1. Ziggy doesn't want to eat much of anything but seeds. She throws all pellets out of the cage (I have tried organic and fruit zupreem, roudybush, harrisons, and a few others). She does eat a little hard-boiled or scrambled egg, shredded cheese, green grapes, brussels sprouts and a few other fruits and veggies once in a while. I'm worried about her nutrition. I have tried cutting back on the seed mix to up the percentage of the pellets, but she still threw all the pellets out. I left them on the bottom of the cage thinking she might get hungry and retrieve them, but didn't work. I even tried pretending to eat pellets to get her to think they were delicious people food - HA, she didn't fall for that! Any suggestions for a finicky eater? Thanks, NuNu PS I promise I'm going to figure out how to post pictures one of these days.
2. Thanks everyone for the great ideas. Ziggy now has wood blocks from a 4X4 board - I drilled holes in them and strung some on a rope, and some I left loose and put treats in the hole. I also got a small tree branch and made a perch for her playstand, and hung some small wood, wicker and raffia toys from it. I found she also likes to chew soft plastic toys that belonged to the dog before Ziggy claimed them. So I bought a few for her, for foot toys. This all keeps her pretty occupied. If she gets down on the floor, the entertainment armoire and dining room china cabinet still lure her, but I can get her distracted now. Again, thank you!
3. I've had Ziggy for about three weeks now (I adopted an older bird) and things are going really well. She has accepted me as flock leader very quickly, and is quite affectionate. I'm still learning her food preferences by looking at the floor around her cage - she tosses anything that doesn't suit her fancy. When I got her, the cage and her toys came with her. She has zero interest in the toys, nor any of the recent additions I bought. She wants to be out of her cage, walking around on the floor. But she wants to chew all the wood baseboards and furniture - I'm amazed at the damage she can do in a few seconds! What can I get for her that will satisfy the need to shred wood? I think she'd probably love some particleboard that looks like pressed wood chips, but it is likely full of harmful things. Any suggestions will be appreciated. NuNu
4. Thanks for all the welcomes messages!:cheer: I appreciate all the nice and helpful posts. Things are still going smoothly with Ziggy - she's on my shoulder now. She danced "with" my grandson for several songs this morning. She can really "get down" and shake her tail feathers. I am technology impaired, but hopefully will be able to post some photos and maybe even a dancing video in the future. Thank you again - this seems like a friendly and helpful group.

Post edited by: NuNu, at: 2009/04/28 16:28
5. Hi, I'm NuNu (or Grandma Kathy) and the excited new owner of an adopted Timneh female. Ziggy is about 17 years old and had 2 previous owners. She was originally purchased for breeding, but after awhile she apparently was sick of it all and began attacking the males. The second owner had her for 8 years and it was obvious she was well loved. He had to give her up due to a new job that involves constant travel. Ziggy is not a talker but vocalizes a lot and imitates sounds like the microwave, ambulances on TV, sneezing, etc. She wolf whistles when someone passes through the room. I've only had her 3 days and she asks to come onto my shoulder. She loves when I take her for a tour of the house and tell her what everything is. She totally ignores the presence of our dog (will even let the dog sit on my lap while she is on my shoulder) but abhors the cat and screams if he comes in sight. (I do keep him away from her). She finds my grandson very interesting and likes when he plays his iPod music and dances for her. Eventually she starts dancing too. She likes to accept snacks from my granddaughter, and is calm around my daughter and son-in-law. This is long, but she is so interesting. I think I got lucky and have a very secure calm bird. Looking foward to learning a lot from all of you!
