Mali has had this problem with his feathers and he did have an operation to remove all of his chewed feathers and they have grown back but it took a good 6-8 weeks for them to all grow back and even then the vet didn't guarantee that the feathers would come back at all.

Mali sleeps during the day sometimes. if I've dozed off at a weekend then he will have a nap with me. He also stand on one leg and doze as well.

I saw this yesterday and i was trying soo hard not to laugh (at work)For any one who is in the UK,the program is on BBC2 on Sunday night about these parrots. Its on at 8pm. Its called Last chance to See with Stephen Fry. Mali's Mum

i've only got half a bag left for Mali and was going to try him on Harrisons or get the smaller version for him What do you think?

Mali has destroyed and chewed My clothes My Wedding Ring!!!! The leather Couch Buttons My Jeans Sky remote Mobile

I was asking my hubbie if i was getting an easter egg from him and before he had chance to reply.... Mali said "No!" thats the extend of his coversation so far he hasn't really talked much since his collar was out on.

Malis in a certain light have a purpley bluey tinge to his chets feathers and when he is wet also.

Mali came to us at 6 months and he was clipped and he hadn't been fledged. He also had no tail at all. Once we got him home after about a month he gre a flight feather and we noticed he had a couple of tail feathers coming through. The feathers were then chewed off by Mali. He then started on his neck and the top of his wings. We took him to the avian vet and she said that because he has been clipped so young it has had a effect on him as he thinks because he can fly that he feathers are useless and therefore he is chewing them off. After a few months of treatments and three different collars and one operation his flights and tail are now growing back. I am not going to clip him his wings because a) he is a bird flying is in his DNA and b) becasue of the detrimental effect it has had on his wellbeing. it breaks my heart when he is sat on top of his cage and he wants to fly to me and he can so he gets frustrated and then tries to attack his feathers but now he attacks hes collar instead I am going to harness train him so we can take him outside and take extra precautions to make sure our home is safe for him when he fully flighted and fledged

i have now been home for a while and he is out and sat on the back of our couch and he has just tucked in to his tea and he has been chatting away to himself. its the first one i have felt in our area of the country Thanks for you replies

Hubbie has been home to check on him and he is fine He was on the side of the cage wanting to get out!!! He will be getting a few extra scritches tonight if he wants them. Thanks for all your replies!!

it was 3.7 on the scale. He is in his cage becasue we are both at work today. He has all of he flight feathers and tail feathers coming through after his operation so i'm hoping he hasn't damaged any of them.

We have just had an earthquake in the north of england and i'm at work and can't get out to see Mali. I have asked my hubbie to go and check on him if he can and he said he would but i'm still worried Will he be ok? from a very worried mummy

When Mali has his bath he likes to go in the shower with me so when my hubbie was getting a shower on Sat night he was running along the back of the sofa and then he was doing his Pick me up and let me join in dance as soon as he heard the sound of running water.

Mali loves getting cuddles and scritches from me. He will just sit on my chest anf put his head down and if he doesn't get his cuddles and scritches straight away then he nudges me and lightly grabs smy fingers!!!

Mali is 1 on Tuesday i think He was weaned at the end of June last year so working back twelve weeks is the 7th April give or take a few days I have had him 5 months since he was 8 months old

Mali is back from the vets and everything went well. He is sore and grumpy from his op but he keeps blowing kisses to me. I have given him lots of head scritches and he has even let my husband give him one which is a first. He has to have some metacam for the next five days and he goes back to the vets next month. i'm just glad he is back home. Thanks for all your words.

Just thought I would give you a quick update on Mali We went to the vets this weekend and he is having an operation on Weds to remove the chewed and damaged feathers so the new ones can grow through. The Vet also said that He has grown and put on 40g in weight since Jan when she last weight him. the collar he now has on is working and needs to be on 6 months to let his feathers grow. i will update you all on weds after he has had his operation.

After much talking over our weekend away(My mum and Dad looked after him) and discussing the names suggested on here. We have decided to call him Mali He is coping with the new collar well and he can't get any of his feathers. it's funny to watch him cos he he attacks the collar and twists it around his neck. We went to the vets last week for Mollys collar to be changed cos the last one she could still pluck her feathers. They have now changed it for a better one whic so far is working cos it has a lip around the bottom. We also decided to find out what sex she is so we had her tested and the results have come back. It turns out Molly is a BOY!!! Should we change his name to something else completely different or stick with calling him Molly? He answers to Molly and he says Molly would it be too diffucult for him to relearn and answewr to his new name?

Molly chews holes in my clothes. I have found a couple in my jumper today while at work in a strange place!!!:lol:
