). Jeff did this so YummYumm would not associate coming off the top of his cage to going directly into his cage. Will keep you all updated. hoping ot have pics soon
  2. Me too! He's my baby but not really a baby...he will be 19 months old on Aug 8th. So yes he is still very young for Greys but not a new born...I rehomed him...and he is unsexed B)
  3. Thanks...I will keep u all updated...have a gr8 day
  4. Thank you...it has been a wonderful day. He wouldn't come out of his cage this morning, but he was playing with his toys. Early afternoon he wondered out and would step on me. He just met my bf this morning and he ended up stepping up on him several times...now he has been on the top of his cage (he got up there himself) for a few hours. I just tried to step him up but he won't so I am just letting him be. Will try to get pics posted this week. {Feel-good-00020114}
  5. AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! He's been here 2 hours now...he came right to me...his 'old' owner left about an hour ago and he doesn't want to be away from me. He climbed up on my shoulder (I was leary) but it was good. I got some pics but have to take them to wally world to get uploaded. I will try to do that soon. I was sitting on the floor and he was walking around and wouldn't go far away from me, after a couple minutes he would come back to me and climb up on my leg...words can't decribe the feeling. He is now in his cage for the second time. I put him in it for about 5 minutes, he didn't move an inch from where he stepped down. He now has climbed onto the big purch and has poked at his toy once or twice (lol just heard the bell so he poked it again). He's got to be exhausted his bed time is around 930 (its 1242 now). I know its past mine. I think I am going to go talk to him for a little while, close the door, and try to get some sleep. Will keep you updated. {Feel-good-000200BB}{Feel-bad-0002006A} tears of joy<br><br>Post edited by: YummYumm09, at: 2009/08/02 06:46
  6. OMG!!!! She is bring him down right now...I mean he will be here in like 15 minutes...I will post more tomorrow!!!
  7. Thanks for your help...I have read through and printed a lot...Dam...my boyfriend is going to be jelous...I don't cook for him like I will be for YummYumm...but as I am finding the foods I want to give him all many of the ones we humans eat, so he (bf) will be able to eat better too lol...I will just let him (bf) think I am cooking for him (bf) lol Oh and I don't know the sex of YummYumm but the name just seems like a boy so, it's a boy for now...until I decided to get him sexed. Well, off to the grocery store (Getting a Harley ride in today too - not going to want to ride tomorrow. lol)
  8. lol...I didn't sleep last night lol...I just sent her a message to see if I could get him tonight...I was thinking it would be nice to have our fist night together with being able to have the whole next day together because I have to work Monday.
  9. Thank you...I know things will go the way they are suppose to go but...I am just so nurvous.
  10. YummYumm comes home tomorrow...I found out that the only thing he has had to eat is pellets. She has never given him anything else.(except the peanut I gave him the other night when I was there ) How do I start introducing new foods to him and when?
  11. I thought he was 2 years-old, but I found out his hatch date is Jan 8, 2008. So he is almost 19 months old. My last visit we had him out(she gets him out with a towel....ugh I hate that). After I put him back in his cage I tryed to get him to stepup on my hand from inside his cage and he did it with no problem. I think it was because he was just out, but leaving the door open is what I planned on doing. I am not going to force him to do anything he doesn't want to do, I know I need to build our trust. His owner told me that she tried to get him out before she went to bed that night and he wouldn't do it. She said she thinks we are bounding already and that he has taken a liking to me WOOHOO!!
