  1. no need for a vet appointment, after a long nights rest, woke up sunday morning and larry was normal his wing had gone back he was full of beans his usual self. i guess we have been very lucky.thanx 2 eveyone on the advice, these things cannot be take too light hearted.
  2. Thanks 2 everyone for some great advice. i have been out and not long returned. larry seems more settled and his wing is more relaxed, resting in his cage at the moment getting stuck into his fruit. if i still feel uneasy about him tomorrow than a sunday emergency vet it is. with any injury you always think the worst, i hope it is just soft tissue. i will keep posted.
  3. yes i would take my child to the doctors but unlike children birds cant tell you how much things hurt, or its harder to spot. i just wondered if birds bruise or sprain the same as we do. this is his first mishap and although i know him very well and he seems ok. would he still fly around if he were badly hurt.
  4. larry has been his usual self, getting into mischief. he has somehow dislodged a larry barrier and fallen off along with other things. next thing i saw him on the floor(it happened all so quickly) i have noticed that his wing is hurt as he is resting it not as tight in as the other. he is talking eating drinking and also can still fly although unsteadyish. i know this is causing discomfort but he seems fine.it looks red underneath in the joint area. is this something that needs sorting or will it sort itself out? the incident happend 3 hours ago.Is he talking alot because he is in pain or would he sit quiet and withdrawn. has anyone got any advice please.
  5. Hi thanks everyone. yet again some very useful information. Larry and i are still learning from each other. Its also nice to know that i'm not alone. I now return larry to his cage when i am busy and give him something to play with. i am sure with alot of patience little structure and a regular routine we will get there in the end. I do love him dearly.
  6. has anyone else got this problem. my darling larry is now very good at flying, after leaving my last post weather to clip or not,we have decided against it. now he just wont leave me alone where ever i am he flys on me, its a constant thing. he is demanding sooooo much attention.the more i give the more he wants. this is really getting me down. he has also started to bite and draw blood when i guide him away. i have tried putting him away but he just gets angry in his cage, i leave him and let him be, but he just dont learn. he is fine with other members of the family its as if he is trying to control me. has anyone please got any advice.[/b]
  7. hi everyone. when we first got larry just over a year ago we decided to have his wings cliped before bringing him back to his new home. He has now since had a mass moult and has new wings. The trouble is he is now becoming very confident gaining height and staring to fly from one room to another,he has had a few clumsy moments but on many times he is spot on. I would like to have him cliped as doors are not always left open and he is a nightmare if he is out and cant see anyone. But now he knows how, if i do go ahead would he try to fly thinking he can. and hurt himself. Whats the best for him? :cheer: oh he has just recently said his proper clear first word(alright) were so happy. regards to all from lola
  8. thanks ever so much carolyn. going back to my first post about the blood feather i found this morning, this evening i have noticed splatters of blood (not mass amounts) up the side of the wall where he sits with us in the evening. must 0f been from last night. i am very baffled as i didnt notice anything strange, and i cant see any damage to him. larry has been fine allday. i still cant help but worry. after losing charlie i guess i'm over protective.what with him still being a baby. they say the first molt is the big one what sort of signs shall i look out for. kind regards from lola
  9. WOW everone is so friendly and helpful. thanks all for the advice. i just hope you dont think i signed up as i had a problem. i have looked at the site many times and found it to be very intresting. i will upload photos very soon. my mum has a lovely african grey called stumpy he is disabled due to a accident when he was a baby. deformed leg but he manages well.
  10. hi people. i'm lola. i have looked at this site many many times and have NOW BECOME PART OF IT.BOY IT FEELS GOOD. i have a african grey called larry he is just over a year old and very demanding. our fault really as we have all spoilt him rotten.i guess we have tried to replace our old boy charlie who now lives in birdie heaven. i do have a little concern though this morning i found a big feather at the bottom of the cage and at the end it has blood. there is no bald patches on larry and i have found the odd feather b4 but nothing that looks like this. is it normal or could he be a plucker.
