Well I have had my 8 year old CAG for 2-3 weeks now and in the beginning things went well. He was regurgitating and would step up. My husband started interacting with him and now he wants nothing to do with me. He regurgitates for my husband but not for me. A few days ago he attacked my hand when he was perched on my hand. Not sure why. But he is also starting to bite my husbands hand too. He was fine the first week and now he has changed. When i get near his cage he puffs out his feathers like he is pissed. Also when we try to put him back in his cage he starts biting really hard. I am at the point where i don't even want to stick my hand anywhere near him. I don't like taking him out of his cage any more because he will take off flying and I am scared to have him step up. One day he wouldn't let go of my hand and it hurt so bad! Hi, My name is Tarah and I recently just purchased my first african gray, Harley. He is 8 years old and I got him from some guy who didn't have time for him. He didn't give me a whole lot of info on him other than he likes grapes and bananas. We live in Arizona and are dreading the summer that is quickly approaching! I am so glad I found this place. I have been so worried about what/ when i should try to interact with Harley. Thanks to the greats posts, I think I have made some progess!!

Well I think I made some progess.... I opened his cage to see what he would do as I sat on the couch next to him. He tried to get as close to me as possible. (he was hanging on the outside edge of his door which is where I was sitting) So I sat on the floor and extended my arm to him. He would only put one hand on my arm and then regurgitate food on my arm. A little gross, but it was better than nothing. I am assuming he wouldn't actually step up on my arm due to him not fully trusting me, I guess. I was rearranging some toys in his cage and he would just follow me where ever I went. I would assume thats a good sign too, right? I am just glad he wasn't interested in attacking my arm!

I haven't tried to open the cage door to see what he will do. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea yet since I've only had him a few days. I didn't want him to escape. I haven't stuck my hand in the cage yet either. I didn't know how soon I should try. I was reading other peoples post about how their bird is cage aggressive and makes weird noises when they get close. The only noise that Harley makes (that I think is weird) is a clicking noise. Not sure what that means. Otherwise everytime I come up to his cage he immediately comes over to me and starts whistling and regurgitating his food. He won't really take any treats from my hand yet. and if he does, then he drops it on the floor. Everyones posts have been really helpful! Thanks guys!!

Hello, I just purchased my African grey (Harley) over the weekend and I am unsure as to when I should try to get him to perch on my arm. He is 8 years old and the previous owner didn't spend much time with him. He is already regurgitating food for me so thats a good sign. But the other day he put his head down for me to rub it and then bit my finger. Some advice would be great! Thanks!!
