I just googled the bulkl kicking behavior because my grey does it and came across this thread! apparently it must be a semi-normal grey behavior because my grey does the same thing, grabs the cage with his beak and kicks like a bull. He seems to do this when he wants out or if I won't let him into something that he wants to get into. its too funny!

The tree was ver 3 stries tall so a ladder wouldnt have helped. When I saw him land it was at the very top of the tree. We even got up on the roof of the building to try to look for him but the leaves were so thick we couldn't see anything and Kasuku wasn't answering our calls.

I am going to call the vet tomorrow morning and get him in. He seems ok. He is pooping all over the place so he must have been eating something in that tree! Wanna make sure whatever it is wasn't harmful.

KASUKU IS HOME!! I got a call today from the motel next door to my apartment which is where the tree was that I saw Kasuku land in. He was still in the tree! He had climbed down low enough that she culd see him, just about 1 story up. I left work earloy and when I got there I went up 1 level and he flew right to me! Oh God I am so happy to have him home!!! He is so thirsty and hungry and tired but he won't leave me! lol I keep having to give him food and water from my lap!

Went back after dinner and still nothing. I have ads out all over the place and word with all the vets, petstores, and rescues/pounds. I've been sending shout outs across the web and my breeder is sending them on her message boards as well. My neighbors even went door to door so almost the entire apartment complex is on the lookout. Everyone has been amazing in helping me, bringing me cold drinks while I'm out in the heat looking for him and organizing their own searches for me. I am amazed at the good in people! I am printing out flyers tomorrow and will pin them up after work. I hope something comes soon. In the mean time I will keep searching at dawn and dusk when he is most likely to be out and vocalizing. I just hope my baby comes home! People keep saying "All that money wasted." But they don't understand, I would pay that money again in a heartbeat if it meant bringing him back home!

Thank you everyone. It has been a very hard day. Lots of tears. I will keep you posted if anything changes

thanks. I am devistated. I saw him land in a tree and haven't seen him leave so I've been camped out under this tree since 9 this morning. My neighbors have all been walking around the area with binoculars looking for him, and his breeder is on her way here to try to frind him too. I am not sure where palm beach county is, but st. pete is near tampa, west side of florida about 1/2 way down.

Hello everyone I just brought my baby CAG home about a week ago and he is lost already. :-( His wings were clipped at the breeder's before I brought him home but somehow he still flew away today. If you know anyone in the St. Petersburg, FL area, please have them keep a lookout for him. His name is Kasuku and he was lost in North Redington Beach, FL I have already notified all the Vets and animal control people I could find numbers for and have put lost ads out for him. If anyone finds him they can contact me at 727-421-6380 Thanks everyone!

I work at Verizon. There is no way they would let me take the bird to a corporate store. The big shots show up unexpectedly so there would never be a safe time for him to be there. I couldn't have her take him to her house because I would be dropping him off during her business hours. Plus, she has a brid of her own who was rescued and has a lot of behavioral issues that I A) don't want my bird to pick up on, and B) having Kasuku there would cause her bird to act out from jealousy. I will probably just have to find somewhere else to take him. That's the problem with living in a new area where you don't know people though. :-(

Hey all! My apartment does pest control inside once every other month. A friend of mine offered to care for my bird on those days so that I could get Kasuku out of the house. I already checked with my vet and he said that having him out of the house for a few hours should be plenty. My question is, she owns a dive shop and would be taking my grey to work with her on those days. She is also a bird owner and used to breed, so I know she will not do anything that day that would harm Kasuku, such as work on equipment or use chemicals, but she was concerned with the sound of the air compressor when they fill scuba tanks, as it can get extremely loud. Kasuku wouldn't be in the same room as the machine, but it is still a very loud sound. Also, when people bring their tanks in and open them to empty the air, that also creates a very loud sound. Would this be a safe environment for my baby? I am concerned because I don't really have any other options on where to take him on those days.

Can't wait to see pictures of your new baby! It just hit me today...it's July! I get to bring my baby home at the end of the month! Well, assuming he weans fully by the end of the month, I will! YAAAAAY!

We have having him DNA'd. The woman I am buying it from thinks it may be a boy from the physical features, but obviously that's not fool proof. She DNA's all the babys she sells.

I tried to call the vet today, but caught them during their lunch hour, so I will have to call them again tomorrow. My tiels were ok the first time they sprayed. I kept them in my room with the towel under the door and they were fine, but again, better safe than sorry!

Meet baby Kasuku II! He was very cuddly today and gave tons of kisses (though I am sure the "kisses" were him just thinking I was feeding him! lol) He is starting to explore things with his mouth and spent a lot of time chewing on my fingers! Very cuddly! He liked to rub his beak on my nose, I thought it was so cute! He would close his eyes and nuzzle againt my nose...love at first sight, definitely!

I was originally planning to put the bird in my room and put a towel under the door (they don't spray the bedrooms) but I ca;;ed the pest control company today to find out what checmical they use to spray with and he said it changes all the time. I'm not taking any chances, so I called a friend and she said I am welcome to take my grey to her shop when they spray and she will take care of him for the day.

Well, I met my new baby today! I decided against Nkusu. After doing some research I realized that I was pronouncing the name wrong. I was saying "Nah coo soo" When it is actually pronounces "Nnn coo soo" I asked the baby if that was his name and he hacked at me, so I take that as a no! Kasuku it is! I have a picture of him, I am going to post it as soon as I figure out how! lol Oh and she is guessing that it is a boy, since he has dark feathers and a flat head. lol We will find out for sure when the DNA comes back!

I have gotten so used to say Nkusu that Kasuku sounds strange now. I think it's gonna be Nkusu! Plus, I really like the fact that it would be a Congo name for my Congo Grey. :-) Unless, of course, the little cag shows me a better name with it's personality! I get to meet it tomorrow! Pictures will definitely follow!! I think she is sending DNA off this week, so I should know what my baby is soon!

Everyone's so welcoming here! :-) Thanks everyone!!

*sigh* Names are another issue entirely! I have a post open about it, here's the link ( I don't want to repost the issue here and have a redundant post going on!) http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-grey-lounge/144952-name-issues.html

Definitely can't! I have wanted a grey all of my life (a whole 27 years! lol) so this is a big accomplishment for me! A big adjustment as well since I have 2 new cockatiels and a 7 year old dog at home! The dog tries to interact with the tiels so I am hoping he will become good friends with the grey as well. The tiels aren't tame yet, so it's hard for my dog to become close to them. If anyone has any tips for me, I am worried a little about socializing. I live alone and don't have many friends. I rarely have visitors to the house and when I do they aren't bird lovers like me and probably won't interact with them. I am also concerned when my dad comes to visit since the cage is out in the living room, where my dad will sleep. He hates birds! The cage is too big to fit through my bedroom door, so I can't move the grey temporarily. Would it be ok for me to get a small cage or a play stand for him to sleep in/on sometimes? I also need to find a way to move him into my room on pest control days since my apartment has the pest control people come once a month to spray indoors.

Hey everyone! My name is Jennifer, I am new on here! I don't have my CAG yet, he/she is still being weaned. I get to bring it home next month or the beginning of August. I am already impatiently waiting with my big, empty cage in my livingroom! lol I have owned a quaker parrot in the past, and currently have 2 rescued cockatiels that just came to me, but this is my first large parrot. I have a great avian vet already and am definitely planning to get the baby fully checked out as soon as I get it! I should also find out soon what the sex is so I can stop calling it an "it!"

I will go introduce myself now. :-) Thanks!
