  1. Too bad my GCC doesn't want to fly. I can only do short recall with him. I'll see if I can attach a pic of the reel from iPad.
  2. Dont waste your money on that flightline. It is useless and the flying distance is limited. I am using braided fishing line attached to a kite reel like what Shanlung was using.
  3. After weeks of training, Kilaya has gained enough confidence to fly at a longer distance. He has broken last year record of 30ft. This morning he did 45ft.
  4. You can use any type of whistle.
  5. How nice you have someone to take care of yours. Kilaya at waterfall today.
  6. It's my wish too. How nice if we had someone who could take care of our birds when we were on vacation. I could walk over to feed your birdies and vice versa.
  7. Silent recall. I showed my arm without whistling or calling. And Kilaya flew to me.
  8. Sure. Meet you at the airport. Dinner.
  9. Step up and step down are not a problem. I decided to concentrate more on outdoor recall. He respond better outside.
  10. In the begining of indoor recall training, he responded very well. He would fly to me during non training session when called. But now he doesn't do that any more. Whereas my gcc flies to any of my family members when he is called regardless he was busy or free. No wonder conures are best candidates to free fly. Now I am going back to the basic training with Kilaya using target and clicker training, starting from scratch. Maybe he needs more basic training.
  11. I thought I could do better with Kilaya where I failed to do with Cocoa. All I am interested in is to be able to recall Kilaya at any time anywhere. He responded well during the early stages. He was full of enthusiasm in indoor and outdoor recalls. I kept the training short and did it only once a day or max 2X. Now I can hardly get him fly to me indoor. And he no longer interested in recall training at the playground. The only place he responds well to recall is at the hiking place. I seek advice from 2 experienced trainer friends. Both told me greys in general are not easy to train. They tend to lose interest very fast. This is very frustrating. On the other hand, my GCC can be recalled from anywhere at any time in the house without training.
  12. Greys are amazing. I prefer a mature grey too after having Cocoa for 5 over years. I miss those years. kilaya usually stayed in the cage when I went out to feed the birdies in the aviary. My wife is afraid to handle Kilaya. That's why I took him along to the aviary and also I want him to socialize with other birds. He is aggressive towards smaller birds. Cocoa could tolerate smaller birds.
  13. It wasn't that easy to capture his photos. He moves a lot. Have to be quick.
  14. Nov 18. Kilaya is 5 months old today.
  15. Kilaya seldom bites my wife now. He only bites once in awhile. My wife doesn't look so upset now as she has accepted the fact that Kilaya is not Cocoa. It looks likely Kilaya is going to stay with us.
  16. The biting still continues. He only picks on my wife. Keeping a distance is the only way to avoid painful bites. If I happen to give up Kilaya, I will only stick with my small parrots, cockatiels and green cheek conures. They are much easier to take care. No worry about them destroying the house. This is a recall by using a whistle. Should he gets out one day, he would be able to track me by listening to the whistle.
