HELLO EVERYONE, I HAVE A 10YR OLD CAG NAMED BOO BIRD. I DONT KNOW IF HIS WINGS OR NAILS HAVE EVER BEEN CLIPPED BUT IT REALLY HURTS WHEN HE STEPS UP ON MY HAND OR SHOULDER. I WAS THINKING OF TAKIN HIM TO THE PETSHOP AND HAVIN THE NAILS AND WINGS CLIPPED. WILL THIS BE A BAD THING TO DO?? HIS PREVIOUS OWNER JUST SAID I MIGHT WANNA HAVE HIS BEAK TRIMMED BUT I THINK THAT WOULD BE THE WRONG THING TO DO. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE NAILS AND WINGS. HE REALLY DONT TRY TO FLY AROUND THE HOUSE ALOT. JUST OFF HIS PLAYSTAND TO THE FLOOR ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE. IM KINDA NEW TO ALL THIS IVE ONLY HAD HIM 3 MONTHS AND I DONT WANNA CHANGE HIS PERSONALITY. HIS SUCH A SWEET AND LOVING BOY...

well i had boo bird for 2 months now and hes really grown very fond of me. for those of you who dont know boo bird is a 10 yr. old cag i adopted. im his third owner. the first woman had him for 9 years but got cancer and had to rehome him (sad to say she died 6 months ago). well the man i got him from had him in a hallway with about 30 other different kind of birds for a year. no human contact, tv, etc. well for all the changes hes been through he is a very good bird! he dosent talk very much his two words are good morning and boo bird. probly what his last owner said to him in passing. but he is mumbleing alot of things i cant quite understand. do greys usually mumble the word before they really say it clear? also i know he really loves me cause when i put him on my shoulder he lowers his head for scratches and he trys to vomit on me all the time(never really did it yet). this is all new. at first he wouldnt let no one near him but with lots of time and love he is really becoming such a sweet bird.

maybe the clicking noise was because he was trained by the breeder with a clicker???? just a thought i know lots of people use them for training....

i have a 10yr. old grey that ive only had a month now. when i first got him he wouldnt let me touch him either but the local bird shop here said to sit down with the bird on your lap and wrap him in a towel so only his head is showing then scratch his head. well this totally worked for me!!! only 2 times of doing it with the towel and he loved it. now all i have to do is show him the towel and he runs to me to step up cause he knows whats coming next(scratches lol) dont be scared if he jumps around at first cause he probly will. but it is much worth it in the end!! good luck and keep us posted

hello, Im having a problem with my newly adopted 10 yr. old grey boo bird. hes climbing down his cage on to the floor and biting my wood cabnets. my cage dont have a seed catcher on it so its a stright shot down. i dont want to lock him up all day but i have to keep putting him back up on the top. i looked online to maybe buy the seed catcher but i dont know if he will be able to pass that too. maybe someone out there has had this problem and can give me an idea what to do or buy. thank you for your input in advance...patty

HELLO EVERYONE, THIS IS A UPDATE TO MY OTHER FORUM I POSTED LAST WEEK ON BOO BIRD. I ADOPTED A 10 TR OLD CONGO AFRICAN GREY NAMED BOO BIRD ALMOST TWO WEEKS AGO NOW. AND I COULDNT BE HAPPIER. I SEEN ALOT OF PEOPLE HERE WHO ARE WORRIED ABOUT ADOPTING A OLDER GREY BECAUSE THEY MAY BE USED TO ANOTHER FAMILY OR THE STRESS IN MOVING THEM FROM ONE HOUSE TO ANOTHER. BUT I CAN TELL YOU FIRST HAND ITS A WONDERFUL THING TO DO! AT FIRST BOO BIRD WAS KINDA QUIET AND SHY BUT AFTER ABOUT 2 DAYS HE WAS TALKING AND TELLING ME GOOD MORNING. HES STILL THINKS HES SUPER BIRD WHEN HES IN OR ON HIS CAGE. BUT YESTERDAY I TOOK HIM TO THE COUCH ON MY LAP WITH A TOWEL UNDER HIM AND HE JUST LAYED HIS HEAD DOWN ON MY LAP AND WANTED ME TO SCRACH HIS HEAD!!! I WAS SHOCKED. TODAY I TRYED THE SAME THING AND HE JUST LOVED IT. IF I WUD STOP SCRACHING HE WUD PUT HIS BEAK ON MY HAND (NOT BITING) LIKE KEEP SCRACHING MAMA LOL. SO IF YOU THINK YOU CANT TEACH A OLD GREY NEW TRICKS YOUR 100% WRONG. IM SO GLAD I GAVE MY BABY BOO BIRD A CHANCE BECAUSE HE IS TRULY A JOY TO HAVE IN MY FAMILY AND HE WILL BE FOREVER LOVED!!!
-
thanks everyone for the warm welcome and all the info! yesterday boo bird actually sat on my lap lowered his head and wanted me to scrach his head and neck!!! i couldnt belive it. i tried it again today and he did the same thing. im soooo happy hes comin around really good for less then 2 weeks here and 10 yrs old. so all you out there who r affraid to adopt a older bird DONT BE cause just cuz there older dosent mean there heart is older. they can be just as sweet as a baby!!

hello everyone, I am new to all this, i bought a 10 year old congo grey last weekend. his names boo bird and hes so cool! he says boo bird, good morning, hello, and other mumbling that im not too sure of. The man i bought him from had him 1yr. and before him a older lady had him for 9 years. she learned that she had termenal cancer and had to rehome her baby. sad to say she died 6 months later and his new owner did not have enough time for boo bird. he was kept in a hall way with about 10 other kinds of birds that he breeds so he has not had much human contact for the last yr. hes been pretty good, coming around he steps up to my boyfriend better then to me. I think he sences that im a little affraid of the beak lol. today he bit me not too bad but it did break the skin a bit. i was feeding him a corn flake. guess it was too small cause i been feeding him things all week and hes never bit me. i know its only been a week and i have to give him more time. :cheer:

This thread discusses the Content article: Grey Making a Strange Noise well ive been reading up on greys alot latly because i got a 10 year old grey 3 days ago, wel anyways i read blogs about people saying the same thing as you. saying that there 2 year old grey is making a funny noise and dropping there wings etc. well the expert says there like a cat would be in heat.. lots of people complained that also there grey would start biting them too. so im not 100% sure but this sounds like the right age and problems your having....good luck
