Does your dog love your birds food?
Azzie replied to Brandon97's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Yep my 10 month old puppy hangs around Cleo's cage and sucks up the crumbs and pieces of food she flings around. Puppy also loves the lorikeet nectar mix and continuously tries (and sometimes succeeds) to steal the bag and eats the powder. -
Cleo loves raw steak but I have recently been advised not to feed her that, a it's too much protein. She does enjoy a small amount of tuna, and loves cooked chicken. I've seen pics of birds munching on slices of pizza.

"180 gallon fish aquarium with African Cichlids and four parakeets" This part concerns me a little bit. I'm sure the parakeets would be much happier in a cage instead of an aquarium. Seriously though, welcome aboard. I think you will make a great mummy. The mere fact that you are concerned that you won't and the reading you've been doing tell me you'll be fine.

This thread cracks me up. Each time I look at it again, someone else has added another crazy comment. I will 'fess up though. I have tasted my puppy's kibbles. I had to see if they tasted as good as she made out, but I have to disagree. Today I might try some of Cleo's pellets and see what the deal is with the green rods she favours.

Dr Pepperberg's work is so well publicized, that if she was guilty of any form of animal cruelty or neglect, her research would have been shut down a long time ago. Jamal, if you feel the need to get on your soapbox and cause a stir, how about you contact some of the manufacturers of drugs and chemicals, since they DO test these things on animals. And I've been wondering, what's the deal with the wanna be gangster talk? Is that the new cool?

Sameera I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a member of your family like that is so painful. As suggested, allow yourself to grieve, you have lost a lot with the passing of Zahzu. She wasn't merely a bird, she was a friend and a member of your family. As for the toys and thing, if you don't know what to do don't do anything. Leave them for now, I am sure you will know the right thing to do at the right time. I hope you will find comfort in our words here, and my thoughts are with you. *hugs*

Are you guys making these things up... national cherry cheesecake day... national pineapple upside down cake?

Lol @ George! I wonder if the yellow ones taste or smell different, or whether it really is a preference for colour!

My friend Megan has a sick little lovebird, Millie. Millie has been "off colour" since she was very young, and got progressively worse. She wasn't perching and losing weight in spite of an increased appetite. Millie hung on though, and was taken to various vets. None of them were able to help her, and prescribed various antibiotics and antifungals, with little effect. Yesterday Megan took Millie to the university hospital, and she was diagnosed with avian gastric yeast. In itself this is relatively simple to treat with one specific kind of antifungal, but because Millie is so run down they think she has a secondary bacterial crop infection also. Millie was started on the right medication, but has deteriorated rapidly overnight. She is now in an incubator, with oxygen as she is struggling to breathe. It is unlikely she will make it through the night. Please people, spare a thought and a prayer for little Milie <3 <br><br>Post edited by: Azzie, at: 2009/04/23 09:05

Cleo eats the Kaytee's Rainbow Mix, parakeet size. Those pellets have 3 colours, and 2 different shapes, little flower shaped ones in red, yellow and green, and large green rods. Silly Cleo first eats all the long green ones, then the red flower shaped ones.

Please check the following link regarding greys and calcium. It's something I read into extensively before getting Cleo. http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww26evij.htm http://www.itsagreysworld.com/articles/misconcept.htm

Just found out Cleo loves meat too. I was making a stir fry and had strips of beef on a plate. Madam decided to help herself and wolfed down a few pieces of raw meat. She also loves cooked chicken. I asked her if she felt guilty about eating a distant cousin, but she did not seem bothered at all...

Cleo loves raw corn on the cob, apples (peeled and cut into bite sized chunks please), boiled carrot (skin off thank you very much), grapes, potato and any sort of cracker. Broccoli sends her running to the other side of her cage, and any kind of oatmeal just gets flung around for fun.

Is there like a breeders forum or register you can forward this incident to? Just to alert other people to stay away from this person.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGQ0MBhZjTQ If this doesn't make you cry, then I don't know what will. This 2nd link is a more in depth look, in case you were interested. Enjoy!<br><br>Post edited by: Azzie, at: 2009/04/17 00:12

Jane, young Cleo does the same. She's now 14 weeks old and was hand reared. I thought she was "reliving" her baby feeding times, as she only does it when my fingers are near her beak. She'll grab a finger and put it far back into her mouth, crouch down and do a rapid jack hammer type thing with her head. Am I mistaken about this, and is she really telling me she <3 's me?

Wild parrots tend to do the same thing at dawn and dusk, where the whole flock explodes in a flurry of noise and activity. Maybe Shanti is getting in touch with his roots?

Cleo sometimes softly chatters to herself when she's asleep. One of my lorikeets also did as a young one, all night long, just little chirps and coos. He stopped that as he got older. At least you won't have to worry about this:
-
What a silly baby = ) Please give him a good scritch and a kiss from me!
-
Not sure I like how that eagle in the 3rd to last pic is eyeing up the small child! Lunch anyone? ; )
-
Thank you guys = ) It's difficult taking a pic of Cleo. She's always watching, and the moment she sees the camera she rushes over to investigate, so all I end up getting is close ups like the 2nd pic.

You know Summer, isn't there some terrible 24 hour tummy bug going round....
