  1. Believe it or not, her kennel name was Crusty Sue or Crusty Lou, I can't remember which. She came in with her sister who was also in terrible shape. Both with ears that appeared to be fly or flea bitten, and thus crusty looking. They were also bald due to malnutrition, and sadly only Sweet Pea recovered fully. It's very difficult to find foster homes for senior pugs with around the clock medical needs. Sweet Pea alone takes 5 different meds, 4 times a day, and eats 5 to 6 times a day, partly to help her learn to eat small portions and to digest her food properly. She obviously never knew when her next meal was coming, so she begs constantly for food. I'm hoping she outgrows this behaviour. But oh well, that's the nature of the beast!!!
  2. Thanks to you all for a warm welcome. My flock is definitely a mixture of misfits!!! I used to specialise in rehab and rescue of blind and deaf pugs, and that somehow turned into rehab and rescue of birds and buns too. Dini's best mates are a blind, pink-eyed bunny named Niko, which you can see as my profile photo, and a blind and deaf senior pug age 20 named Sweet Pea, which you can see pictured here: Thanks again Dee for helping me post photos successfully! I'll PM you shortly OK?<br><br>Post edited by: mikio, at: 2009/12/29 01:35
  3. Photo 3: Dini, 5 years old, I took this photo a few days ago. Isn't he gorgeous!?! Now this bird is the love of my life. After 45+ years of rehab and rescue service, he is the ONLY bird I kept as a pet. He does therapy work, and speaks Japanese, Portuguese, and English fluently. He doesn't sing like Laku, but he's the hit of my pet therapy programme. I was hoping to groom Sasha as his successor, but that doesn't look very promising. Besides not liking birds, she hates cars and carriers. Thankfully she loves people. She's timid at first, but she'll get over that. I hope.
  4. Photo 2: Dini, perched for the 1st time, looking mean and fierce!!!
  5. OK, that didn't work. Here are the photos in SEPARATE posts. My apologies. Photo 1: Dini, far left, 5 days old (his siblings are to his right, 3 and 1 day old). They were thrown in a trash by a breeder. Dini was the only one to survive.
  6. Well, there's a snag in that theory. Sasha does not like Laku. In fact, she doesn't like my budgie either. But at least with Dini, she doesn't try to BULLY him around. He's quite a savvy little stinker. I raised him from Day 1. Here's some pix of him:
  7. In all her glory, here is Sasha my monkey timneh, killing a pinata!!!
  8. OMG it worked!!! As you can see, my cockatiel loves the gym!!!
  9. OK, so I buy her this new gym, and she HATES it!!!
  10. Yes, that's where I resized it, several times. I'm glad to know this is normal grey behaviour. But really, she hangs from my shirt too, what about that? Actually, for a breeder of 18 years, I'd say she's just loving life as a bird. When she first came to me, she looked at her toys as if to say, "How do I mate with that?" Now she's destroying everything in sight, and quite frankly it's impossible to keep up with replacing them. But, she is cute, and very happy to be free. I hope.
  11. OK, here's my SECOND (actually third) attempt at posting a photo, thanks Dee!!! WELL IT DIDN'T WORK!!! I REDUCED THE SIZE, AND STILL NADA!!! I GIVE UP!!! I'll change my profile photo so you can see what I mean. It's really, really cute!!!<br><br>Post edited by: mikio, at: 2009/12/27 22:31
  12. Is it OK for my timneh to hang upside down like a monkey? She does it all the time. She'll even get on my shoulder, slide down the back of my shirt, and just dangle off my belt. Is there any room for concern toward this adorable antic? Regards, Mikio P.S. I'm going to attempt to attach a photo of my monkey timneh, but I can't guarantee I'll be successful. If I'm not, would anyone care to instruct me?<br><br>Post edited by: mikio, at: 2009/12/25 06:33
  13. Is lactose free rice milk OK for my timneh? She loves it. She gets into my cereal bowl every morning to take a sip. Also, she loves Cheeries. It's cute. And I have started to use the milk as a way to get her to bow her head for a scratch. She'd NEVER let me do that before I gave her milk. For that reason I'm apt to continue. Any thoughts?
  14. Hi Dave, Thanks for the info. It got really hot last night, out of the blue, so that's probably it. I didn't think it was a breeder issue, as a brood patch is usually on the chest, not the neck. Anywho, she's none the wiser to be quite frank. She's not picking at it at all. However, I will continue to monitor her trays to see if feathers continue to drop. I really thought it was a temperament issue, but as I've posted previously, she's pretty easy going. She may be coming out of her shell though, who knows, the terrible twos could be right around the corner. Oi! Best brace myself eh. LOL! Regards, Mikio
  15. Hi All, This morning Sasha plucked out her neck feathers, both sides, but not enough to be obvious. I just wanted to know is this a breeder thing? She was a breeder. Regards, Mikio
  16. Joolesgreyuk, My birds have plenty of water, inside and outside of their cages, and they are misted every 15 minutes on hot days. Everything is on timers based on an auto barometer. I just love technology. This is why I was concerned, but not now. Regards, Mikio
  17. Char, Thanks for your input. My TAG was just fine this morning. Take care. Mikio
  18. Thanks for the advice. I figured there was nothing to worry about. It's just that she got overheated in a blink of an eye. Odd since she wasn't in the sun, nor was her room too terribly heated. It's been hotter, but never has she been like this.
  19. Hello All, Quick question, is there any need for concern if my TAGs talens got hot all of a sudden? In fact, even her beak. CA weather has been up and down lately, making it difficult to decide on a fan or a heater, so today I used neither. It was fairly a nice day, and I wasn't out for long, but when I got back, I noticed her talens and her beak were hot. Her character hasn't swayed any. She's still happy-go-lucky. She was heating, drinking, playing, etc. Any thoughts? Any comments? Help!!! Regards, Mikio
  20. Hello All, I'm a new mum of a timneh as of Mother's Day. She is an older timneh but you would never know it. She is calm, quiet, and a FANTASTIC eater. She is not fussy in the least. She growled when I first met her but now she has settled in nicely. She was hatched and hand raised by her owner some 15 years ago. Her parents abandoned her and her brother in the nest box so she received human imprinting early on. She knows how to step-up and step-down so bonding has been easy. She was spayed as a 2 year old so technically she has never been a breeder. She served more as a surrogate to babies in need. Sadly, her cage mate passed away a year ago. That's when her owner pulled her and brought her indoors to be a pet. Fortunately for me she didn't get on with dogs and kids. I have neither that can harm her. Mine are deaf and blind. A dog and bunny that is. So there is my brief story about my new timneh. I still have no name for her as it has to come to me. Regards, Mikio