  12. Thank you...It's bigger than what he has now...he doesnt come out on his own at his current home...now I am affraid he will like it in there too and won't want to come out. lol...worry worry worry...it will be what it will be
  13. I can not believe the way things have been happening for me. I found out 2 weeks ago I was not going to bring YummYumm home until mid-October. I was so upset, but things were out of my control. I found out last night that as soon as I got a cage I could get him (post in 'Cages & Homes what I got him). So, I got the cage today and he is coming home SUNDAY!!!! 36 hours and YummYumm will be in his new home...wow...now I'm scared...will I be a good mom? Will I know what to do? OMG all these scary thoughts!!! Thanks for listening.<br><br>Post edited by: YummYumm09, at: 2009/08/01 05:51
  14. I finally purchased YummYumm's cage today...I can not believe the deal I got...50% off...I ended up getting it at a local pet store. Here's a factory pic. I will take a pic soon and post his new 'home'. http://prevuepet.com/item-info.asp?Category_id=0&Product_ID=1520
  15. After the previous post...I guess we can now say it is ok to purchase a cage on ebay as long as one looks at details and the seller... So, here is my question...I have included the links to the 2 cages I am looking at...however, I need some understanding on the importance of heigth. The cage YummYumm is in now is 25x25x43. http://cgi.ebay.com/30-Parrot-cage-bird-cages-stand-birds-Perch-wi3031-2_W0QQitemZ120452641731QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0b8973c3&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262 http://cgi.ebay.com/24-x22-PARROT-bird-cage-CAGES-African-Grey-birds-00127_W0QQitemZ120453354550QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0b945436&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262 Thanks everyone for your help!! 16. congrats...I have never had a Grey flown but I did have my MinPin (Miniture Pincher) flown from Idaho to Virginia in August. Took us 3 weeks to get the day set. Actually, the breeder went to the airport 4 days in a row to try to get him out. The airlines will not allow animals to be flown if the ground temperature is over 80 degrees or something close to that. Because they ride where the luggage is and there is no air conditioning and temperatures can reach up over a 100 degrees when sitting out on the runway waiting to take off or landing. This is my experience with animals thought I would let you know. also, my dog flew a commercial flight...might be different flying on a cargo flight. Again, congrats...and I know how the waiting is...I've been waiting a month for YummYumm to come home and still no date yet.
  17. Thank you...that's what I thought...everyone I have talked to said it was pretty amazing that he came to me like he did for it being the first time he has been out of his cage for over a year. She also clipped his wings when she had him in the towel. I felt so bad for him...it must had been tramadic for him...that is probably why he came to me, to get a way from her lol. Well we will see how tonight goes...she is not going to be in the room when I am there so he can get to know me with out her around. The current owner (breeder) said he was very lovable when she was working with him before. I hope he still will be for me.
  18. I thought so as well...however the first one is the same cage he is in now, so I was considering it because of it might seem familuar to him... wish there was a spell check on this lol

    Flying...

Hi Everyone...I found out that YummYumm is not 2 years old...his hatch date is Jan 8, '08...so that puts him at 18 months old (almost 19). I also found out the breeder clipped his wings at a VERY young age and that he has NEVER flown. The things I have read it sounds to me that flying at least knowing how to fly is a very important part of a birds growth and stability. (Ghee I wonder why...birds are ment to FLY lol) So, my question is should I let his wings grow out (once I get him home) and try to teach him how to fly and if so how the heck would I go about teaching how to fly. Or should I just keep his wings clipped. Also, I am able to see him once a week and tonight is the night. I have about 30 mins to an hour with him...he comes to me and will let me hold him...what should I do with him...this will only be the third time him ever seeing me and the second time I have had him out of his cage...I don't like how she gets him out (towel). Any input would be gr8...thanks a bunch.
  20. Very nice...not looking to spend that much right now...I am trying to keep the cage around the same size as YummYumm is use to cause he's been in it for over a year. Once I gert him home and adjusted I may upgrade to a larger cage. The one seller I saw had some negative feed back however, they have something like 117 PAGES of feed back with only 17 reported as negative...I didn't think that was too bad.
  21. Or this one... http://cgi.ebay.com/Bird-Parrot-cage-Macaw-Cockatoo-African-Grey-Q32-2422-S_W0QQitemZ150361008474QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item230236e95a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
  22. This is too funny...I have been looking for a cage for YummYumm on eBay and thinking the same thing about if I should or not. Thanks for asking the question. I have yet to purchase a cage but am finding several that I like on ebay...I do know from experience with ebay sellers. We need to make sure we don't just go by the pictures. There are some sellers out there that will show different items than the actual one being sold. Read the fine print. I also have seen on there where there are several for free shipping. Ones that are not I have found to be as much or more than buying from a local store. Because ebay has no regulations on shipping charges the seller can charge what ever amount they choose. Just be careful, I know I am liery. I also have gone to my local pet stores and looked at cages, this allows me to "see" sizes and shapes. I am a visual person so this helps me when looking at a pic on line. Thanks again for asking this question. PS...this is the cage I am considering...what do you think? http://cgi.ebay.com/Large-New-Bird-Parrot-Cage-Cockatiel-Conure-32-x20-x53_W0QQitemZ260450229917QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ca40b1e9d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
  23. Yes it is Cait...Thank you...my profile pic is of us together on his first trip out.
  24. I don't know hardly anything because I don't even have my Grey yet...but maybe someone else can comment on what I am about to say whether it is a good idea or not... But, I have been through a divorce before so I know its not easy...however...I am sure the other Grey might be having trouble adjusting as well, so it might be worth asking your ex if the 2 could have a play date...seeing eachother might help both greys out. What do the more expirenced owns think?
